FAQ
1. What is this Softmii thing?
It’s a Wii modification pack by the Softmii crew which enables you to… (Read
the features section)

2. Is it safe?
Fortunately, yes. It is safe… Don’t be scared of the disclaimer, we (The Softmii
Team) just don’t want to get sued and clearing our names.

3. IOS Downgrader asks for reboot as soon as I launch it! HALPPPP!!

That means all of your IOSes are already hackable. Proceed as normal.

4. I load the Twilight Hack, and then when I did the hack, it froze….
 A main possibility is you are using the wrong slot. Choose the other save slot in
TP.

5. I got an “Exception DSI occurred” message while doing the Twilight Hack,
help!
It’s either:
a) A bad HBC installer file. Get a better one in hbc.hackmii.com
b) Bad SD Card, get a new one

6. I downloaded another app, it doesn’t appear in HBC!!

Rename that file to boot.dol (If you have sendelf installed on your PC, rename
the file to boot only as Windows hide extensions)

7. Okay, got it sorted out, but it shows “Not a valid Wii application”!
The file is not compatible with the HBC.
Either:
a) Get the .dol file
b) Consult the developer so they make a .dol version
c) Convert the file using Elf to DOL Converter (Found in wiibrew.org)

8. How do I uninstall Softmii?

Run Hacks Remover application. Then, install a System Menu WAD (289 for
US, 290 for PAL). Then, uninstall HBC, remove Twilight Hack, and update
your Wii.

9. Can backups finally be read at 6x?

No, backups will read at 3x. It’s a drive firmware problem. Your solution? Buy
the original or get a chip

10. Can I play online?

Yes

11. Can I update my Wii?

You can, but it’ll remove Softmii. My advice? DO NOT UPDATE.

12. A game asks for an update! Help!

Not sure if you followed the guide correctly but, install the preloader hack titled
“ Skip Disc Update check”

13. The game wouldn’t play!!

Either:
a)The ISO is bad
b)Your disc is bad
c)It needs a special IOS. Look around.
d)It is patched, run it using Gamma

14. Can anyone tell me what does all the hacks in Preloader do?
 Remove Health Warning -Removes the Health Waring on Boot
Region Free Wii -Makes you wii region free
Update Blocker -Blocks ninty discs updates
Force Disc Region -Forces Discs own region
Region Free GC Video Patch Mode - patches the video signal to a video

signal supported by your Wii’s region

Remove Diagnostic Disc Check - Let you boot retail discs from the recovery
menu when Y is pressed on the first gc
controller
Remove BGM - Removes System Menu Background Music
Region Free GC Games - play gc games of all region
Remove NoCopy Protection - Removes The Copy Protection From Game
Saves
Move Disc Channel - Allow The Disc Channel To Be Moved
IOS Reloading - Forces disc channel to load everything with cIOS249 (a
Patched version of ios36 that enables loading backups)
Doesn't work with cIOSCORP or games meant to run with
ios36 like Rockband2 for instance, which requires IOS37.
Disc Area Check - forces the area settings of the disc to the default console
settings
Region Free Channels - makes the channels region free (not working on some
wiiware titles)

15. Tell me the meaning of each of the settings.

Stop Disc – Stops the disc from spinning
Ignore Standby – Ignores Standby mode
Autoboot to – Sets what medium should you boot into when you turn on your
Wii
Beta updates – Set to enable if you want to receive beta updates

16. How do I install cSMs?

It’s simple, put the app file into the “Softmii” folder in the root of the SD Card.
Then, launch Softmii Tweaks Toy, and navigate to the app file (Theme) that you
want and install.

REGION. 00000045.APP SHOULD BE USED ON PAL, 00000042.APP NEED TO
BE USED ON NTSC.

WHERE SHOULD I START?

VIRGIN SYSTEM VERSION= FULL GUIDE

HOMEBREW CHANNEL INSTALLED = PHASE 2 ONWARDS

 3.2 STARFALL/cIOSCORP/Riiski/SoftMii = PHASE 3 ONWARDS

HBC’D NON-STARFALLED (OR SOFTMIID) 3.2 AND BELOW = STEP 13 ONWARDS

Requirements:

PAL or NTSC-U Wii [No Others Have Been Tested]

SD Card (of at least 512MB) [formatted to FAT]

The SoftMii Pack, unpacked to your SD card ROOT

Twilight Princess Retail

Internet Connection For Your Wii (For Full Set up)

PHASE 1 - It’s all about setting HBC up

0.1) Never played Zelda before? Create a save file.

Played Zelda and want to backup your save? Copy the save to the SD Card using Data
Management. Then, copy the data.bin found in private -> wii -> title -> RZDE/RZDP/RZDJ
(E is for US, P is for PAL, and J is for JAPAN) to somewhere safe.

1) Identify your System Menu, head to the Wii Settings and check the text on the top-right
section. The number (3.2, for example) is your firmware version whilst the text (U, for
Example) is your region. U is USA (NTSC), E is Europe (PAL) and J is Japan (NTSC).

