"Each morning when I awake I say to myself: If I can evoke a smile from someone just by saying 'Hi' to that someone and showing that someone that
I care, then my waking would not have been in vain; It gives one a deep sense of purpose, of fulfillment, to know that by one's mere presence a little corner can be made brighter with a smile;

It also gives one a certain sense of power, a certain sense of authority to know that at the mere sound of one's voice the many facial muscles start working to produce a smile on someone's beautiful face!"
Paul Andrew Dawkins

Today I am smiling. I have every reason to smile --God has spared my life so that I can be a part of what is happening in 1982.
A lady just walked into my office with her young baby in her arms, smiling a beautiful smile as she talked about the beautiful day. She tickles her child and she smiles and I can only thank God for making His world so beautiful. In spite of the difficulties of life, we are still able to smile and say 'thank you, Lord, for making me' thereby making it possible for me to care and share with others. I was able to give this needy mother a few oranges. She smiled and said 'thank you' and then left. I feel a tremendous sense of excitement within me for this new year. Christ has brought political peace to Jamaica and as we once again move freely, we see a new awakening in churches everywhere. On January 10 we held our planning meeting for the new year. Migration has hurt our church attendance and so we had to look at different ways of winning new souls for Christ. The decision was taken that: 1. Every Christian should make at least two calls each month and a report would be made at the end of each month to the Church. We have had four visitors attending our morning worship through this calling programme.

2. All Christians would use the offering envelopes provided and write their names on them. The general feeling was that we should not be ashamed of our giving. We are making every effort to pay for our church property. We need
a building of our own but this cannot be a reality until the land title is in our possession.

3. After Bible Study we would have a fellowship for an hour. Refreshments are served and this has proved very help ful. There are nearly ten to fifteen persons in attendance each Tuesday night. I find Bible Study very challenging
and our participants are doing their homework.

We had a very lengthy discussion regarding the Christian Institute or College. If our churches are to grow or ifwe are to plant more New Testament Churches, then we must have a Bible Training Programme. As the discussion continues, please
continue to pray for us.

As we look forward to the greater part of the year, let me share a few challenges with you. Jamaica is at a crucial stage of its development and growth. It needs spiritual guidance through the building of more churches in Montego Bay; we are a growing city and we desperately need special training programmes. We need teachers, preachers, skilled tradesmen, who can

teach others how to assist themselves by learning a skill while teaching them the Word of God. We have many retired
Christians who share such skills, however, they are not enough. Would you like to volunteer to come to Jamaica for at least two years? Maybe you are looking for a place ofservice; maybe you feel you do not have the ability to teach others--but let us make a try. We are seeking the following persons to volunteer for at least two years:
1. motor mechanic

2. radio and television technician

3. home economics teacher ~ to teach girls how to cook, bake, etc.

If you believe you have the above skills and you can raise financial support, then please write to us. We need you desperately in
Montego Bay.

You will rememberthat for some time we have been talking about my 1973 Ford Cortina car that had travelled over300,000
sell it just before Christmas. Since then, I have been without a cir.

miles. It got tothepoint where we could no longerafford themaintenance cost andafter months ofadvertising, we were able to

I am, therefore, asking your help in assisting me financially to purchase a van. Wefeelthat a van is moreadvantageous as cost for transporting our children to camp, plus other activities, is way out of proportion to what we are able to pay. We are
trying to secure a used van at a cost of: $4,500.00 $1,000.00 ~ shipping cost $2.000.00 -- import duty
$7,500.00

We need your prayers and financial support to make this van a reality for the Morris family in Montego Bay.

I am not sure if the family willbe able to be with me, but I willbe visiting with youfromMay-September 1983, Lordwilling. You can arrange for me to be with you for whatever meetingsyou so desire. If a preacheris interested in ministeringto the
Church here in Montego Bay during this time, please let me know.

Our congregation is very grateful to the Blanchard Church of Christ in Blanchard, Pennsylvania for taking care of our Bible
School needs over these many years. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Our family is enjoying the best of health at this time. MaryBeth, our eldest daughter, will be sitting for her first big
examination from June to July of this year.

Linda Kay is now in the 9th Grade and she is now becoming a good homemaker.

Jomo and Andrae are bothat the agewhen theyask a lotofquestions which require careful thoughtbefore answering. They
are a lot of fun to be around.

Audrey is busy being a homemaker, and at the same time trying to make a success of her Boutique.
Thanks to you, our friends, for your prayerful support over these many years.
Yours in Christ,

The Morris Family

"Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth, Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing. Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name.

