English Lesson Plan Year 3 Theme Topic : World of Knowledge : Fresh Fruits

Set induction (5 minutes) 1. Teacher fills a large box with plastic fruits. 2. Teacher shows the box to the pupils and shakes it to rattle the objects inside. 3. Pupils pull out different objects out of the box and have the pupils hold the objects. 4. Finally, each pupil retrieve each object as the teacher calls out its name and put it back in the box.

Pre-teaching (10 minutes) Teach the fruit vocabulary 1. Teacher takes out the box and shakes it. Then, teacher opens the box and pulls out a fruit. Teacher asks Whats this? 2. Teacher elicits / teaches the name of the fruits Its an apple 3. Teacher mimes biting the fruit and chewing, and then say Yummy! 4. Then, teacher holds the fruit in front of each student to let them take an imaginary bite. Encourage them to say yummy! or even yuk! Repeat with the other fruit.

Teach structures What fruit do you like? and I like... 1. Teacher takes out the fruit and say Yummy! I like (apples)! 2. Teacher puts it to the right side and takes another fruit and does the same. 3. Next, teacher takes a fruit and say Yuk! I dont like (watermelons). 4. Teacher puts it to the left. Teacher repeats with the rest of the fruit until he/she has some fruit (likes) on the right and some (dislikes) on the left. 5. Teacher puts the fruit he/she likes in front of you and say I like apples, grapes, pineapples ... etc.). Then, the teacher asks a student What fruit do you like? Encourage him/her to say I like ... and list the fruit he/she likes. 6. Pupils are given a worksheet Find someone who... and they have to ask their friends to get the answer.

While-teaching (10 minutes) Bingo game 1. Teacher distributes a bingo card to each pupil. Pupils fill in the fruits in the bingo card. Teacher asks pupils What fruit do I like? and picks up a fruit from a box, saying I like... 2. Pupils crossed out the called fruits and pupils who get 5 correct crossed out words will win the game.

Play the fruit chain game 1. Pupils sit with the teacher in a circle. Teacher says a word (or sentence) and then the next pupil repeats that word and adds a new word. Pupil 2 then says the 2 words and adds another. For example: T: "apple" S1: "apple, pear" S2: "apple, pear, watermelon" S3: "apple, pear, watermelon, banana" etc.

Post-teaching (5 minutes) Quick Check 1. For each pupil, teacher checks one new word (e.g. holds up a fruit and asks "What's this?") 2. Pupils complete the fruit riddles.
