Pre-shool: In Hungary the children attend kindergarten or nursery school at first.

It starts at the age of 3 and finishes at the age of 6. Here they learn skills and activities which will be indispensible for their lives. [they learn how to draw, paint, cummunicate, count, play simple games, sing, socialize, behave in different situations, use their manual skills and eat regulary] At the end of the nursery years, nursery teachers check children if they are ready for school. Primary-school: After the nursery years the start the school. It normally starts at the age of 6 and finishes at the age of 14. Here they are divided into 2 sections. There are junior and senior section. The junior section lasts from fist grade to the fourth grade. Here the students learn the three R-s / reading, writing, arithmetics-counting/ They also learn simple literature and grammar. They have environment, techniches, arts, PE (physical education), RS( religious studics) and music and they continue what they started in kindergarten, but here they are given more freedom and independence. Afterthat begin the senior section at the age of 11 and it finishes at the age of 14. Here they are introduced into arts and sciences. Arts are literature, grammar, history, arts, misic etc.. and Sciences are biology,math, chemistry, physics, geography etc.. By this time they learn more and play less. The emphasis is on becoming more and more independent. The goal of the senior section is to prepare students for secondary education. Here everybody learns at least one foreign language. Students often go to the learning competitons where thes can win valuable prizes. In Hungary student get grades, one is the worst and five is the best. Secondary education: The students start the secondary school at the age of 14 and finish at the age of 18 or 19. There are three different types of secondary schools. We can speak about grammar school where the students learn only arts and sciences and the aim of these schools is to enable students to go to the higher education. But we also can speak about skill training school. Here they learn a trade such as plumber, carpenter, electrician.. and also arts and sciences. At the end of these schools students have to take the Hungarian school-leaving exam. Its the matura exam. If you attend a vocational school where the studets mainly learn a trade such as car mechanis, masonny and also learn special set of arts and sciences you give lots of freedom, because you should become adult. Higher-education system: After the secondary school the students go to the higher education if they wish. First of all, you need to pass the matura exam with good grades. There are some cases when you have to pass an entrance test and in the future you will need to have a language certificate. There are two types of higher education institutions, these are the colleges and unyversities. Here you have a major and you can choose it in arts or sciences. Here you have lectures and seminars and you have to pass tests, exams and complete lots of homa assignments. At the end of your studies you have to pass the final exam and you should write a thesis. Besides you need to have at least on language certificate. If you have met all the expectations then you graduate and get degree.
