1. Identify the basic needs of people: food, shelter and clothing;(Remembering) 2. Recognize the people who help in the daily needs of the Filipinos through character portrayal;(Understanding) 3. Explain how the different activities in the community foster unity and cooperation among the people and assist in the needs of Filipinos;(Analyzing) 4. Show the value of cooperation by simulating the different people who help in the community (V.I.) 5. Show respect to the community helpers by writing a letter; (V.I.) III. Subject Matter: PEOPLE WHO HELP IN THE COMMUNITY

Materials: FILIPINISM CD-ROM Pictures PowerPoint presentation IV. Procedure: Thursday (September 12) A. Motivation a. Ask the students to observe their surroundings and remember the things made by man. b. List down all the answers of the students on the board. B. Lesson Proper a. Help the students in grouping the man-made things written on the board under the 4 headings: Food, Clothing, Shelter, and Services b. Ask the students who are the people that provide the community these things. c. List down their answers under the correct heading. d. The students will begin filling out a KWL chart about community helpers with the guidance of the teacher. e. The teacher will inform the students that the L portion of the chart will be filled out upon completion of the lesson on community helpers. C. Assessment The teacher will name things that fall under Food, Clothing, Shelter, and Services and the students will classify them. Friday (September 13) A. Motivation a. Discuss the basic needs of a community: food, clothing and shelter. b. Each student will be given papers and task list. c. The papers contain the names of the community helpers who provide food, their pictures, and the products they give to the community. d. As they open the paper given to them, they will go around the class and look for their classmates who are holding papers that are related to theirs. They will form one group. (Example: fisherman picture of a fisherman- fish, seafood) B. Lesson Proper a. The group will arrange and paste on a manila paper the papers that they are holding. b. They will then explain to the class how this community helper gives food to the people. c. The teacher will clearly discuss how the farmers, fishermen, and the other people in the community help to provide food to the community after each group have presented. C. Assessment Answer Check Yourself on pages 136 and 137

Monday (September 16) A. Motivation a. Each student will be given papers and task list. b. The papers contain the names of the community helpers who provide clothing and shelter, their pictures, and the products they give to the community. c. As they open the paper given to them, they will go around the class and look for their classmates who are holding papers that are related to theirs. They will form one group. (Example: dressmaker picture of a dressmaker blouse, skirt, dress) B. Lesson Proper a. The group will arrange and paste on a manila paper the papers that they are holding. b. They will then explain to the class how this community helper gives clothing and shelter to the people. c. The teacher will clearly discuss how the dressmaker, carpenter, and other people in the community help to provide clothing and shelter to the community after each group have presented. C. Assessment The teacher will provide a description of each community helper who provides clothing and shelter and the students will choose among the choices if which picture fits that description. Tuesday (September 17) A. Motivation a. Each student will be given papers and task list. b. The papers contain the names of the community helpers who give services to the community, their pictures, and related keywords. c. As they open the paper given to them, they will go around the class and look for their classmates who are holding papers that are related to theirs. They will form one group. (Example: teacher picture of a teacher student, book, learn) B. Lesson Proper a. The group will arrange and paste on a manila paper the papers that they are holding. b. They will then explain to the class how this community helper gives service to the people. c. The teacher will clearly discuss how the teacher, doctor, and other people help the community after each group have presented. C. Assessment Answer Check Yourself on page 141 and page 144 letter B Wednesday (September 18) A. Motivation a. Prepare 4 graphic organizers for each kind of community helpers (those who provide food, clothing, shelter, and services) b. The students will paste on the board keywords that will complete the graphic organizer. B. Lesson Proper a. The teacher will summarize the things that were discussed for the previous days about the community helpers. C. Assessment List down 2-3 community helpers you meet every day that provide services or needs. Explain how each community helper gives you those needs. Thursday (September 19) A. Motivation a. Show two pictures of a family. One that is big and one that is small. b. Show a picture of a sack of rice. Ask the students which of the two populations needs basic necessities more and who provides those basic needs. B. Lesson Proper a. Using the illustration above, discuss to the class how people in a community help one another with their needs. b. Ask: What would happen if Filipinos who provide services to their countrymen would suddenly stop working? c. Using the FILIPINISM CD-ROM, have the class identify the community helper described in each slide. Ask them to stress the importance of each community helper.

d. Emphasize the cooperation among the people in the community and lead them to conclude that; Filipinos help one another to attend to their needs. C. Assessment Answer p. 144 letter C and Things I Will Do p. 145 Friday (September 20) a. The students will be grouped into 3 to prepare a short skit showing Filipinos who provide services to their countrymen. b. They should clearly introduce whom they are portraying and the service they provide to the Filipinos. c. They should also explain why people should help each other to meet their needs. Monday (September 23) a. Presentation of Role Plays b. Assignment: Performance Based Assessment # 2: Character Portrayal on Community Helpers (Monday, September 30) Students may choose what community helper they would like to portray. They must demonstrate and explain in 2-3 sentences (memorized) the basic need they provide and the importance of the community helper they have chosen. Please wear the appropriate costume

Tuesday (September 24) a. Presentation of Role Plays b. The students will finish filling out the KWL chart for the Learned portion. c. Identify some members of the pupils family who are helping in the community. b. Let them make a list. c. At the back of the paper, they will make a letter of thanks for that family member.
