PUMBA
Experience 1 I had my GD/PI at PUMBA GD topics- Mergers and acquisitions, view the situation as a manager? Does society offer greater opportunities to both genders today? We chose the 1st option....we had a discussion for a total of 1518 minutes with summary included and conclusion. A thorough discussion on Arcelor- Mittal, little bit on TATA- Corus deal etc. No fish market scenario PII was the first one to go in my group 1) Tell us about yourself ? 2) Why an MBA? 3) Long term goals They also asked me why not take a work experience and then go for an mba. And asked my Cet marks, then they asked me some current affairs based questionssomeone told me that they also look for your body language at PUMBA , so its better to be be prepared in all the above aspects All the best friends! Experience 2 Hi friends I had my GD/PI at PUMBA we had to fill up a form which had questions like strength weaknesses, why mba etc academic details et al.please remember what u had filled in there..one of my friends apparently filled a different set of strengths and weaknesses and told them something differentshe was grilled like anything on that GD topics 1) Common sense is necessary rather than management to succeed in Business. 2) Hindi Should be used as language for national Integration. We were around 5 people we had chosen the second topic At least four of us spoke and got equal chance to speakexcept one he was asked to summarize the topic. It was a calm GDwith no debate like scenario then came the PI 2 male panelists tell me about your self. Why MBA. Academic, why such low scores. Your job descriptionIt was an ok experience, cant say a very great one. Experience 3 Hello, Had been to PUMBA for my GD/PI, GD 2 topics 1) does education in India need any change? 2) Manager or leader: Who would u prefer? Unanimous choice--> topic 1---> everyone spoke...except for one or two, who didnt make an attempt to speak, others I found very assertive and competitive in their speech. I gave around 5 to 6 points with examples, should work for me I suppose, in the end someone was told to summarize and that is it! PI2 Panel members

Introduce your self in one sentence why do you think everyone wants to do an MBA today? Who ideally deserves to be the next President will you want the next president to be an MBA? I think they wanted to see why I want to do an MBA and some current affairs, they also asked something about the Nandigram issuewhich I dont remember muchbut I would suggest people to be good with current affairs.and prepare for probable questions and go. Experience 4 Hi all, I had my GD/PI today at PUMBA Topics were : 1) Should Indian Troops be Withdrawn from Kashmir 2) Land ,Water and Air Pollution - Solution for India. We obviously selected the second topic, gave in a lot of points which had been in my mind since school days, sugar coated it with current affairs, got the issue of global warming in between, corporate social responsibility, etc. All in all a decent GD. PI was good too was asked questions form the bio data I filled.ready made answers, was let godidnt realize when it started and how it ended! NEVERMIND, all the best to you. Experience 5 Hi friends I had my GD/PI today at PUMBA The whole process didn't take more than an hour The topics for GD were abstract 1>In India we consider whole less than parts, does that mean we lack Team spirit? 2>Integrity without knowledge is worthless while knowledge without integrity is dangerous Majority of us voted for the first the GD was not very constructed but I did manage to give some valuable points but ,the issue was being diverted but still we managed to get through the GD. PI was not strenuous or something, it was more like a normal question answer session with questions form the biodata we filled All the Best to all my friends. Experience 6 Hello people! I had my GD at PUMBA.. GD went fine... topics were 1) is coalition in politics here to stay 2) we dont have power, but we have money, with money we can get power... only 5 people were present while I was pondering over which topic to chose...I thought 2nd one will b a better choice, majority voted for first, so I had to concedeI told the following points Coalition-need of the hour...Reasons for coalition coming up of many regional parties, no single majority coalition may or may not be successful, gave examples etc. conclusion yes coalition politics is here to stay here is my pi experience the two panelists were elderly and pretty sweet with me.. one asked me about my family, my background, I went on with the prepared version, then I was asked how is the city of Pune, hows it different from (I am OMS candidate) Then there came a huge number of questions from my educational background when I said I was the in my final year I was told why not take a work ex..I gave my reasons they

looked convinced, I got a bit stuck on my academic related questions but otherwise was able to answer. So basically it was OKAYISH PI Experience 7 Had my GDPI yesterday.. Heres the detailed report.. Batch: - 210 Centre: - PUMBA Time: - 4pm - 4.45pm As I entered the centre, the lady at enquiry desk at the entrance guided me into a room.. After sometime, a person entered the room & called out names & roll no.. & Arranged us in an order that was to be followed throughout the entire GDPI procedure.. We were then send into another room where we were made to sit batch wise & were made to sign on an attendance sheet.. Later we were handed 3 forms that were to be filled. 1) Undertaking form (As given in annexure 4 in the brochure) 2) Form to be filled for work-ex. They specifically mentioned that work-ex after graduation & they said they preferred work-ex more than 1year. Puys please do enquire abt the work-ex criteria & the requirements before u fill up the form. 3) Student profile form - to fill up academic details & certain question.. Do go through the form that Funky_iflex has uploaded. Its the same form.. If you cant complete filling up the form before u go for GD.dont fret. U do get some time before u go for PI after Ur GD to complete the form. Then we were taken to the GD room: Panel of 3 people...We were again asked to sign on another attendence sheet.. Just 7 people were present out of 14 people from the batch Then came the instructions: 1) You will be given 2 topics to choose from.. Choice of topic by majority rule.. 2) Time for Gd - 20mins.. A bell will ring to remind u that final 5 mins are left.. 3) After the choice of topic u will be given 2 mins to think & jot down ur points.. Puys please carry a sheet of blank paper with u.. They didnt provide us with the paper & some people ended up jotting points on the back of their admit card.. The panel noticed this & also made remarks on it.. Topics for GD: - Is dependence on computers good? OR Should public sector be privatized? As majority goes. The 1st topic was selected. It was almost a one sided GD that lasted for 17 mins Later we were asked to wait until called for PI.. At the PI, was a panel of 2 people.. One them was a professor from PUMBA & the other person was a 2nd year student from PUMBA (Saw his ID card hanging in his pocket..) They started of with the typical question Describe yourself?

