Introduction
The Boenninghausen module included in Radar 9 allows the user to search for symptoms according to Boenninghausen method. The way it works can be easily personalized in the options; order to take the rubrics, type of rubrics to take, steps to use, name of the clipboards etc. For example, you can choose to begin with the Main symptoms of the patient, then the localisation, sensation and modalities rubrics; you can also choose to work with concordances, with polarities, etc The options are very flexible and can be saved in different settings. The module is delivered with several pre-defined settings.

Launching the Wizard

The wizard is accessible via the new icon in the toolbar:

Or via the menu View:

Or via the menu HotKey Ctrl + Shift + F9

Searching for Symptoms

Basically there are 2 ways to use Boenninghausen method to search for symptoms: 1) The guided way (wizard). The process asks questions to the user and helps him search for the type of symptoms required by the predefined settings. 2) The free way. No question is asked to the user, he can choose the symptoms as he wants.

The Wizard
The wizard helps the user to choose a specific type of symptom at each step of the process. For Bilingual repertories, pressing F12 in the wizard will switch languages. For each step the wizard displays the same window with a specific question:

Step 1:
Enter the main symptom/complaint of the patient. What you enter here is a free text describing the main complaint of the user. It can be entered using the exact words expressed by the patient. For example:

-4-

Click Next or hit the return key once the text is entered. The text symptom is automatically created in the clipboard that is preset to receive the main symptom in the options. The clipboards will be visible at the end of the wizard process. The text of this main symptom can be edited at any time in the wizard by clicking on the Previous button or via the Investigation window (function key F8).

Step 2:
The next step prompts the user to choose the first category of rubrics to have the complete symptom.

This window is the same for each step of the wizard. It is displayed for each category of rubric specified in the options. For example: it will prompt to enter localizations, then sensations, modalities and finally the concomitants rubrics. The symptom categories and their order can be different depending on the settings selected by the user. Read the section about options for more information. The rubrics can be searched for via the standard Radar functions Select Chapter or Extended Search. These functions are accessible either with the 2 buttons in the wizard window and respectively F2 and F4. or with the usual Radar function keys

The Select Chapter window ( search in:

or F2) allows the user to specify the repertory to

The subrubrics can then be browsed until the needed rubric is found. The rubric can be selected with OK or with the usual keyboard sequence +1 to specify the intensity. If no intensity is specified, the default intensity for this category is taken (see options)

At this stage the default repertory to use can also be changed and the program will return to the Select chapter window. Note: The rubrics belonging to the current category are displayed in bold. The category is displayed between brackets at the end of the rubric. List of the categories

When clicking on Search the result is displayed. Note: The rubrics belonging to the current category are displayed in bold . From the search results window, you can select rubrics by double click on one, or select several and double click on the selection to take all the selected. You can also press +1 (or +2 etc) to take the selected rubrics. The rubric can be selected with OK or with the usual keyboard sequence +1 to specify the intensity. Once the rubric have been chosen the wizard window is displayed and lists the selected symptoms:

Other rubrics in the same category can be taken with the same process. When all rubrics have been selected click on Next to go to the next category. Rubrics can be deleted as follows: -8-

single click the rubric to be removed from the selection click the Delete rubrics button or press the Del key.

Note: each time a rubric is taken and if the option to automatically select the polarities is on, the program checks if a polarity exists for this rubric; if yes, then it is automatically taken in the special clipboard for polarities (depending on the options).

Step 3:
The process goes on with the next category of rubrics to have the complete symptom. In our example this step will specify the Sensation rubrics of the main symptom.

-9-

Step 4:
In our example this step will specify the Modalities rubrics of the main symptom.

Step 5:
In our example, the settings were specifying that the clipboard 5 will contains the Concomitant rubrics.

Step 6:
The next step of the wizard in our example shows the Polarities that were automatically selected (if the option for polarities is on). At this stage the polarities can be deleted if needed. However it is not possible to add other polarities.

Step 7:
After having gone through all the steps of the wizard the last screen displays the summary of the rubrics taken. The rubrics can be changed at this stage if needed or the choice can be confirmed if it represents correctly the main symptom of the patient.

If the main symptom of the patient is now complete click on Analyse.

