Before Fathers imprisonment, Mother had a good life. She was almost always at home, play or read the story that she wrote to the children. Her main duty was to make sure the children were taken care of. However, after father was gone she needs to work to feed, educate and clothe the children. Mother learned to be brave, independent and resourceful women. This incident had changed her life as she became the breadwinner of the family. He is the epitome of kindness, loving, trust and a father figure to the three children. The Old Gentlemen was the only passenger that waved back to the children every day as the train passes by their home. This creates a special bond between them

This showed in the story when he helped the three children to buy special food and medicine when their mother was sick and without any doubt he asked Mr. Perks to deliver the things to the children that evening. The Old Gentlemen also helped Bobbie to clear Fathers name using his influence in London and lead to the capture of the real spy. The Old Gentlemen fine qualities made me like him. He proved himself to be kind, nice, trustworthy, helpful, positive and a real gentlemen. Incident that you think is important/concern for others / kindness / exciting event An incident that I think is important is when the children risk their life to prevent a train accident. They notice a landslide on the railway track. They use their red petticoats as red flags to warn the oncoming train. Their act of bravery and concern for others touches the heart of the train passengers. Their bravery is honoured in a special ceremony where each of them are given a gold watch by the old gentlemen.
