Comprehension Pg 8-9 of fatty 1) Why did the Kaiser want to have a large navy? The Kaiser wanted a large navy because he and his admirals felt that Germany needed a navy to protect its growing trade. Hes wanting to grow his empire, and without a large navy it is impossible to do. 2) Why did the British find this so threatening? Because the German empire was growing, therefore the most powerful British empire feeling threatened. It was also a threat to all of the British colonies. 3) Why did the introduction of the Dreadnought make other battleships obsolete? Because it was a new class of warship and it was so much better than the other ships. The production of the warship increased, therefore making the other battle ships not as important anymore. 4) What were the results in England of the Arms race? They spent millions of pounds on growing their military, not just the navy, it included the army and others.

So Germany decided to produce more weaponry, ships, etc. The English found this a threat so THEY decided to produce more weaponry, etc. Germany decided to do the same and this continued on, leading to the Arms Race. The arms race might have led to Britain declaring war on Germany sooner rather than later because many other countries were threatened by Germany producing so many warships and weaponry that many countries felt sure that war was bound to come sooner or later and already had begun to make detailed plans for what to do if the war had started.

Origin: Purpose: Value: Limitations This article is definitely biased because it is the Kaisers OPINION, and he is German, therefore being biased towards his country. Definitely opinionated. It reflects Germanys opinion on England. It is not an insightful analysis of events and policies of that time, it just shows what the Kaiser had to say about England, and give his opinion. This was at the time of the Arms race when Germany had begun to produce their own Dreadnoughts, when there was tension between the English and them. It was published in England, but it was an interview of the Kaiser, therefore reflecting Germanys opinion on England, in a negative way. The article was written at the time when Germany had begun to build their own Dreadnoughts. Nationality of the journalist is unknown This interview appeared on the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

He is basically scolding the British. He is also talking about the growing German empire and the potential she has. 2) Why do you think the German government allowed it to be published

I think they let it to be published to show that they are stronger, to show the others they are not scared. I also think the German government is saying that they are going to continue to do what they are doing and they are not going to stop.
