FOOLPROOF INSTALLATION The DIGINET System is as simple to install as a non-monitored single point system, just install the emergency lights as per plans and by using a CMS type cabling connection method, the system should not be compromised by poor cable connection. The plug & play type cabling will connect to a small wall mounted LCD display computer, then by simply commissioning each product into the computer the system is ready to go. DIGINET is a simple, intelligent emergency lighting management system designed by industry experts to effectively manage and monitor the status of emergency lighting within a network. DIGINET utilises a DALI international open protocol to communicate between luminaires and the computer software. Types of applications for a DIGINET system Commercial & industrial installations Low rise office or apartment buildings Multiple building campuses Hospitals Correctional facilities Educational facilities Health centres and aged care facilities Centralised emergency light management SELF MONITORING DIGINET is self monitoring, it can diagnose system and product faults in readiness for maintenance access at either the 6 monthly test or anytime in between. INDEPENDENT OR COMPLETE-YOUR CHOICE You can choose whether to cable for an independent DIGINET Emergency Lighting Management system or a Complete DALI Lighting Management system, the cabling and connection remains the same simple method for both systems therefore both systems can connect to the same wiring loop. This will reduce Labor, Cost and confusion. EASY SYSTEM CONTROLS The DIGINET system features a unique LCD graphical user interface type computer to control and monitor. Pierlite Emergency Lighting

Pierlite emergency luminaires have captured the essence of design presence and continuity, satisfying the designers needs and the installers installation criteria. Meeting with compliance to IEC60598-2-22 enables the design of emergency lighting units to be more flexible. EMC Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) under the opus of AS/NZS4051:1998 deals with devices such as lighting/emergency lighting products that may have the potential to cause interference to radio communication systems. This may be mains disturbance (noise down the line), radiation (giving out interfering frequencies from components) or deceptability (interference of frequency due to external noise). Under AS/NZS4051:1998 lighting/emergency lighting products must comply with disturbance levels between 9 KHz and 30 MHz. All Pierlite lighting/emergency lighting products comply with the above standard. EMERGENCY EVACUATION LIGHTING FOR BUILDINGS - AS/NZS2293.1 Spacing of emegency luminaires in Australia Spacing of emergency luminaires are based on illuminance calculations where the light reaches the floor directly from the emergency light source. Minimum illuminance level for emergency lighting is 0.2 lux. Please use classification tables provided with each product. ie: DB136M Emergency Classification C0 - D40 C90 - C40 C180 - n/a Emergency Classification C0 - D40 C90 - C40 C180 - n/a LC(NZ) - Classification of the above luminaire modified by the (UF) factor of the area to be illuminated. UF - Determines the proportion of light output from a lamp that falls on a particular area for emergency lighting.
Spacing of emegency luminaires in New Zealand Spacing of emergency luminaires is based on light that reaches the floor by reflection from the surfaces of the room, ie: ceiling and walls. Therefore you are required to obtain the utilisation factor of the required luminaire and then calculate the amount of emergency luminaires needed. Minimum illuminance level for emergency lighting is 1 lux. Formula for spacing of emergency luminaires in New Zealand is: LC(NZ) = LC(AUST) 6 - (6.6 x UF) LC(AUST) - Classification of emergency luminaire to Australian standard. ie: DB136M

Refer to Pages 422 and 425 of the Technical Section for luminaire spacing tables. Note: If the Utilisation Factor for the room is greater than 0.75, the New Zealand formula does not apply. Apply the Australian table classifications only. If the Utilisation Factor for the room is less than 0.15, the value of 0.15 shall apply and be used in the New Zealand formula.

New Standard Requirements

The Emergency Lighting Working Group, a working group of Lighting Council Australia, provides the following advice regarding changes to emergency lighting standards in Australia. The following new emergency lighting standards are now published: AS2293.1:2005 System design, installation and operation AS2293.3: 2005 Emergency escape luminaires and exit signs These standards replaced: AS/NZS2293.1:1998 and AS/NZS2293.3:1995 Significant changes from AS/NZS2293.1:1998 include: replacement of word exit with pictogram inclusion of detailed restrictions on use of arrows revision of maximum viewing distances for exit signs adoption of terminology from IEC60598.2.22 unlike the 1998 version, this standard is not a joint Australian/New Zealand document; there is no content specific to New Zealand The principal reason for the AS/ NZS2293.3:1995 edition of the standard is to specify requirements for exit signs employing internationally accepted pictograms, instead of the previously used word Exit. Terminology used to describe the subject matter has been modified in both standards to be compatible with that used in IEC60598.2.22 Luminaires Part 2.22 Particular requirements luminaires for emergency lighting. The new terminology recognises that the term emergency lighting includes four categories of lighting, each incorporating an alternative energy supply, as follows: emergency escape lighting illuminated emergency exit signs high risk task area lighting standby lighting However as reflected in the new series title, only two of these four categories are addressed in the AS2293 standards namely emergency escape lighting and illuminated emergency exit signs. Pictograms The new standards allow only the following pictograms from the international standard document ISO3864-1: Element Height (mm) Maximum Viewing Distance (m) 100 <150 16 150 <200 24 200 <250 32 250 -- 40 The maximum viewing distance must be marked on the face of each diffuser located on the background, either within one of the elements or on additional background. Australian Building Code Position The Australian Building Codes Board recognised the new emergency lighting standards as at 1st May 2006. The new standards may be utilised on a project by project basis, if approved for the project by the applicable local authority.

