Issue 1 September 2013

SUMMER WAS CHOCKED FULL OF ACTIVITIES

Summer started with an End of School Blast followed by Vacation Bible School in July. On Friday following VBS, the youth left on a beach retreat. On Sunday August 4, Brantley Baptist celebrated its 121st birthday. Revival began long before Homecoming, and the spiritual blessings were beyond measure. We have added 6 new members with most of them being youth and children. A new membership class was started on August 11 and ended on August 21. It was held on Sunday evenings and Wednesday nights. Bro. Burney has been away in revival in Virginia. The Womens ministry quilted a quilt to be given as a door prize at the Womens Conference. WMU sponsored a church wide school collection of school supplies and sponsored the birthday party for the Luverne Nursing Home residents during the month of August. The Kathleen Mallory State Mission offering will be taken during September. On September 28th, Brantley Baptist Women will host their 4th Annual Womens Conference. The Nominating and Budget committees were hard at work as September begins a new church year. Then we will be well on our way to the holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. My! how the year has flown! We have so much more work to do. The Lord has really blessed Brantley Baptist Church, and we are experiencing revival every day. We anticipate the Lord doing many wonderful things in the life of His church. We challenge you to take an active role in the church and serve this year as the Lord leads you. RECAP OF VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Jungle Jaunt was this years VBS theme. Everyone had a fabulous time. 117 children, teachers and workers were enrolled. There was music, crafts, recreation, food, missions and Bible study for the full four nights of VBS. The children enjoyed learning their songs and motions. They were attentive to the teachers when they taught the Bible stories. Rachel Moates and Teresa Foster served as co-directors.. Peggy Marvin did a super job manning the audio visual equipment. The adults enjoyed a class taught by Earl and Gayle Henderson. There was something for everybody. The kitchen crew did a spectacular job with the feeding of the crowd every night. Three hundred-eighty one dollars and fifty three cents was given to the Alabama Baptist Childrens Home and Family Ministries. The girls brought the most money, and on Family night Bro. Burney got a pie in the face as a result of the girls filling their bucket with the most money. Rachel Moates had the honors of smacking him with the pie. Our youth were helpers in all areas. Missions was great as the children learned a life lesson, Bible story, and heard about a missionary. The teachers and helpers are commended for their time and energy in telling the children the good news of Jesus. The teachers did a great job decorating as they prepared for their jaunt in the jungle. Many thanks to June and Louis Boglioli for the spectacular job they did with the decorations in the sanctuary. We had 17 professions of faith. All in all, VBS couldnt have been any better.

Brantley Baptist Church Recognized

Brantley Baptist Church was awarded a certificate from the North American Mission Board for being the top church in per capita giving in the AL/Crenshaw Baptist Association to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering in 2012. It is great to have a missions minded church who support missionary work worldwide. Keep on doing what you are doing.

The Womens Ministry was hard at work quilting this summer. Mary Adams provided a quilt top and the ladies met in the fellowship hall and quilted for a couple of months. This jewel, being the first they quilted, will be given as a door prize at the Womens Conference on Saturday, September 28. Those ladies involved were: Madeliene Stricklin, Shirley Noblin, Teresa Foster, Gayle Henderson, Willie Pearl Mitchell, Tess Morgan, Delaney Smith, Gracie Smith, Patricia Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Chelsea Smith and Sara McGinty. They all had a great time of fellowship and fun.

Homecoming and Revival 2013

Brantley Baptist enjoyed a great Homecoming and revival. Homecoming was August 4. Rev. Travis Johnson was the guest preacher for the day. The sanctuary was packed. Lunch followed the morning service in the fellowship hall. We had no evening services due to revival beginning on Monday night. Bro. Burney spoke Monday through Wednesday nights. We were honored to have Rev. Jim Tate from Dothan with us on Thursday night. Revival was truly a spiritual blessing. We have added 6 new members since we began praying for revival.

GREAT THINGS FROM THE YOUTH!!!!

WORDS FROM THE YOUTH GROUP,

Praise be to our Lord Jesus, for his love is never ending. First, let me thank you all for your prayers and support of our youth group here at Brantley Baptist. We have been encouraged to see a true movement from the Holy Spirit among our youth this past quarter. Wednesday nights have become interactive with the youth, and its been uplifting to see how their questions and focus has matured. Recently we have returned from a youth conference in Panama City, Florida. It was held at the Laguna Beach Christian Retreat and hosted by Renown Ministries. Our speaker was Chris Terrell, and worship was led by the band, Letters from Patmos. Chris gave a series of riveting messages to the youth about being Real Christians. His challenge to the kids was to be the church wherever they are. What a blessing it was to see the Holy Spirit move in so many youth, especially several of our own. They were led through scripture on how to respond, employ, act, and lead as true followers of Christ, all the while encouraging them to take a good look at their own walk with the Lord. This brought many to tears and allowed broken relationships to be repaired. Our Father is still building His church, and I am thankful to be able to see it unfold. We have had several baptisms from our youth this quarter alone. Riley Jobin, Dustin Williams, Erick Marvin, Heather Christianson, and Adam Williams, not to mention others from different age groups in our church. I cant wait to see what the Lord has in store for the next quarter. We are forever thankful for your prayers and ask that you continue to lift us up unto the Lord. May His blessings be poured out on this church and those who make it up. Youth Minister, Michael Marvin

Brantley Baptist Church

Greetings from the pastor..

As you know, your pastor is just back from revival at the Beaverdam Baptist Church located in the mountains that extend from the Smokies of North Carolina into Western Virginia. Edward (Bish) Creel is pastor there. He was one of our favorite young people when we were serving in Bonifay, Florida. Bish is a devout and talented pastor. He is good at many things. He and Donna took very good care of me as did the church people. We had a wonderful revival experience. Nevertheless You were always on my mind in my prayers as I prayed for you dailymany of you by name. I had left the church here in Brantley with some discomfort because we were already in the middle of a spiritual revival. The good things happening here cannot be explained other than by the loving power of God. He has worked, and I believe, He has worked through His surrendered people.

I look forward to what our Lord is going to do in the future as this people here continue to grow spiritually, work diligently and pray fervently.
I love you allglad to be home!
