offering sacrifice and sealing the covenant
My Dear People:
Our Christian brethren down the street from
Dawson Baptist Church asked if their Youth
Group could come to OLS last Wednesday
night with their on going study of different
faiths and hear about Catholic teaching.
There were about 35 in number with several
adults, (one of which was the Governor’s
son) who wanted to know what we Catholics
believe in forty-five minutes. An hour and
forty-five minutes later I finished with a
presentation in the hall and another in the
church itself. I started with the book review
of “90 minutes in Heaven”, the heaven
experience given to a Baptist Minister. I
reminded them that we teach that the grace
of God is not confined to the Roman Catholic
Church. The Vatican II document states that
Protestants have God’s grace from their
Baptism, Prayers, Hymns and Sermons.
I then told the group that someone loaned
me the book “23 MINUTES IN HELL. “
I put the book aside for a week. Then
decided to be brave and start reading. The
author was in the antechamber of hell. A
dark cell, then a pit, with horrible stenches
and extreme loneliness and grotesque
creatures, looking like neither animal nor
human. These were hurting him and visible
were the screaming people in the fire of hell.
It would put fear into anyone. Then the quick
thought: Thank you, Jesus, for saving me
from this. This was my introduction into the
Baptist and Catholic common denominator:
Jesus is our Savior
This also opened up the topic and
explanation of the Mass, with the Liturgy of
the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist . I
mentioned that nothing celebrates Jesus, as
our Savior, as much as our Catholic Mass.
Since last Sunday’s readings pertained to
God and His people in terms of God saving
His people, I used Sunday’s three readings
to teach the meaningful message of the
Scriptures at Mass last Sunday. In the first
reading (Exodus 24) we read of Moses
between God and His people with blood,
taken from that one bullock and sprinkled
half on the people and half on the altar.
This is God saving His people if they obey
His laws. He would save them. The law is
read and the people respond
“All the Lord has said, we
will do; we will obey.”
Then the second passage from the Bible on
Sunday was from Hebrews in which we read
about God saving us through the sacrifice of
Jesus and His blood offered for us, as He,
Priest ,Victim , and Savior of the New
Covenant offers Himself for us.
Our third scripture reading, was about the
Last Supper during which Jesus said:
“This is my body given up for
you. This is the cup of my
blood of the New Covenant
which will be shed for the
forgiveness of sins.”
Then Jesus told His apostles to do this in His
memory.
What a commemoration of Jesus as our
Savior.
I told them the whole Mass is so Biblical as
we repeat the Lord’s Supper as He
mandated to reseal the covenant: God will
be our SAVIOR, if we resolve to keep His
commandments. I emphasize Jesus‘ desire
for others besides the apostles to receive
Him under the appearance of bread and
wine. In John Chapter 6. Jesus said to a
large group that His Flesh and Blood was to
be consumed. He meant it literally saying
“My Flesh is true Food and
My Blood is true drink.”
When they walked away because they took
Him literally and He meant it that way, it was
too much to believe. Jesus only asked His
apostles if they too wanted to walk. He
meant it. Our Savior, Jesus, wants that
intimacy with us. He is our loving Savior. MASS INTENTIONS

Volunteer of the Year Award
The Inaugural OLS Ernie Eltz Volunteer of the
Year Award will be presented annually by the
Knights of Columbus to the OLS parishioner who
best personifies the spirit of volunteerism to our
Church community shown by Ernie Eltz. This
award will be presented during the 4th of July
Festival. 2009 Nomination Forms may be picked
up in the Church Vestibule. Nominations can be
put in the Sunday collection, in the marked box
located in the Vestibule, or can be brought to the

Thank You
Adrianne Price, one of our cantors, would like to
thank Msgr. Muller and the women of the OLS
Altar Sodality who encouraged and supported
her for making her first CD. It took a long time
and went through a couple of changes, but it
finally came together in God’s time and in His

along with her husband,
Mark, and her children Anna Lisa (8) and Jack
(6), who are in the PSR program. Seven years
ago, Sarah left her former position as an attorney
to become a stay-at-home mother and now has
been led to work in the PSR office.
