(St.

Augustine Church, Barberton, OH) (August 18, 2013)

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Living the Faith in August: Luke 12:49-53 Lord, come to my aid! (Ps. 40) 1. If we really choose to be disciples, Jesus warns us that it will not be easy. When in your life has it been the most difficult to follow Jesus? 2. Our society is divided on many issues today, including religious freedom. How would you explain the importance of this right to someone who is not Catholic? 3. Have you ever had to make a decision to follow Jesus despite opposition from someone you love? How did God help you resolve this conflict? 320 Holy Hours were kept with Our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration last week. If Jesus were actually visible in church, everyone would run to welcome him, but he remains hidden in the Sacred Host under the appearance of bread, because he is calling us to faith, that we may come to him in humility. "The Blessed Sacrament is the Living Heart of each of our churches and it is our very sweet duty to honor and adore the Blessed Host, which our eyes see, the Incarnate Word, whom they cannot see." (Pope Paul VI, Credo of the People of God) Remember to sign your name at the desk when you make a Holy Hour. Contact Judy Soltis if you are interested in making a Holy Hour. 330-212-0926. The Parish Picnic St. Augustine Luau is next weekend, Sunday, August 25 beginning with the 10:30am Mass. Dont forget to get your raffle tickets with the opportunity to be the big winner of $5,000. There are still T-shirts available for only $8.00. They will be sold at the picnic as well. The last picnic meeting is Wednesday, August 21, there we will finish the raffle baskets and tie up all loose ends. Volunteers are still needed, if you are able to assist, please fill in a space on the volunteer boards found in the church.

An anyone can do way to participate in the New Evangelization is to volunteer to help spread the faith through RCIA. What is the difference between Mortal Sin and Venial Sin? Mortal sin destroys the divine power of love in a persons heart, subsequently; it breaks with God, whereas venial sin only strains the relationship with him. Mortal sin opposes an important value, for instance, directed against life or God---murder, blasphemy, adultery; committed with full knowledge and full consent. Venial sins are opposed to secondary values such as honor, truth, and poverty and are committed without full knowledge of their seriousness or without full consent of the will. They disrupt the relationship with God but do not sever it.
