KING
Christ the King Mission Statement
The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Thank you for the college students who spoke about Forty Days for Life and who asked us to pledge an hour of prayer at the Glen Ellyn Abortion Clinic. It was such an honor to have the Sisters who serve in Peru be present at all our Masses. Hopefully our parents, children and parishioners went up to sister personally. Thanks to the Knights who created a spirit of hospitality after Masses. A note of gratitude to Eileen, Faith Formation and her team who prepared our children, young adults and adults to receive the Holy Eucharist and Sacrament of Confirmation. Imagine all of this happened at Christ the King. God is good to us. Have a blessed week. Fr. Peter

Congratulations on Your Confirmation! Christopher Abbott, Jorge Hernandez, Ernesto Galvan, and Joseph Gedwill. Congratulations on Your First Holy Communion! Antonio Galvan

Year of Faith 2012-2013 Kairos: A Diocesan 3 Day Retreat for High School Students

Page 5

What I learned from the Kairos retreat is too much to be described with only words. To do my best in being able to reference my experience, I would have to say that this truly was a game changer. Never before have I felt the same love for Jesus Christ and Mr. big guns upstairs. This was truly awesome and I loved how it really opened my eyes to see what church was really all about. I feel more connected to God now more than ever. The road ahead has been shined, giving me the opportunity to do what I need to. Now, my prayers mean more that I truly take into consideration what I really want to be answered, and what I need to be taken care of. Praying for the children in poverty, and for the people that dislike who I am and what I do, all of it has never meant as much before as they do now. Kairos is a true event for helping you reestablish your faith in the lord. I would love for one day to have it available for more students in the future. This is one retreat that no one should miss. I cant thank you enough for the financial aid I received and hope that you can also help others in the future. Once again thank you and I cant wait to go back as a leader next year, Fr. Peter. Edgar Retreats like Kairos are an essential part of the faith life of our high school parishioners and diocesan parishioners. Edgar is just one of the students the parish assisted in a financial grant. Many of our young people from the diocese live in households in which their parents cannot afford to send their child to a retreat. Their parents struggle from day to day, even in our diocese. We are so fortunate as Christ the King Parishioners to be able to send our students to diocesan spiritual events. If you are interested in a Kairos retreat, parents, for your students, contact Sherry our Director of Childrens Faith Formation/Youth Outreach. Let US pray for our parishioners who are back to grammar, high school and college classes. We are so proud of what they do and their accomplishments! Fr. Peter Jarosz

Year of Faith: Catechism Corner

In order to preserve the Church in the purity of the faith handed on by the apostles, Christ who is the Truth willed to confer on her a share in his own infallibility. By a supernatural sense of faith the People of God, under the guidance of the Churchs living Magisterium, unfailingly adheres to this faith The mission of the Magisterium is linked to the definitive nature of the covenant established by God with his people in Christ. It is this Magisteriums task to preserve Gods people from deviations and defections and to guarantee them the objective possibility of professing the true faith without error. Thus, the pastoral duty of the Magisterium is aimed at seeing to it that the People of God abides in the truth that liberates. To fulfill this service, Christ endowed the Churchs shepherds with the charism of infallibility in matters of faith and morals. The exercise of this charism takes several forms. (CCC, n. 889-90)

Eucharistic Adoration
Regular prayer before the Blessed Sacrament outside of Mass offers individuals the opportunity to reflect more deeply on the profound and sacred mysteries that are celebrated in the Mass. Such prayer is an expression of gratitude, love, and adoration toward Christ. It is one way that Catholics may prepare themselves for the celebration of Mass, the reception of Holy Communion, and a life of service to God and one another. Pope Benedict XVI wrote, In the Eucharist, the Son of God comes to meet us and desires to become one with us; Eucharistic adoration is simply the natural consequence of the Eucharistic celebration, which is itself the Church's supreme act of adoration. Receiving the Eucharist means adoring him whom we receive. Only in this way do we become one with him, and are given, as it were, a foretaste of the beauty of the heavenly liturgy. The act of adoration outside Mass prolongs and intensifies all that takes place during the liturgical celebration itself (Sacrament of Charity, 2007).

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
Among the primary themes in todays gospel when we hear Jesus well known parable of the Prodigal Son is forgiveness and the need to repent. But from a stewardship point of view what is also interesting is one of the secondary themes: the failure to use responsibly the gifts that have been so generously bestowed. The youngest son who demanded his inheritance and left home broke no laws or religious commandments. His wrongdoing was that he wasted his inherited wealth, the abundant gifts given to him. His sin was in his extravagant living; squandering his gifts in pursuit of selfish pleasures. Good stewards acknowledge that everything they have comes from God, and they are required to cultivate these gifts responsibly. What are our God-given gifts? Do we use them responsibly? Do we exercise good stewardship over them?
