Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. Pablo Picasso

Welcome to Visual Arts Year 2 at Channing Hall! I am looking forward to a wonderful year as we learn and explore together. (Students, please keep this document in your binder.) Our classroom procedures and expectations are as follows: Classroom Rules and Expectations: (These are behaviors that we expect in ourselves and others at all times.)

International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO): The goal of IB is to develop internationally minded individuals who strive to create a better, more peaceful world. Accordingly, we will be incorporating the IB Learner profiles in our daily activities as we strive to become learners that are: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. Students will experience and explore each of the five areas of interaction which include: approaches to learning, community and service, human ingenuity, environment, and health and social education. Supplies: most supplies will be provided in the art room, there may be an occasional item that is required from home (ie. white t-shirt, Late/Make-Up Work: In the Channing Hall MYP, we want every student to SUCCEED! In order to master the skills required for each class, it is critical that students complete assignments at an acceptable quality. Missing or unacceptable assignments will be handled through a demerit system. When students fail to complete an important assignment at an acceptable level, another opportunity will be given to complete it. Students will be given a demerit slip with instructions when this may be completed. If this assignment isnt completed at an acceptable quality within one week, or if a student receives several demerits from multiple teachers, an ISS day may be given (in order to complete the work). Assignments given prior to an absence will be due on the first day the student returns to school if the assignment was due during the absence. It is the students responsibility to gather missed assignments and see each teacher regarding details. Activities that are hands-on and done in groups may require an alternative assignment. Missed assignments for excused absences will be handled according to the CH Handbook. *All assignments and information may be found on my website, which is linked from My Class Corner on the Channing Hall website http://ainaartists.blogspot.com/. I have a separate tab for each grade with accompanying assignments, policies, and disclosure documents. Students and parents are urged to check these websites on a weekly basis. This will be my primary method of communication. *Please contact me at kaina@channinghall.org with any comments, questions or concerns. Grading will be based on the following Developmental Workbooks: DW will be graded at least twice during the semester for grading and I will indicate what criteria it will be assessed by. I will be looking to see that you have appropriately used and managed your DW as it will contribute to developing highquality and successful products in the Arts. The organization of your ideas and resources, the presentation of your work and your reflections and evaluations are crucial aspects of your development as an artist. End of Unit Projects: Students will have at least one project due for each unit that assesses the skills/processes/themes and ideas that we have studied throughout the unit. These projects must be well done and demonstrate a professional quality. Home Assignments and in-class activities: Students will have homework in art it is not every night and it is not usually lengthy but it is required and an essential part of your learning throughout each unit.
