Saba Razvi English 1301-6 August 26, 2013 In the making of a great writer When a reader opens a book they should be able to feel transported to a different world whereby he/ she feels a connection with the protagonist or abhors the certain characteristics that define the protagonist. A piece of writing transforms from a few letters on a paper to great writing when and if the writer is able to get the readers attention through the emotional, psychological and sometimes mundane whirlpool he/she takes the reader through. The writer should be able to create a lasting relationship between the reader and the characters. An author should be able to excrete emotions from the reader through his/her style of writing. When reading a book one should have about two emotions; the need to put down the book or never stop reading. The structure of the writing can be constructed in such a way that could make the reader at odds with the protagonist or feel like he/she is living the life of that protagonist. For example when reading Othello, the moor by Shakespeare the reader is introduced to a tragic hero that lets his jealousy and lack of self-confidence lead to his untimely death. Shakespeare through his writing, makes the readers feel the self-doubts Othello has for himself by letting the readers know Othellos impression of himself. The scenes Shakespeare composes, draws some sort of emotion from the reader even if its anger over how Othello has no trust for his wife or confusion over why Othello would believe what others tell him so easily. Shakespeare talent to make the readers feel different types of emotion through his writing easily transforms his writing from ordinary to extraordinary.

The writer should be able to show the emotional growth of the characters through his/her writing. One doesnt want to read a book where they are left feeling bereft or confused about the sudden change of attitude in a character, instead they want to be updated on how and why the character changed. For example in Othello Shakespeare shows the shift Othello undergoes from being a loving husband to his wife, to a jealous raving beast through his selfdoubts about his skin color. The reader is not left thinking why Othello suddenly changed but if he would ever realize that his wife is not cheating on him. The dynamic ways Shakespeare emphasizes on Othello psychological growth stuns the readers but also helps them understand why he goes crazy, which makes Shakespeares writing eloquent. A writer should always impose his/her views without hindering the readers view. Shakespeare through Othello is able to point out the faults and prejudice in society. He emphasizes on how Othello has become a man with no self-confidence because society has deemed the color of his skin inferior. One is able to learn how some prejudicial views impacts the life of others. Yet the reader can also agree to disagree with Shakespeare by feeling that Othellos skin color is not an excuse for his behavior even though society is to blame for his selfesteem. The reader at the end of reading every writing can be left with two or more things. The first can be regret or anger over how the characters developed through the story ad the second could be shock over the realization that not every character overcomes their adversity. In conclusion, a great piece of writing is made when the author excretes dynamic emotions from the reader throughout the book while imposing his views but not hampering the readers thoughts.
