Base to Daniels: 1. Pain Origin Cutaneous Pain Somatic Pain Affected Parts: Cutaneous nerve endings Non-localized and originates in support structure such as tendons, ligaments and nerves Pain felt in other part of body Damage portions of peripheral/ CNS Non Painful stimulus is felt painful spite of tissue appearing normal Abnormal sensation such as burning / tingling Trigger point when stimulated, causes local twitching or jump response Sudden onset and relatively short in duration, mild to severe Longterm, persistent nearly constant or recurrent pain that produces negative changes. Result in progressive tissue injury Does not have any progressive tissue injury

Referred Pain (Synalgia) Neuropathic Pain - Allodynia Paresthesia

Based to Koziers: 1. Location Based on where it is on the body Referred Pain Visceral Pain

- May be felted to other parts of the body - Pain arising from hollow organs or viscera.

2. Intensity Mild Moderate Severe 3. Duration Acute Pain Chronic Pain ( Malignant & Non Malignant)

1-3 scale 4-6 scale 7-10 scale Sudden or slow onset , regardless of intensity Prolonged, usually recurring and persisting

4. Etiology Physiological Pain

Somatic Pain Visceral Pain

Experienced whrn an intact, properly functioning nervous system sends signals that tissues are damaged, requiring attention and proper care. Originates in skin, muscles, bones, or connective tissue

Neuropathic Pain -Peripheral Neuropathic Pain Central Neuropathic Pain Sympathetically maintained pain

Experienced by people who have damaged or malfunctioning nerves Follows damage and/or sensitization of peripheral nerves Results from malfunctioning nerves in CNS Occurs occasionally when abnormal connections between pain fibers and the sympathetic nervous system perpetuate problems with both the pain and sympathetically controlled functions.
