"Everyone should add at least five servings of fruit per day to their diet because doing so provides us with numerous benefits. Eating fruits daily helps us to improve our health and enables us to fight infectious diseases. Smart eaters add key fruits to their diets as either tasty nutritious beverages, salads or even straight from the tree. Ripe bananas are one of the five key fruits which are excellent sources of the Recommended Daily Allowances (RDA) of nutrients. ENABLING: Every person can improve their health by consuming fresh fruits daily. Ripe bananas are one of the few fruits which are available every day, all year round. Bananas are an excellent source of essential nutrients such as Carbohydrates, Vitamins and Potassium but with very low associated calories. OBLIGATORY: Every person should consume fresh fruits because fresh fruits are easy to eat, tasty, easy to prepare and in some cases need no preparation as they can be consumed fresh, directly from the tree. It is also a known fact that bananas are free from fat, low in calories and rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients.

You may all be asking yourselves Why ripe bananas, why not some other fruit? I will explain why each of us should consume ripe bananas by discussing the benefits of this fruit. Individuals who eat ripe bananas can take advantage of the many benefits associated with them. Bananas are one of the few foods which can satisfy the requirements of 2 key food groups ie the Glow foods and the Go foods. Bananas are Glow foods because it contains key nutrients such as vitamins B & C & Potassium, and it is a Go food because it contains carbohydrates and provides a ready source of energy. Some of the key benefits of consuming ripe bananas are: 1. Bananas are a good source of potassium whether they are ripe or less ripe. Eating more potassium than the RDA can help prevent and regulate high blood pressure. 2. Eaten after 30 minutes of exercise, when muscle energy is exhausted, ripe bananas can improve stamina. They are also very good for energetic activity. Very ripe bananas are high in sugars and are equivalent to consuming 4 bottles of Lucosade. 3. Less ripe bananas counter constipation & ripe, sugary bananas help to relieve diarrhoea. The starch in less ripe bananas resists digestion, leading to bulkier faeces, easing constipation. Very ripe bananas are used for diarrhoea. 4. Ripe bananas may raise mood and help sleep.

Every person should consume fresh fruits because fresh fruits are easy to eat, tasty, easy to prepare and in some cases need no preparation as they can be consumed fresh, directly from the tree.
