• Prologue to the poem,

‘Beauty’

The following is the poem written by Nilesh Ashok Jadhav

from the University of Pune, presently working as a
content developer in Station-e English Language
Laboratory, Rajkot, Gujarat. This poem was inspired when
he felt pain over the break in his relationship with his
dear friend, Kiranbhai Bhalodia over a trifling issue. The
poem tells the world about universal compassion and
consideration for all the things that are not beautiful and
worth loving due to certain human prejudices and biases
nurtured through generations since these evil things seep
from our forefathers. What we need to do is to love every
living being on this earth with equal love and compassion
irrespective of their beauty and usefulness. This is what
the message of the poem is.

Well the poem has other meanings too; and whichever

the meaning, it would rest on the readers’ personal
perspective. This poem is quite inspiring and brings
robust moral to whosoever reads and understands it.

• The English Translation of the

Poem
Beauty
All the things in the world are not pretty,

But they are not thrown away.

The rose is certainly beautiful.

What if its thorns prick you?

You need not trample them hard.

All people might not have sympathy.

Kindness is rare in the world.

What if the sparrows pick up a grain or two?

It’s not praiseworthy to murder them.

Honeybees are not good-looking to eyes.

Their presence is a great menace to us.

What if they sting your garden flowers?

It’s not praiseworthy to poison them.

The world has no sweet bangs in it.

All the houses have no love tunes.

We don’t get the honey of compassion.

What if we don’t get sweet words?

We need not drive people off our hearts.

Some stone might be very stern,

It might be more or less gray or black.

Even if it comes en route your way,

You need not break it with your hammer.