Recommended Locations
Exit Doors Locate emergency exit luminaire at each exit door. Exit signs shall be mounted at between 2m and 2.7m above floor level, or immediately above the door if higher than 2.7m Ensure the exit does not exceed maximum viewing distances recommended. Check emergency escape route is clear of obstacles and that the minimum illuminance level of 0.2 lux is achieved. Intersecting Corridors An emergency luminaire is to be installed within 2 meters of the intersecting corridors. Change in Direction An emergency luminaire is to be installed within 2 meters of an intersection at the change of direction except when the change of direction does not have interference of the wall of the corridor and that the C0/C90 spacing is not exceeded. Change in Floor Level An emergency luminaire is to be installed at each change of floor level, on the low side. Stairways Provide emergency luminaires to ensure that each flight of stairs including the intermediate landing receives direct light. A minimum of 1 lux is required. Note: If the intermediate landing in an enclosed stairwell is no longer than 2m in length that intermediate landing need not receive direct lighting. Escalators Emergency lighting is required for escalators to enable users to get off them safely. Toilets (Not referred to in standard but highly recommended) Toilets incorporating 2 or more cubicles or exceeding an area of 8m2 require emergency lighting. Emergency lighting is also to be incorporated into handicapped toilet facilities. Switch Rooms Place emergency lighting in control, plant or switch rooms that have the provision to provide normal and emergency lighting to the premises. Covered Car Parks Are treated as part of the normal emergency lighting design and full consideration of exit and emergency lighting is taken into account.
NOTE: This example emergency lighting layout has been created in the intended spirit of AS2293 and should be used as a guide only.

Recommended Installation /Maintenance Guidelines The installer is responsible for all relevant safety and building code standards. Do Not Megga After Installation It is recommended to disconnect live and neutral wires from the unit before an insulation resistance check. Converting An Existing Luminaire Installing a Power Pack will usually void the manufacturers warranty and EMC compliance. It is the installers responsibility to comply with relevant wiring, EMC and emergency lighting requirements in accordance with the relevant sections of AS2293 which may include the necessity to have the luminaire tested and certified both thermally and photometrically. Power Packs normally installed inside the luminaire may require the repositioning of components in the luminaire, ie. starter, ballast, capacitor. Any of the components being utilised that now show signs of end of life should be replaced at the time of converting the power pack. It is also advised that the internal wiring be replaced using the recommended high temperature cable (V90) minimum. Use Of Remote Enclosures Thermal conditions and/or lack of space in the luminaire may result in remote mounting of the power pack in an appropriate remote enclosure. Ensure the following is taken into account:Ensure test switch is accessible during re-lamping. It may be mounted within the luminaire or remote enclosure. LED is to be visible during normal operation irrespective of mounting within the luminaire or remote enclosure. Connecting cables to the enclosure are not to exceed 1 metre. Resistance of the battery wires are not to exceed 0.5ohms. Ensure battery leads are kept as short as possible. Testing The Conversion Of the Luminaire Confirm its electrical safety and its operation. Confirm the temperature of main components utilised in the luminaire comply with recommended requirements. The luminaire should be mounted as intended. The ambient temperature is to be as expected for the luminaires intended environment. Apply maximum voltage prescribed for a period of 24 hours, then switch off the luminaire and ensure that it provides appropriate emergency duration in accordance with relevant standards. Examine temperature of relevant components. If components comply with the prescribed temperature, then the balance of the luminaire may be converted the same way. Note BILW Power Packs incorporate a thermistor to protect componentry from overheating in excessive temperatures. Once tripped it may only be reset by switching off the mains. Once stable conditions are achieved, reconnect mains. Pierlite emergency luminaires have Ta Ratings from Ta30 to Ta40. When installing a BILW power pad feed the supply cable through the appropriate cable entry. Avoid obstruction to mounting holes, other lighting componentry and covers. It is recommended that a full duration test is carried out prior to commissioning. Upon appropriate connection, initially charge the luminaire for a minimum of 24 hours. Upon charging, the red LED will light indicating that mains is present and batteries are charging. After 24 hours disconnect the supply and check for the rated duration period. Pressing the test button carries out a quick confidence test. Routine tests should be carried out in accordance with the relevant Standards, with all results and status recorded in a log book. Batteries are to be replaced with the same Pierlite battery pack. The model number is stamped on the battery pack. When disposing of batteries do not pierce, incinerate or short circuit. Batteries should be disposed of in accordance with recognised disposal methods. Powerpacks and inverters are designed to operate on 230V AC 50/60Hz

The wiring diagrams are given as a guide to installation with electronic ballasts. Due to the wide variety of electronic ballast units and connection styles available, it is advisable that the luminaire be fully tested to prove its correct functionality.

GUIDE TO SAFE HANDLING OF LIGHTING PRODUCTS CONTAINING BATTERY SYSTEMS.

Introduction:
Battery systems are an essential component in a number of lighting products, especially emergency lighting systems, which require an alternative energy source when the traditional mains supply source fails. Handling and maintenance procedures for lighting battery circuits is no different to handling conventional battery components ie: scheduled maintenance is an essential process in maintaining the components service life and disposal of the components at the end of the service should be conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. The following information serves as a guide to safe handling and maintenance of Pierlite Lighting products containing battery components. Battery performance should be checked on a regular schedule and components replaced when the performance falls below the manufacturers specification. Failed components should be disposed of in accordance with local waste management requirements. In the instance of a catastrophic failure resulting in a ruptured battery casing, the component should be handled with extreme care, avoiding contact with the installers skin, eye or inhalation. Suitable protective clothing is recommended for such maintenance procedures. The components and contaminated protective clothing should then be disposed of in accordance with your local waste management requirements. If skin or clothing comes in contact with fluid from a Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) or Nickel Metal (NiMH) battery, thoroughly wash the area immediately with clean water and seek medical care where needed.
