Office Procedures
The office is a very busy place, especially at the start and end of school. By keeping the following in mind, it will help to eliminate confusion in the office.

Student Forms Parent/Guardian Signature Required

Student Information Verification forms were sent home this week. It is extremely important that you take the time to complete or correct the information on this form in order for us to update our computerized student data. It is necessary to complete a form for each child in your family as each child is uniquely identified by a student number. We also sent home Photo/Walking Consent forms that require a parent signature.

Please make sure you call the office (613-259-2777) or indicate in your childs agenda if your child will be absent from school or if there is a change in your childs dismissal routine. There is a student sign out book on the counter at the office. Please make sure you fill this out if you are picking your child up before the end of the day. All late arrivals will require a late slip before going to class. For parents who pick up your child(ren) on a daily basis, we request that you pick them up outside the doors at the south end of the school. Your child(ren) will be walked down to the south end and will be there waiting for you. All money and permission forms are to be returned to your childs classroom teacher. The office does not have money to make change.

Please return all forms by Mon., Sept. 9, 2013

Your co-operation is greatly appreciated!

Student Accident Insurance

All students should have received an envelope with information regarding Student Accident Insurance. The School Board does not insure students and therefore, any dental or medical expenses incurred are the parents responsibility. Parents are strongly encouraged to purchase student accident insurance, it is extremely comprehensive and costs as little as $2/year/student. The insurance agreement is between you and Reliable Life Insurance Company. If you wish to subscribe you can apply directly on-line at: www.insuremykids.com Any questions should be directed to Reliable Life Insurance Company toll free at 1-800-4630KIDS (5437)

Allergies
We would like to remind you that there are children in our school with life threatening allergies to peanuts/nuts. This is a medical condition (anaphylaxis) that causes severe reaction to specific foods and can result in death within minutes. As this affects the entire school community, we are strongly requesting that you not send foods or items containing peanuts or nuts to school with your child. If your child has an allergy or medical condition that could put his/her health in jeopardy and you have not advised us, please do so immediately. If your child rides the school bus, this information will also need to be shared with the bus driver.

Make a Difference In Your Child's Education Join Parent Council

Parent Council Chair: Natasha McIlquham
Email: maplegroveparentcouncil@gmail.com First meeting: Sept. 24th at 6:30 p.m. Nomination form on last page of newsletter

Parent council is getting ready for another busy year. We need you!
Parent Council meetings are open to all parents and/or guardians of the students attending Maple Grove. There are 4 meetings a year and meetings are approximately 1.5 hours long. Why should I come out to the Parent Council Meeting? Parent Council cannot function without the volunteer support of parents. There are many ways to be involved in and enhance our children's education. By attending the meetings, you will be able to stay informed as to what is happening at Maple Grove, find out about volunteer opportunities, and have the chance to meet the parents of other students at Maple Grove. What does Parent Council do? Council acts as a general liaison between parents/residents of the School vicinity, the school board and the staff and administrators of Maple Grove School. Council is a resource organization to the school, filling those needs not already covered by the school governing bodies. It informs parents of the various functions and activities offered at the school which enable them to better assist their children with their education. We raise funds to help finance the activities and programs offered and to assist with the purchase of materials. We make good things happen!

Volunteers in the School

All volunteers in the school are required by Board Policy to have a Criminal Background Check done through the O.P.P. Forms are available at the office, there is no charge to the volunteer to have the check done. We appreciate our parents and members of the community, and your dependable willingness to volunteer when we need help. We also would appreciate you making the time and effort to complete the Reference Checks. If you are uncertain as to whether your Reference Check is up to date, just indicate so in your childs agenda and we will check for you.
