Write your name, year and section, and the DATE. (No date have less 5% deduction) 2. Write the problem first before the given, required and solution. Do not split the given problems. Strictly no erasures. (No given and required are less 5% each). 3. List your final answer in order (a b c d). Not in proper order is wrong. Make a summary. 4. No shortcuts. 5. Use Yellow pad only.

Nuclear Power Plant 1. A pressurized-water nuclear power plant consists of two independent loops (see figure). The water in the primary loop receives heat from the reactor and delivers it to the boiler; the secondary loop is through the turbine for power generation. At full load the turbine is producing (D) hp; pressures and temperatures are indicated on the diagram. (a) Determine the ideal thermal efficiency for the secondary loop. (b) If the temperature rise in the primary loop is limited to (E) F, what will be the overall thermal efficiency of the H2O system? (Use 5 decimal places in your solutions and answer). Use compressed liquid properties. (a b order).

Non-conventional Energy Wind Power 2. A horizontal shaft, propeller type wind-turbine is located in area having following wind characteristics : (Read Power Plant Engineering by Raja). Speed of wind (A) m/s at (B) atm and (C)C. Calculate the following: a. Air density b. Total power density in wind stream, W/m2 c. Maximum possible obtainable power density, W/m2 2 d. Actual obtainable power density, W/m e. Total power from a wind-turbine of (D) m dia. f. Torque and axial thrust (Na) on the wind-turbine operating at 40 rpm and at maximum efficiency of (E)%. Answer a-b-c-d-e-f order.
