Call for Co-editor of Text on Feminists Working across False Boundaries In 1994, bell hooks wrote of the need

for feminists to [create] work that acts as a catalyst for social change across false boundaries (72). One such false boundary that continues to exist is that between academic and non-academic feminists. Evidence of this boundary can be found in relatively older statements from Gloria Steinem as well as in more recent conversations surrounding The Future of Online Feminism, a presentation delivered by Courtney Martin and Vanessa Valenti. As feminists working within the university, we have noticed this boundary in our everyday lives. Both of us have taken part in many protests, meetings, and conferences focused on feminist issues; however, in these experiences, we find we are generally meeting, protesting, and discussing with other academic feminists. Nevertheless, in the current political climate, we feel it is absolutely necessary for us to find ways to be feminists outside of the university, and for non-academic feminists to find ways to be feminists within university walls. This edited collection is meant to address our felt sense of disconnection as well as our desire to recognize and work across/through differences and divisions. In other words, we do not wish to suggest academic feminists and public feminists never work together, nor do we suggest these divisions are imaginary or solely unproductive; rather, we want to provide a forum for discussion on how non-academic and academic feminists can better work together to enact desired social change. And because we are both young, academic feminists, we seek a co-editoror ideally two co-editorswho identifies as a public feminist and activist not affiliated with a university and who will help shape and produce this edited collection. We are currently in the very early planning stages for this edited collection. We have not drafted a call for papers or determined the collections organization because we would like our third (and possibly fourth) editor to have just as much of a say in this collection as we do. We recognize the edited collection is a primarily academic genre, and we are hoping to find publishers and formats that will accommodate a wider audience. Co-editor responsibilities: 1. Help to decide the direction and focus of this edited collection. 2. Help to draft call for papers. 3. Help to decide which papers we will accept. 4. Help to decide organization of collection (subsections, order of essays, etc.) 5. Help to provide authors with feedback and revision suggestions. 6. Help to draft an introduction and perhaps conclusion. 7. Consider submitting a chapter of their own (not required). 8. Help to find a publisher. If you are interested in co-editing an edited collection with us, please send your rsum (or CV) as well as a 300-500 word summary of your vision for such an edited collection and a brief biography explaining how your own experiences will contribute to this collection by October 15, 2013.
