Gaelic Football Lesson 6 TGfU Mini Game Competition Aim: is to finish the module on a very positive note with

a mini game competition to examine how well the pupils have adapted to a new set of skills while being involved in a team process. Learning Outcomes: [ Specific goals or Observable outcomes of the Assessment [How do I know that the pupils learned what I intended them lesson: By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to] 1Psychomotor: pupils would be expected to demonstrate the handpass with left & right hand, kickpass over long and short distance, solo, overhead catch, and scoring. 2 Cognitive: pupils should display an awareness of who is capable of competing in the different positions and organise the team to suit. Peer: As in lesson 4 the pupils who do have the knowledge and skill will at least attempt to assist and guide the weaker pupils at skills while each pupil must be allowed to express themselves to feel invloved. 3 Affective: encouagement from the teacher will allow each team to enjoy the game. Each team will modify the game to make sure that all of the players have full participation. Self: at the end of the lesson each pupils will examine how the class itself was conducted and also how they felt about the full module over the past weeks. to learn? Teacher/Coach: the teacher will observe the skill level to observe if each pupil displays a variety of skills.

Personal Goals: Although you may have envisaged a situation whereby the pupils would have become competent in all aspects of Gealic football it is possible that unless they are encouraged to practice outside the school there would not be sufficient time to introduce them to a full game situation. Today would be a marvellous achievement if they could display evidence of the rules and apply them to the skills already taught allowing the teacher/coach to observe that they have respect for each other. Pupil Prior Knowledge: Players will periodically demonstrate that they can cooperate but have difficulty in maintaining this approach from week to week because they require time to develop. It is always a good idea to challenge the pupils with some simple fitness tests which are only limited by the teacher/coach imagination. It can be accomplished by marking out a set distance with a number of footballs and timing either individuals or groups to complete a task in a game situation. After roll call divide the class into even teams. 10min Warm up Make sure the teams are aware of the time limit on the warm up. Guide the pupils through each of the skills beginning with the hand pass multi direction moveemnt bounce kick pass overhead catch shooting team positions bring the speed of the warm up to game pace. Provide sufficient room for each team to conduct their warm up.

Each team will play each other to gain points. The two most successful teams will play each other.

Reaffirm with the pupils the teaching points of the skills and the rules they need to adhere to. Keep the cues short and precise.

divide the area into two playing fields. encourage participation of all players. If a player is dominant modify the game to involve other players i.e. no soloing or cannot take a return pass. Allow the games to proceed without interuption unless some playeres are not participating because of their own actions or because of the actions of others. Ask the pupils at half time in each game if they feel challenged and would they like to change anything. Consider allowing a pupil the opportunity to referee the game for a period.This examines their knowledge of the rules and sportsmanship.

Pupils may become fatiqued because of the number of games played. Take Cognisance of the fact injury due to competitive nature of some pupils may occur.

Closure

Provide the pupils with the opportunity to engage in a group discussion regarding the module. Then ask them to provide an honest assessment as a class about the football.

Congratulate the class for their effort clearly demonstrating and explaining the aspects of the game and skills they displayed.

The game in the TGfU model is where the learning will take place even when the teacher/coach is teaching the skills in a modified or mini game. The players will come to understand the decision making processes involved. As the teacher questions the pupils/players to challenge their decision making while in possession, attacking, and defending understanding will develop. Students will become self motivated thinking players. Football is not a complicated game and the process from the beginning of the module will engage the pupils, learning the skills through game playing. By inviting the players for their input the how and when a player should attack or defend or run into space will emerge. The why is a further cognitive development and feedback through video analysis will cater for all the students learning needs. TGfU is without doubt a holistic approach constructing and reconstructing the information. TGfU will cater for all three learning domains in an enjoyable environment. It is an experience for the pupils and the teacher learning in the situation. It will lead to higher order thinking and this understanding can be transferred to other invasion games.
