Title of Activity: Alphabet Naming

Number of Teams & Group Size: Involve all participants as 1 big group

Logistics Needed: None

Time Allocated: 5 - 15 minutes

Goal: Each person must successfully call out an appropriate word / phrase that begins with the alphabet assigned to them

Preparation & Set-Up: None

Directions for Conducting the Activity: 1. Gather all participants into 1 big circle. 2. Inform participants that each of them must take turns to call out a word / phrase, however, it must correspond to the letters of the English alphabet. 3. The first person starts with the letter A, the second person uses the letter B, the third person uses the letter C, and so on until the final person. 4. If there are more than 26 participants, then the 27th person will start again with the letter A. 5. Each person must call out a word / phrase using their assigned alphabet.

Specific Rules: 1. The alphabet used is the English alphabet, with its 26 letters. 2. Each person must call out a word / phrase that begins with the alphabet assigned to them.

3. If a theme / variation is used, the word / phrase must be associated with it.

Variations: 1. Shopping theme: Participants have to call out an item that can be purchased in a shop, starting with I went shopping for , Apple, Baseball, Computer, Desk, etc. 2. Animal theme: Participants have to call out an animal, starting with I want a pet , Ape, Bee, Crocodile, Dodo, etc. 3. Food theme: Participants have to call out a food item or dish, starting with I ate some , Apricots, Burgers, Custard, Doughnuts, etc. 4. Movie theme: Participants have to call out a movie, starting with I watched , Aliens, Beauty and the Beast, Camp Rock, Die Hard, etc. 5. Name Adjectives: Participants have to introduce themselves using an adjective that corresponds to the letter of their First Name, such as Awesome Andy, Ditzy Debbie, Zealous Zack, Serious Sam, Wonderful Wen-Fu, Perfect Prita, Nice Nala, Mighty Miguel, etc. 6. Alphabet Review: Participants have to state their main learning / takeaway for the day, beginning with the alphabet assigned to them.

Facilitator Notes: Decide before beginning the activity whether you wish to have participants call out a word, or call out a phrase. Also decide your theme / variation, and if you wish to start from your right, or from your left. Exceptions or exclusions may need to be made for the following letters: K, Q, X, and Z. Decide whether you will allow words or adjectives to be repeated.
