Prayer of Consecration
Eternal God, we unite in this covenant of faith. We spread your table with these gifts of the earth and of our labor. We present to you our very lives, committed to your service in behalf of all people. We ask you to send your Holy Spirit on this bread and wine, on our gifts, and on us. Strengthen your universal church that it may be the champion of peace and justice in all the world. Restore the earth with your grace that is able to make all things new.

ENTERING IN
Gathering Music Greetings *Passing the Peace *Opening Hymn I Sing a Song of the Saints of God *Gathering Words
God of Life, you are as near to us as our breath. Touch our eyes, that we may see you in one another. Open our ears, that we may hear your voice in the cries of the oppressed. Enter our hearts, that we may be filled with your love toward all people. Come, O God of life and breath and wholeness. Be with us now. Show us the way to new life and grant us the courage to be people of your Way. #712 UMH

Come unto me, all ye who labor, and I will give you rest.

Great Prayer of Thanksgiving

Please join in singing #2257-a (Preface) It is a good and fruitful work to give thanks to you, Almighty God, in all places and at all times and in all our tasks. In our cars, our homes, our offices, our fields, and our kitchens; at our tables, our desks, our telephones, and computers; when we are resting or waiting, laboring or supervising, following or leading. All these we do with all your people now on earth and all the multitude of heaven, praising your name and joining in their unending hymn: Please join in singing #2257-b (Sanctus) Holy are you and holy is your work among us in Jesus Christ, who came to be born in the home of a carpenter, a trade he learned and practiced, a laborer in our midst. He called out fishermen and activists. He healed the servant of a soldier. He received the support of resourceful women. He delegated his ministry to his disciples, empowered all his followers to do his divine work in this world. By his suffering, death, and resurrection, you gave birth to your church, delivered us from the bondage of sin and the power of death and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.

Be present with us as we share this meal, and throughout all our lives, that we may know you as the Holy One, who with Christ and the Holy Spirit, lives for ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread
With this bread that we break and eat

Christ is present with us

With this juice that we pour and drink

Christ is present with us

Come, for all is ready! Please join in singing #2257-d (Great Amen)

Prayer Time/Abba Prayer Peace for the Children Todays Bible Reading Deuteronomy 5:12-15 Matthew 11:28-30 Hebrews 4:9-11 Message

Words of Institution
On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: "Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: "Drink from this, all of you; this is the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." And so as a beloved and commissioned people, remembering your mighty work in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves, our daily lives, and our unique locations for ministry in the world-homes and hospitals, parks and stores, prisons and concert halls-as a living and holy sacrifice in union with Christ's offering for us as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Please join in singing #2257-c (Memorial Acclamation)

You are invited to pray in the spirit of the Lords Prayer, and in your original language, as appropriate.

LISTENING, LEARNING, LOVING

Who We Are
We are a community of friends hoping to live out our lives in the loving fashion towards which Jesus guides us. We do not claim perfection, merely forgiveness. We do not think we have arrived, merely that we are sharing the journey. We do not think we have completed our task, merely that we are learning to work, live, and play together as a family embracing the full spectrum of ethnicity, age, gender, family status, sexual orientation, heritage, physical ability, economic status, and religious background. To all who worship God in peace and fellowship, to all who want to find an inclusive community that expresses love for humankind, welcome to St. Johns!

Labor Sunday Litany

Today we celebrate workers and their contributions. Just as people in our sacred texts had varying jobs, we recognize the various gifts of workers today. We celebrate those in agricultural and food service. We give thanks for the work of your hands. May God bless the crops & animals that they might be plentiful. May the fields, factories, grocery stores, and restaurants be safe and healthy places of work. And may we strive to reform those workplaces that are unsafe and unfair in their treatment of the workers. We celebrate those in helping professions: medical professionals, teachers, social workers, and legal assistants. We give thanks for the work of your hands. May God bless you so that through you others may thrive. Forgive the places that have been neglected due to injustice. Give us strength and courage to work toward fair access to services for all Gods children and just treatment of those who give so freely of themselves. We celebrate those who work in factories and building professions. We give thanks for the work of your hands. May God bless you and your work that allows us to have safe shelter and vehicles, even as some of your working conditions are unsafe. We support your struggle for just wages and working conditions so that you too may be safe. We celebrate those who work from the home: caring for children, elderly, and infirmed. We give thanks for the work of your hands. May God bless your work and give you strength to carry on when the work is difficult. Our culture may not recognize fully your jobs as work, but we know that your work is often challenging. We will work with you for the respect you deserve. We celebrate those who work in cleaning professions. We give thanks for the work of your hands.

May God bless you and the work you do. Through your work our hotels, offices, and streets are cleaned and prepared for our use, and yet we often do not see you and the strenuous effort required of you. Forgive us for not recognizing your contributions. We support you and your struggle for fair and just wages and benefits. We celebrate those who wish to work but are unable to due to injury, illness, disability, or lack of access to jobs or transportation. May God bless you and give you perseverance in this struggle. We repent for the ways in which we may have contributed to your situation. We support you and will journey with you in the process of searching for opportunities for work. We celebrate those who have found a way to enter Gods rest: those who have passed away into the heavenly rest, those who have been able to truly retire and live without constant toil, those who are able to balance work & play finding ways to be present and productive in both their called professions, and in their relationships with others. May God bless you and may we learn to simply be with God and with those we love, enjoying a time of peace, renewal , and joy!. Let us pray: Creator God, who created all things from the work of your hands, we commend to you all workers, those named here and those who remain unnamed. Forgive us for the ways we contribute to injustice perpetrated on workers and on your creation. Carpenter Jesus, who draws us into your work with the marginalized, call us into your work of justice that we might change our own unjust ways and work toward fair and just treatment of workers. Powerful Holy Spirit, who empowers us for the journey, move in our lives and in our work that we might persevere in the face of injustice and claim the power you have bestowed upon us to work for justice. Holy God, Community in One, call us into your comforting arms for a time of resttoday and forever. Amen
