HOW TO READ THIS CHART: Not everyone on this diagram is a gang member. This chart illustrates the connections between the people killed, hurt or jailed as a result of violence between FOB and FK. There are two types of connections: 1.) family and 2.) associates who are tied by events (arrests, killings, attacks) or have been linked together by court testimony.

hat started out as a dispute among a small group of friends has grown into a conflict that has killed 25 people and spread fear throughout an entire city.

These are the connections between the living (in white boxes) and dead (in black) caught up in the gang war between the FOB and FK, according to court files, police sources and interviews.

Vuthy Kong

is convicted of manslaughter for stabbing Adam Miu during a brawl outside a downtown karaoke bar. Miu was not a gang member. John Pheng (below) pleads guilty to assault with a weapon for hitting Mius brother over the head with a baseball bat during the melee.

Michael Oduneye wounds Jason Youn in a drive-by shooting at Southcentre Mall on Dec. 23, 2002. The Chan brothers, Timothy and Nicholas, were with Youn but not hurt. Six days later, in retaliatory attacks, the driver of the car, Linju Ly, is shot dead. And Vinh Le is shot and killed at a downtown afterhours club. The spate of shootings escalates the gangs differences into an all-out war.