2) 3.3 and below? Extract the Twilight Hack -3.3 zip file to the root of your SD Card.
3.4? Extract the Twilight Hack 3.4 zip file to the root of your SD Card
Both will create a folder called private which contains the Twilight Hack

Please also RENAME the HACKS.INIPAL or HACKS.ININTSC file depending on your

region to HACKS.INI and place on the ROOT of SD.

3) Delete the Twilight Princess save in the Wii. Then, copy the Twilight Hack over according to
your region (The regions of Twilight Hack can be fathomed by checking the icons)

4a) Before doing step 4, for US Twilight Princess, check the version of your disc by taking a
look on its back. Find a text that says “RVL-RZDE-0A-<version number>”. Check if it says “0”
or “2”. Keep this in mind.

4) Start Zelda regularly, load the Twilight Hack save (Remember 4a? For users with “0”, use
TwilightHack0, for users with “2” use TwilightHack2. Both can be found in the Load Game
menu). Walk backwards as soon as the game starts.

5) HBC 1.01 installer will begin, answer yes to everything.

5.1) Your system will reboot, and you’ll find the Homebrew Channel.

6) Start the Homebrew Channel, and load “Wad Manager” you find will find in the list of
applications.

7) Select “Load From SD”, and then select “IOS16.wad” and press (+) to install

8) Press the "Home" button when it finishes.

9) Go into Homebrew Channel once more and run "Custom WadManager"

10) Select "Load From SD" once more and this time install "cIOS249rev7.wad". If that fails, use
“WAD Manager”
 PHASE 2 – Let’s Downgrade, Shall We?

11) Return to HBC, launch IOS Downgrader, that tool will downgrade all of your IOSes. If it
fails, re-launch again. IF IOS Downgrader requires a reboot as soon as you launch it, just
skip this step or read the FAQ.

Your Wii IOS's are now proper and hackable, Regardless will still need the special 3.2, So
lets do the following steps after you make sure you have a net connection.

12) Run HBC (Homebrew Channel) and load Softmii NAND Browser. Once loaded, press A on
Title, then go to 0000001, press A, then, travel to 0000002, press A. Find your app file
(00000042 for US and 00000045 for PAL) and press “+”. Wait till the “File written to the SD
Card” message appears, then press Home.

NOTE : This is your backup to restore your system menu back to normal using Softmii
Tweak

I’ll greatly send the .doc file if you know how to fix this dumb gap
13) Load AnyRegion Changer 1.1b mod05. Once booted, it will ask about Korean Disc, just
ignore and proceed. (Thanks to QLeap for the ARC mod!)

14) Get into the options (Press A), and IGNORE the top section which has region change stuff
and EULA stuff. Touch anything in the top section, you are in a great risk of screwing up.

15) Look at the mid-bottom options, about installing 3.2 (or 3.3K), and leave it on 3.2E for PAL
/3.2U for NTSC

16) Press A on "GO" and then answer YES when it asks if you are sure.

17) Answer "NO" when it asks about Korean Disc Loading. (It messes with WAD installs 

18) Answer "YES" when it asks to install SPECIAL STARFALL TYPE-HACKS. Wait for it
to finish, it can take a few minutes. Then press HOME when finished to reboot.
 PHASE 3 – Reaching the Finish Line!

IF YOUR HAVE PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED PRELOADER

YOU WILL NEED TO RUN THE HACKS REMOVER FOUND IN THE
HOMEBREW CHANNEL.

18b) If you previously had Preloader installed run Hacks Remover, it will remove your
Hacks.ini

19) Load Preloader from Homebrew Channel. Read the Disclaimer and press 1 to install.

20) Once done, it should reboot your Wii and goes into the Preloader menu.

IF YOUR SYSTEM DOESNT REBOOT INTO PRELOADER, SIMPLY POWER DOWN

AND POWER UP ONCE MORE, BUT AS SOON AS YOU POWER UP, PRESS AND
HOLD RESET

21) Select “System hacks”

22) Enable all the hacks you like (recommended - Skip Updates, Move Disc Channel and
No Copy)

23) Select "save settings" and wait for “Settings Saved” message.

24) Press B, and enter Settings

25) Set "auto boot: System" (using the D-Pad Arrows), and save settings with A, then Press B

26) Get back to HBC by selecting “Load Homebrew Channel”

27) Run “CIOSCORP INSTALLER”. (It may freeze briefly. Thanks to WiiBlaster + Icefire)

28) Exit and reboot your Wii

Another damned gap……

29) Launch SoftMii Tweak Toy, select the custom menu you want to install *REMEMBER
42.app for NTSC, 45.app for PAL (this is totally optional and will change the look of your wii,
these themes are available from SoftMii.org and need to be placed in the SoftMii folder on the
SD card.)

30) When the installation is complete press Home to return to the Homebrew Channel and turn
off your Wii
