cis/2

Overview The CIS (CIMsteel Integration Standards) is one of the results of the Eureka CIMsteel project. The current version 'cis/2' is an extended and enhanced second-generation release of the CIS. Developed to facilitate a more integrated method of working through the sharing and management of information within, and between, companies involved in the planning, design, analysis and construction of steel framed buildings and structures. There are a number of versions being analysis, physical and manufacturing formats for steel structures and this format has been widely used in the steel sector for a number of years. The only downside is that multi-material objects cant really be defined as the standard just really concentrates on steel objects. For more information regarding this standard see - www.cis2.org Note - for the extended cis/2 format used for the interoperability between Tekla Structures and SmartPlant 3D see SP3D

How to create cis/2 files in Tekla Structures

Select File - Export - CIMSteel and there are two options Analysis and Manufacturing Model. The Manufacturing option is used for the interoperability with SmartPlant 3D and is defined under SP3D. Again the required objects need to be selected or all through the CTRL[A] function.

For linking to A&D systems the default values are normally okay. However, the values can be amended as required.

How to import cis/2 file into Tekla Structures

To insert a file select - File - Import CIMSteel

The following form will then be loaded and just click onto the property box. If a model has already been imported just select a new model name. This also allow for the updating of models.

If a new model then just select the Properties button and the following form will be loaded.

The model type has three options - Analysis; Design and SP3D. The analysis option is used if the file was created in an A&D system that can only support analytical objects and the Design option is adopted if physical objects are supported. The SmartPlant 3D option in covered in the separate SP3D instructions. The X, Y and Z origin options can be used if the model position needs to be moved. The combining members and length is use if you have an analytical elements that you want to combine into physical elements and a maximum length would be required in this case.

For more information on this tab see - conversion file

The Advanced tab defines how you want Tekla Structures to respond to the action statements. Once all tab pages of the form is complete then you then need to select the Apply and OK buttons

The select the OK button for inserting and select the model you want to import as below.

The objects will be inserted and the new items can be inserted as below.

The final option is to confirm that new objects are required to be saved within the model.

After importing a model it is always a good idea to right-click the model view and select the 'Fit Work Area to Entire Model' option, to ensure that the imported model is totally visible. Also if parts are missing then the View depth Up and Down values will need to be increased.

For further file infromation - As far as the import goes, if the import goes well the CISImport.log file will be empty. If there are some issues and the import stops, then there will be some remarks in that file. If you need a summary of the file then open the cisModel.htm file in the project folder with Firefox and you will be able to see the members
