Infrared Security Cameras - How They Work and Why They Are a Good Choice for Businesses Most

business owners would agree that having security cameras around their facility is a good idea. Security cameras can help keep your business and your employees safe by acting as a deterrent against crime and surveillance video can help police apprehend criminals if a crime does occur. The benefit of infrared security cameras is that they will allow you to monitor what's going on in the dark. Whether your business is open 24 hours per day or if it's locked up tight for the night, being able to see what's going on when the lights are out is very important. How Infrared Security Cameras Work Infrared cameras are able to detect light that is not visible to humans. They do this by detecting infrared radiation or photons coming from objects that are giving off heat. Of course human beings and animals are giving off heat but even inanimate objects give off residual heat after being warmed by the sun during the day. Infrared cameras can capture these photons that are invisible to us and convert them into electrons and the electrons are then converted into images that we can see on a monitor. This gives you the ability to monitor what's going on in low light conditions or even in complete darkness. Why Infrared Security Cameras Are a Good Choice for Your Business A regular security camera relies on natural daylight or artificial light of some kind and without a light source, the camera will not be able to pick up any images. An infrared security camera allows you to see in the dark which is very important because it eliminates an advantage that a criminal would have if they attempted to break into your business under the cover of darkness. Although infrared security cameras are designed to allow you to see in the dark, most good infrared cameras will also work just as well in well lit conditions. Many of today's infrared security cameras will operate just like a regular security camera, and when there is not enough ambient light they will switch to special sensors that are designed to pick up infrared radiation. Another benefit of infrared cameras is that they can also operate well in adverse weather conditions. Things like fog or heavy rain that may obscure light and make things difficult to see with a regular camera, will not obscure the image is of an infrared camera. The infrared security camera will be able to pick up on heat signatures of the objects in the environment, effectively seeing right through the fog or the rain.
