CEE460 Steel Structures I Course Overview Vision Develop excellent engineers who understand the fundamental behavior of steel

l members, connections and structural systems and can apply this understanding to analysis, design and investigation. This course will enable students to: 1. Understand and articulate the principles and procedures for designing structural steel buildings 2. Comprehend and apply the theoretical and experimental background related to behavior of structural steel members and connections 3. Design steel members and connections using standardized building codes and specifications Outline This course will cover the following major topics: 1. Background on structural steel & introduction to design philosophies 2. Behavior & design of tension members 3. Behavior & design of compression members (columns) 4. Behavior & design of flexural members (beams) 5. Introduction to members with axial & flexural loads (beam-columns) 6. Introduction to structural steel connections 7. Behavior & design of simple (tension) bolted & welded connections
