Singer scores hit with Summer Games song

Andrew Voerman
Twizel singer-songwriter Sarah Conlan is soaring high after her song was chosen as the theme song for Special Olympics New Zealands (SONZ) National Summer Games. Mrs Conlans song Soaring High was selected from dozens of entries in SONZs theme song competition. She said it was inspired by the motto for the National Summer Games soaring to new heights. SONZ chief executive officer Kathy Gibson said the song encapsulated the audacity that our athletes show in their sporting achievements. Mrs Conlan has said she will donate all her proceeds from the sale of the song to SONZ. Her family has been heavily involved with SONZ as volunteers and she said it was nice to now be involved in her own way. SONZ helps pay some of the costs of athletes travelling to the games, and Mrs Conlan said if the [proceeds from the] song can help get an athlete to the games, that would be great.
