Abstract The main objective of this research was to determine the evolution of social perception towards the impoverished informal settlers caused by the Lina Law. The researcher aimed to prove the negative social perception towards the informal settlers, insufficiency of the Lina Law to their situations and how such law developed professional squatting. The research will begin with an introduction of the Lina Law, also known as the Urban Development and Housing Act of 1992, and its important provisions that would help in the study. It will be followed by a background on how the informal settlers started and grew in numbers with a comparison of how they are perceived today through surveys. A brief introduction to what a professional squatter is and why is it significant to this study. The methods used to acquire the necessary information for the study are by the means of surveys, past researches, news paper articles, and the Lina Law. A sample of the survey will be included for further reference. This study was conducted to help the people of the Philippines be aware of the informal settlements before in comparison to the growing numbers it has now and how it affects our social perception of the impoverished.