For the Lord is good; '

His loving kindness is everlasting. And His faithfulness to all generations".

Psalm 100:1-5

There is a time in the life of every Christian when he feels the need for a closer relationship with Christ. Sometimes this need is born out of a personal tragedy or there is a need for more Christian maturity in accepting the teachings and assurances found in the Bible. Sometimes we see so many tragic situations taking place in our world that we begin to ask God why - and

then come to realize that the answers are in the Bible. By seeking the answers from the Bible, we sometimes come out on top witir a-deeper-commitmentH-the^things of Christ.
When we are poor financially, it seems as if there is greater love for the Lord or the things ofthe Lord. However, we all know
that it is a mistake to believe that one can be totally happy in acquiring this world's goods even though it would seem so for the
moment.

position to continuepaying yourmortgage, so younowhave to move to a smallerhome, selloneofthe f^ily cars, and change your entire lifestyle completely. There is no easy solution to this problem, because if the family unit is not very tight or the
faith of one partner is weak, then the family can be adversely affected. The other problem facing some Christian families is the matter of making more money now and being able to be more financially secure. You might be able to buy a new car, new furniture and so over a period of time there is less dependency on the Lord while more emphasis is placed on self. "I am the one responsible for buying the things I own" -no longer saying that "Christ I thank you for blessing my life so that I am now in a position to share my blessings with those in need".
For those of us who are dedicated to the study of the Word of God, and who have shown a level of spiritual maturity - God

Perhaps you are laid off from your job after working for that organization all your life. Following on this, you are not in a

always takes care of his children. Oh, we might be called upon to make some adjustments in our life style, but we have no reason to fear; God always takes care of his children.
In Psalm 27:11, we read -

"Teach me thy way, O Lord, And lead me in a level path, Because of my foes".

This prayer came out of the language ofa heart deeply taught by experience. It asks for divine guidance and a plain path. At

every step of our lives, we need God's upholding and protecting hand. God's people are not kept in perpetual depression.
Sometimes, we are cast down to the dust, but this is not our continual state. There is exaltation in -

gladness, rejoicing over the love of God; strength, rising to achieve great service in the kingdom; victory, triumphing over failure and evil.

You might be asking why - because God is our teacher.

If the path by which God sees fit to lead us - either for spiritual discipline and growth, or for greater usefulness be it rough,
dark or dangerous, we will receive guidance and strength from the Lord.

My brothers and sisters, when faith is strained almost to the breaking point, God speaks, and all is plain (Genesis 22:14).

The assurances of the Lord are true

Romans 8:28

"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose". "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord

Psalm 84:11

gives grace and glory; No good thing does He

withhold from those who walk uprightly".

Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your

ways acknowledge Him, And He will direct your paths straight".

We must always trust God's leading even in the darkest hour of our lives.
Isaiah 43:1-2 "But now, thus says the Lord, your creator, O
Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you".

My brothers and sisters, if you are passing through the waters like I am, you will not drown. Remember God is with us. If the fire is raging on every side and it appears that you will be consumed, remember that you will not, because God is with us. It is wonderful being a Christian. Take heart and continue to serve the Lord; we will be victorious.

praying for our young people to come of age so that they can be married to stabilize the church. We are excited that on August 28, Brother Junior Dougall took unto himself a bride, Jacinth Buddie. We now have our first married couple from within our congregation. There are at least two more young men in our congregation who are also at this stage of development. We ask for
your continued prayers.

The children are all doing well in school and we are pleased to inform you that MaryBeth was successful in her examinations
and she gained two distinctions.

It is now that wonderful time of the year that we call Christmas. I am always looking forward to Christmas because for me it is always a time of reconciliation. Because of the birth of Christ, we who once were sinners and are now Christians are reconciled with our Heavenly Father. So Christmas has a new relationship for each of us. Christmas is also a time of thanksgiving. We thank God for sending Christ into our world, into our lives and for us Christians Christmas has that extra

special touch of love. Christmas is warmth; Christ living in our lives brings a glow that lights up our being iandthat is why we
continue to share Christ and all his teachings to our world.

Christmas is a time of forgiveness. The birth of Christ is sajdng "I have broken down the middle wall ofseparation between the Jew and the Gentile", and this makes for peace and an understanding that Christ came into our world to save all ofus. Let this Christmas be a joyous occasion for all of us, see the blessing that comes from Christ and recall them.
