The Veterans Incubator of Colorado announces 3 communications/media internships (more details below) - Media Relations - Fundraising - Social Media
The Veterans Incubator of Colorado (www.coloradoveterans.org) is a 501(c)(3) whose purpose is to help Colorados veterans achieve their dreams of business ownership. VIC uses a virtual incubator model to provide veterans in Colorado with the fundamental skills, training, resources, mentorship, and services needed to support entrepreneurship. VICs goal is to help with the launch and long-term sustainability of veteran-owned businesses, which will stimulate job growth in Colorado, and ultimately help the states economy. 1. Media Relations Intern Eager to learn about media relations? Want one-on-one time with experienced communications professionals and an internship opportunity that can help you build a strong portfolio? Then, the Veterans Incubator of Colorado, a new and rapidly growing non-profit, may be the right place for you. The Media Relations Intern will support and work closely with the Director of Communications to assist VIC primarily with media outreach. The intern will get hands-on experience in all aspects of media relations. This position requires 5 10 hours a week. This is an unpaid internship with the opportunity to earn college credit. Tasks include: Writing and distributing press materials and pitching the media Assisting with event publicity, including staffing and attending media events Managing media lists Tracking and reporting press coverage Participating in creative brainstorming Desired Skills & Experience:

Our ideal candidate is working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in communications, marketing, journalism or public relations, pays close attention to detail, enjoys talking with people, has strong written and oral communication skills, feels challenged by obstacles rather than defeated, is a problem-solver who doesnt quickly give up but finds solutions, and who does not define disappointments and setbacks as moments of defeat but sees them as learning opportunities. Military veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

2. Fundraising and Development Intern If youre passionate about making a difference in peoples lives, an internship with the Veterans Incubator of Colorado will provide you with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in marketing, community outreach and fundraising for a non-profit organization. VIC is a new and rapidly growing non-profit with a mission to help military veterans successfully launch and run their own business. The fundraising intern will work closely with VICs Director of Communications. The position requires 10-15 hours a week. It is an unpaid internship with the opportunity to earn college credit. Tasks include: Assist with brainstorming and planning fundraising campaigns Assist with developing community outreach campaigns Develop communication materials for various target audiences including donors, media, and volunteers Assist with grant writing Research new foundations to apply for funding Research potential donors and new fundraising markets Help with maintaining database records Help with responding to information requests Desired Skills & Experience Our ideal candidate is working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in public relations, marketing, journalism or communications with an interest in non-profits. This position requires someone who has strong written and communication skills, is self-directed but works well in a team environment, has strong organizational skills, and is highly detailed oriented but also flexible and creative. Individuals should have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Military veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

3. Social Media Intern The Veterans Incubator of Colorado, a new non-profit, is looking for a social media intern who is creative and will assist with updating VICs social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest. The internship requires 10-15 hours a week and is unpaid, however college credit can be earned. The intern will work directly with the Director of Communications. Social media experience is not required, but we want someone with a passion to learn how to make social media an effective part of a non-profit organizations outreach efforts. You should be the kind of person who thinks creatively and strategically and looks at technology as a frontier for developing fresh and innovative ways to communicate. VICs Director of Communications will work closely with the intern and provide ample hands-on opportunities to develop substantial social media relations skills. Responsibilities Keep up-to-date on social media developments and trends Regularly monitor VICs social media pages and post content Contribute ideas to find and retain users to follow/friend Draft blog posts and assist with communications to blog contributors Measure social media effects and develop reports Desired Skills & Experience We seek a candidate who is earning an undergraduate or graduate degree in communications, television, film, journalism, or marketing with an interest in new media. Candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills including editing, can work independently and in a team environment, pay close attention to details, be organized and can balance multiple projects at once.
