Welcome
September 22 2013
Welcome to Unley Park Baptist today. It is great to have you with us. If you are new to Unley Park, we appreciate that it can be daunting to walk into a new church, so as much as we can, we want to help you feel at home here. In the pew in front of you please find a black folder that contains a white care card for you to complete. There is also a "Welcome Pack" available for you that, among other things, has a special Care Card for you to record your visit and for us to follow up any requests you make. All Care Cards should be "posted" as you leave the church, in the locked box on the table by the "Baptistry Door".

Just a Minute
In 1959 Australian Geoff Mack wrote the lyrics to "I've been everywhere", a song listing 94 Australian place names linked only by their ability to rhyme with each other. Heres one of the chorus Ive been to Wollongong, Geelong, Kurrajong, Mullumbimby, Mittagong, Molong, Grong Grong, Goondiwindi, Yarra Yarra , Bouindarra, Wallangarra, Turramurra, Boggabri, Gundagai, Narrabri, Tibooburra, Gulgong, Adelong, Billabong, Cabramatta, Parramatta, Wangaratta, Coolangatta, whats it matter? As we come to Church this morning, cant help thinking, where are you? Whats the name of the place where you find yourself today? Ive been to some strange places over the years. In the north of Tasmania is a little place called Nowhere Else. Its at the base of the mountains and the road going in doesnt go anywhere else! Maybe the name has to do with its location or maybe someone loved it so much that they wanted the world to know there was nowhere else like it! Then, a few years back I came across a place called Paradise. Paradise is a rural locality in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. It lies on the eastern side of the Dart River at the head of Lake Wakatipu, close to the settlement of Glenorchy. No need to guess what someone was thinking when they named this place! Both Nowhere Else and Paradise are spectacularly beautiful locations. But if you are driving through Central West NSW you experience an agricultural and mining region which sits on the Newell Highway and Mid-Western Highways. This area is known as The Shire of Bland. Those who have driven those highways understand that the early settlers didnt have to think very long before coming up with that name! Its easy to think all the happy people live in Nowhere Else, or Paradise and all the miserable people live in the Shire of Bland. Its easy to look around at those who are in a better place than us, either materially, geographically, financially or emotionally and think they are better off than we are. The Apostle Paul was in prison in Rome. How easy to look at those who were in Paradise and wish he was there. Instead he writes these amazing words..

Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has 13 actually served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout 14 the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the 21 Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear For to me, to live is Christ [Philippians 1:12-14;21] Is it just possible that whether we live in Paradise or the Shire of Bland, Jesus can redeem that place for Himself! We welcome people from all different places today. I have great news. Jesus wants to come to your place!! God Bless Neil

Love in Action
Operation Christmas Child is our Love in Action. Operation Christmas Child shares the gift of Gods love, world-wide, with children in orphanages, refugee camps, hospitals, schools, and remote areas. Each box is accompanied by a copy of the gospel and an opportunity to learn about Jesus. Please remember before you shop to read the flyer for gift ideas and prohibited items and remember that everything in the box must be brand new, no preloved things Boxes can be returned to UPbc or placed at the front of the church under the display All boxes need to be back by Sunday 20 October The boxes cost 50 cents each to produce so can you please leave your money in the container on the table? It would be very special if you could include a photo and a little note. Including the cost of $9.00 will cover all the shipping costs of your box. Please pray that your box will be a blessing to a child who will come to know Jesus because you cared. Thank you for helping us with Operation Christmas Child
