23, SS12/4, Taman Ceria, 45000 Rawang, Selangor. 10 March 2013. Dear cousin Colin, How are you'/ Are the winter days in London getting colder? I'm writing to tell you about the 'Batik Fun Run' which your parents, my parents and I participated in last Sunday. This is a family focused event organised in conjunction with 'Batik Week'. They hope to rekindle the interest in batik and to show the versatility of batik in that it can be used for anything. lt is a fun event to get everyone involved in batik and to bond as a family in a healthy way. Batik is part of our heritage and should be appreciated by all Malaysians. Did I say 'fun' and healthy'? We had a lot of fun, especially your mum. She was very caught up with the event. She had planned her costume half a year back. You would have hugged her if you had seen her get up. l'll be e-mailing some photos to you. Enjoy them and I'm sure you'll never believe that the photos are that of your prim and proper mum. All of us, including your Dad, were pleasantly surprised. She had batik overall complete with hat, footwear, gloves and bag. She won the award for the most innovative way of using batik. We completed a 3.5 km walk ending in Berjaya Times Square. The batik outfits were colourful, vibrant and eye-catching. Other awards included Youngest Participant, Oldest Participant, Largest Family Group and Family Most Creatively Dressed in Batik.