Later probed about my family background & asked about why I considered the qualities I mentioned as my weakness Finally they asked about the logic that I had put into my answer about what should India do to become a Global power.. Thats it puys.. The PI was short & sweet.. They work absolutely in time. The GDPI of the entire batch was completed in the stipulated time period. everyone from the batch was out by 4.45pm.. Just stay calm & cool..It will be smooth sailing thru the entire process Experience 8 I finished my GD/PI at PUMBA, (phew....

)..all in all an enriching experience.

GD topics- Mergers and acquistions, view the situation as a manager Does society offer greater opputunities to both genders today...discuss Unanimous decsion to choose the 1st option....decent discussion for 12 minutes, last 3 minutes for summary and conclusion. Loads of events came out...Arcelor Mittal, Tata Corus, MTR etc. Panelists looked very happy, but did give us feedback on how better we cud ave done it. All in all....a gud GD session. PII was the 5th person. P1- A young female teacher (Marketing Faculty at PUMBA) p2- A middle aged faculty (Finance faculty at PUMBA n SIBM) Both very articulate and observing by nature...grilled me on a range of questions for 20 minutes. 1) Tell us about urself in 20 seconds 2) Why an MBA when u r working and earning good 3) What is ur vision for urself 2 yrs, 5 yrs and 10 yrs frm now 4) What is the HR strategy that is missing in India 5) 4 GK qs on HR 6) Which institues r u applying to (JB and PUMBA) 7) Stress round- a mini case study My role model in life and why such a choice Finally....it was a pleasure meeting you....hope to see u at PUMBA (an encouraging reply from the marketing lady). My advice: PUMBA has some very good faculty members as panelists and evaluators...be well prepared. These guys observe the body language a lot. So be cool and have ur own logic defined before speaking out.

had my gdpi at last. welingker - where it was at. time - supposed to be from 8 to 8.45 hrs....but started as late as almost 8.35. and i had reached early to top it. ok, really early. by the time we were taken inside to fill up the option form, i was getting a bit impatient. it being my first ever gdpi. filled the form, were sent to another room, where we were again made to wait for abt 20 minutes at least. Then a welingker student gave a presentation about their college. afterwards, a girl came and gave us our numbers for the gd. finally, we were sent one floor up (after they handed a bag with some snacks i guess and i caught a glimpse of frooty). again told to sit on soem chairs and wait for about 5 minutes. then the 5 of us in my batch were asked to enter the room for our gd. three gentleman, one of whom gave us some instructions.."You have come here for marks right? for that you have to speak...bla bla..don't include us in the gd." K, then, we were asked to select topics: Topic 1: "Vegetarianism is good for the society and environment." Topic 2: "Being street smart is better than being intelligent." All the other four except for me opted for the first topic. I looked at the sir there and said no problem. gd started after 2 minutes. this other guy began, but soon we all took it up. just had 10 minutes anyway. made 2-3 points. the gd was not bad, infact decent for a first timer like me. the pi...well what can i say? LOL. had some good moments, some bad. two people, an elderly gent and a lady in about her 30's interviewed me. grilled a lot on why mba after journo. stuck to my point, and i honestly don't know what they made of it. some gk questions, name few women PM's and the vice pres of india. knew these. the vice pres of america didn't know. then the gentleman asked some more gk questions, the answer to which I knew, but stupid stupid me answered wrongly and dumbly and then realized my mistake but it was too late. I know, there's no excuse for this. what the heck was I thinking? had a damn early morning then, this gentleman asked me about pirates of teh caribbean, who's the hero? told him. he turned to the lady and said, see, her gk is so good. What! I knew he was pulling my leg, and I got a bit annoyed, even though I usually try to look at the humour in such situations. Then asked the going price for gold per 10 grams, didn;t know. dollar rate. my answer was a bit off. asked me how much water is there in this bisleri bottle, I took a shot, said about 1/2 a liter. he said, good, good. asked me soemthing (don't remember) to which I said, yes, my first interview. then the lady said, but ur an ICSE student (don;t know what she meant with the 'but') she looked at my strengths and weaknesses, chuckled at the weaknesses I'd written. Then she asked, you like reading? I said Yes. name a book written by the PM. Ok, even the pres. I just couldn't remember. She said no problem. And I was done. Thanked them, and on my way out, they told me something about speaking to the other girl behind me, exactly what, I don't remember now, didn't think it imp then and didn't give it much importance. Just gave a nod and left. Whew! what's done is done, all in all a learning experience. It being my first time, I took it that way. oh and I forgot my goody bag there.
