18 September 2013, Hong Kong - This Autumn, in response to the enormous growth in demand from its Asian clients, Sothebys will present a stellar line-up of sales and events in Asia. Thus far this year, global bidding activity of Asian collectors at Sothebys has already surpassed that of the whole of 2012. Our worldwide team has sourced some spectacular treasures which will now be offered in the Companys highest-valued Hong Kong sales series ever in October to celebrate Sothebys 40 years in Asia. In early December, Sothebys will also stage the first-ever major auction in Beijing by an international company. In parallel, the Company moves into high gear as a multi-channel art business by mounting a series of exciting selling exhibitions and events in Hong Kong, Beijing and Taipei. ******

Sothebys Hong Kong 40th Anniversary Evening Sale The distinguished Autumn 2013 Sale Series will be anchored by the eagerly anticipated Sothebys Hong Kong 40th Anniversary Evening Sale, on the 5th October, which will

combine the best offerings of Sothebys 20th Century Chinese Art, Contemporary Asian Art and Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art (separate release available). Highlights include two major works from the collection of Baron and Baroness Guy and Myriam Ullens de Schooten, renowned collectors and philanthropists based in Switzerland. Red Flag 1 (1971) (est. HK$45 60 million / US$5.8 7.7 million) is an important political realist work by Chen Yifei, and The Last Supper (2001) (pictured above; estimated in excess of HK$80 million / US$10.3 million) by Zeng Fanzhi is one of the most politically charged works of Chinese Contemporary art (separate release available).

The evening will also offer a remarkable group of seven museum-quality works by modern Chinese masters from A Distinguished Private Collection. These highly important paintings in oil by Sanyu, Zao Wou-ki and Wu Guanzhong, widely recognised as the most sought-after artists in modern Chinese art today, were created at seminal moments in their respective artistic careers. All of the works have been exhibited at major art institutions or museum exhibitions and will appear for the first time at auction or after a long absence from the market. Highlights include Zao Wou-kis 15.01.82 (triptych) (est. HK$68 90 million / US$8.7 11.5 million) and Sanyus Goldfish (est. HK$50 70 million / US$6.4 9 million).

The Magnificent Jewels And Jadeite Sale On 7 October The auction of Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite on 7 October will offer the greatest white diamond ever to come to auction, and the greatest round fancy vivid blue diamond on the market. The remarkable 118.28-

Carat, D-Colour, Flawless, Type IIa, Oval-shaped stone of Excellent Polish and Excellent Symmetry is the largest D colour Flawless diamond ever to appear at auction (est. HK$220 - 280 million / US$28 - 35 million). It is also the largest oval-shaped, D colour Flawless or Internally Flawless diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), and the first Dcolour diamond of this size ever to appear at auction in Asia - a testimony to the increasing importance of Hong Kong as an international jewellery auction centre.

The Premier Blue, a 7.59-Carat Round Brilliant-cut Internally Flawless Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond, is The Largest Round Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond Ever Graded By GIA (expected to achieve in excess of HK$148 million / US$19 million). No significant round Fancy Vivid blue diamond has ever appeared at auction worldwide thus making The Premier Blue a rare and exceptional gem [Separate release available].

Sothebys has also been entrusted with some remarkable collections and objects in various other categories, including wines, Chinese ceramics and works of art, fine Chinese paintings, works by early Contemporary ink masters and timepieces (separate release available).

Sothebys Selling Exhibitions And Events in Hong Kong, Beijing and Taipei
The company is further increasing its efforts as a multi-channel art business, and has mounted a series of selling exhibitions and events in Hong Kong, Beijing and Taipei as below; more to be announced.

HONG KONG SELLING EXHIBITIONS From Warhol, With Love a selling exhibition Through 24 September 2013 Sothebys Hong Kong Gallery From 12 to 24 September 2013, Sothebys Hong Kong will host a selling exhibition of Andy Warhol works, From Warhol, With Love, from S|2 - the private sale and gallery arm of Sothebys global Contemporary Art department, offering exceptional works of art through unique and important exhibitions throughout the world. Primarily devoted to the artists works on paper, this exhibition presents a rare opportunity to see a wide range of works that act as a window into the mind of the Pop genius. From Warhol, With Love will feature over 40 works, including some of the artists most highly

covetable themes such as the gold leaf shoe, Ladies and Gentlemen and flowers. Highlights of the exhibition include a rare folding screen and a view of Hong Kong from 1956.

The Eternal Spring - A Selling Exhibition of Contemporary Ceramics by Caroline Cheng 25 October to 3 November 2013 Sothebys Hong Kong Gallery From 25 October to 3 November 2013, Sothebys Hong Kong Gallery will present The Eternal Spring - A Selling Exhibition of Contemporary Ceramics by Caroline Cheng, featuring magnificent works by renowned Jingdezhen and Shanghai-based artist Caroline Cheng who extrapolates on the porcelain traditions of the past. Her Prosperity series features robes made of thousands of tiny handmade porcelain butterflies sewn onto burlap as she plays on the Chinese word for clothing, fu, which also sounds like the word for prosperity. Chengs reinvention of the tradition of tea drinking features in her wood-fired stoneware pieces, each with unique and innovative a porcelain slip to capture more of the tea flavour.

HONG KONG NON-SELLING EXHIBITIONS Awakening Spring: An Exhibition of Significant Works by Wu Guanzhong 3 to 7 October 2013 Exhibition at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre 10 to 18 October 2013 Extended exhibition of selected works at Sothebys Hong Kong Gallery In celebration of its 40th anniversary in Asia, Sothebys is privileged to present Awakening Spring: An Exhibition of Significant Works by Wu Guanzhong alongside the Hong Kong Autumn Sale 2013 (4 8 October 2013). The exhibition will feature an extraordinary collection of 40 ink paintings by the renowned modern Chinese master Wu Guanzhong created between the late 1970s and the mid-1990s, demonstrating the

evolution of his creative style - from figurative, semi-abstract to ultimately pure-abstract. All of the works come from the celebrated The Low Gallery - which boasts one of the most important private collections of Wus ink paintings in the world - most of which have been widely published and showcased in numerous exhibitions abroad.

BEIJING Auction, Selling Exhibitions and Events


Sothebys will hold a major series of events commencing on 28 November, which will include an auction of Modern and Contemporary Chinese art, selling exhibitions of Modern Masters, Age of Elegance, SOTHEBYS DIAMONDS, as well as an auction preview of highlights from the New York sale of Important Old Master Paintings. A series of educational symposia organised by Sothebys Institute will also be held to promote art appreciation. The third edition of Modern Masters A Selling Exhibition Early December Following the success of the inaugural selling exhibitions of Modern Masters in 2010 and in 2012* in Hong Kong, Sothebys is delighted to present the third edition of this series in Beijing. Past editions of Modern Masters have focused on Impressionist and Modern art, but for this edition we will be broadening the art historical context of the exhibition to include both earlier and later works. Age of Elegance A Selling Exhibition Early December Sothebys Hong Kong presented Age of Elegance, a selling exhibition of European Paintings, Furniture and Works of Art from the nineteenth-century at the Companys Hong Kong Gallery last November. The exhibition marked the first occasion Sothebys offered European decorative arts for sale in Asia. The second edition of this selling exhibition will be brought to Beijing, showcasing the artistic and technical excellence that flourished in the European decorative arts in the nineteenth century. (Details to be announced) Both selling exhibitions - Modern Masters and Age of Elegance - will travel to Hong Kong in January 2014.
