In our constant pursuit of continuous improvement we are happy to announce a new initiative for this year called Second Cup of Coffee. This is designed as an opportunity for parents to come in, have a cup of coffee, and ask any questions about the programs, services, and offerings at our school or to make recommendations. Second Cup of Coffee will be held the first Wednesday of each month from 7:30 a.m. 8:30 a.m. in our schools media center. This will begin Wednesday, October 2. Your input and feedback is critical to the success of our school. Look forward to seeing many of you then! Julius Scott Principal

Counselors Corner . . .
District 5 in partnership with community churches will be providing weekend snack bags to identified students at various schools in the district. They are requesting donations from participating schools. If you would like to help out, please send any items from the list below to the guidance office between September 16-27. Any questions may be directed to Sara Beckman, school counselor.

Mammogram Van
The Mammogram Van from Lexington Medical Center will be at DFES on September 23, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. If you need your yearly mammogram this is an easy and convenient way to have it done. This service is open to the community so please call Linda Miller, our school nurse, at 4763906 to set up an appointment. She will be happy to answer any questions you may have!

Nurses Notes . . .
IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING MEDICATIONS Please remember that a responsible adult should deliver ANY medicine to the Health Room along with the permission slip. Children cannot transport medications. The medicine must be in the original container with the pharmacy label or in the case of over-the-counter medications, the manufacturers label on it. A written permission slip is required for all medications, including over-the-counter drugs, before being administered in any South Carolina school setting. The Permission for School Administration of Medication form, when signed by an authorized prescriber, may serve as the written permission. Stamped signatures will not be accepted. Please contact the Health Room (4763906) if you have any questions.

New Awards for Faculty and Staff


As part of our PBIS program some new monthly awards have been established to recognize staff members who embrace and demonstrate our PBIS principles of Performing Your Best, Responsibility, Safety, and Respect. The awards for September are as follows: WOW (Words of Wisdom) Award: Julanda Sparkman, for consistently using PAWSitive language with her students Silver Star Award: Dalene Gibson, for consistently giving out Silver PAWS to students POP (Power of PAWSitive) Award: James Chapman, for demonstrating PAWSitive characteristics every day!

DFHS Elementary Night Tailgate!


Calling all Silver Fox fans! Our DFES PTO invites you to join us at 6:00 p.m. this coming Friday before the football game for Elementary Night at DFHS. We will have fun tailgating before the game! Bring your favorite tailgate snack and visit with your DFES family. Chips and salsa will be provided compliments of Moes on Lake Murray Blvd. Free pom poms and DFES spirit bracelets will be given while supplies last. We hope to see you there!!