The Free Way

With the Free Way method no question is asked to guide you in finding the symptoms. You can choose the symptom the way you want, either with the standard Find Chapter or Extended Search functions. The symptoms will be automatically taken in the corresponding clipboard according to the symptom marker. For example a symptom with a marker Modality will be placed in the clipboard for modalities (depending on the Boenninghausen options settings). When all the symptoms of the case haven been taken in the clipboards the analysis can be displayed as usual (by clicking on the analysis icon in the toolbar or with the function key F8). To be able to use the module in the free way, the option to start the Wizard must be disabled like this:

Start the free way:

When you click on the Boenninghausen icon in the toolbar, the free way will started and the following message appears:

- 12 -

Stop the free way:

To stop the free way, you just have to click on the same icon, the following message is displayed:

Take symptoms:

When the free way is active, the symptoms with a marker will be automatically taken in the corresponding clipboard according to this marker. For example: In the options, clipboard 2 is for localization, 3 for Modalities When a rubric of type Localization is taken, it goes directly to the clipboard 2, by typing +1 (take it with intensity 1).

This method to take the rubrics can be applied in the find and in the search results.

The Analysis

The analysis strategy and Boenninghausen options can be changed easily in the investigation window. Clipboards can be unselected if needed The default analysis method is specified in the Analysis options.

Concordances: Polarities: If polarities are used, another score line displays the polarities scores. The polarities can be displayed at the end or each polarity after the corresponding symptom depending on the options. A right mouse click on the degree opens a contextual menu with the Concordances for this remedy The subrubrics of the remedy in the Concordances chapter are listed in a window You can choose symptoms to be added to the repertorisation and the concordances will be added to another clipboard

The Predefined settings

A set of predefined settings are delivered with the Boenninghausen module. These settings were compiled according to the recommendations of well-known followers of the Boenninghausen method. Here are some examples: Example 1: Clipboards designation: Main symptom complaint Localities Sensations Modalities Concomitants Opposing symptoms The wizard process is used by default. Example 2: Clipboards designation: Localities Sensations Modalities Concomitants The wizard process is used by default.

The Options
There are 2 types of options: 1) General Options 2) Clipboards Options

General Options

Setting used: name of the settings used in the current session i.e.:Dr. Laras settings, Dr.Fischers settings, . Repertory to use: default repertory when searching for symptoms i.e.: Boenninghausen C., Taschenbuch 3.0 Help file to use: the help file describes the methodology followed by the author of the settings. Use the wizard: when this option is checked (ON) the symptoms are automatically taken into the clipboard assigned to their marker. i.e.: the Localisation symptoms will go to Localities clipboard
- 17 -

Archibel S.A.

BHM Quick Tour Eng.doc-

When this option is un-checked (OFF) the free way process is used Default strategy: specifies the default analysis strategy when analysing the case with the Boenninghausen method. Degrees to consider: Specifies the degrees of the remedies to be considered in the analysis Intensity for a complete symptom: Specifies the intensity of a complete symptom when analysing the case with the Boenninghausen method. The intensity of a complete symptom can be emphasized. Take automatically the polarities: when this option is checked a symptom that has an opposing symptom (polarity) is taken too. Example from b2ge: The symptom Parts of the body and organs - Hunger and thirst - aversion to wine has the opposing symptom Parts of the body and organs Hunger and thirst - desire for wine Highlight color: o For polarities: defines the color for the polarities

Clipboard Options
The options for clipboard define the name and the function of each clipboard. For example:

Cb: Name:

clipboard number clipboard name

- 18 -

Archibel S.A.

BHM Quick Tour Eng.doc

Type of rubrics:

describes the type of symptoms that will be taken in this clipboard. The symptom types are identified by markers. Several markers can be defined for the same clipboard. default intensity for the symptoms taken in this clipboard defines if the clipboard should be considered in the analysis

Intensity: Analyse:

In this example the 1st clipboard is used only to describe the main symptom/complaint of the patient. The other clipboards contain the other categories of symptoms.

The Repertories
The Boenninghausen module can be used with any available repertory. However some features of the program require specific information from the repertory: Symptom markers: Symptom markers are used to automatically take symptoms in a specific clipboard and to display only specific rubrics in the wizard process (function Find) Symptom polarities: Symptom polarities are used to automatically take the opposing symptoms. The second marker of the symptom is a P (like Polarity) and the opposing symptom is present in the cross-references of this rubric.

So far this data is present in the following repertories: Boenninghausen C., Taschenbuch 3.0 (German English) Boenninghausen C., Systematisch-alphabetisches Repertorium (only in German)
