Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Today's Gospel sounds puzzling to contemporary readers, but it can be made less so by considering the economic
system which stands behind the parable. A steward is dismissed because he is squandering his master's property. He is called dishonest because he is not serving the interests of the rich man, his employer. In response the steward, in an attempt to ensure favor for himself among the rich man's debtors, brokers repayment of the rich man's loans by foregoing the interest and fees that had been levied to line the steward's pockets. It is this action, in which the steward puts aside his greed and takes the longer perspective in order to enhance his security, which is commended by the rich man. The passage concludes with three morals for the listeners. The first exhorts the listener to be prudent about the use of wealth. Like the steward in the parable, those who would follow Jesus must put transitory affairs in proper perspective. Christians should handle the affairs of temporal life with an eye toward eternal life. The second concerns trustworthiness. Those who can be trusted in small things can also be trusted in great things. If Christians handle money and other passing things responsibly, then they can also be trusted with the affairs of the Kingdom of God. KofC Soccer Challenge

The KofC Council 14773 will be holding a Soccer Challenge at 1 P.M. Saturday October 5th at the Augusta Soccer Park, and 1130 A.M. Sunday October 6th at the Fort Gordon Youth Services Soccer Field. It is open to all boys and girls, ages 10 -14, in the Augusta and Columbia County areas. All competitors must register using the official Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge Entry Form/Score Sheet. Insidious: Chapter 2
By Kurt Jensen Catholic News Service NEW YORK (CNS) -- Once again into The Further we go for "Insidious: Chapter 2," although we learn not much more about that astral plane than we did in the 2011 first installment of this fright series. Maybe director James Wan, who shares writing credits with Leigh Whannell, is still figuring out life after death. Anyway, The Further -- which two years ago we called "a reasonably ambitious Halloween house" between the world of the living and Paradise -is merely a darkened studio set with fog machines. Sometimes the righteous among the dolorously departed therein, needing light to spot their pals, carry Coleman lanterns -- sort of like Diogenes looking for an honest man. Lots of moaning goes on there as well. In the original, Wan and Whannell only sent one child, Dalton Lambert (Ty Simpkins) into this less-than -great beyond during one of his dream trances, and father Josh (Patrick Wilson) had to go after him. This time, Josh starts out occupied by a dead person's spirit, which sets up further spooky doings; up to four characters at a time, including Dalton, are Further-bound. You'd think the Lambert family might want to move out of their charming Victorian gingerbread house, or at least buy some WD-40 for all those creaking doors. But no, they stay to tough it out with the spirit world. Their place is haunted -- well, pestered by -- two demonic ghoulies. One, Parker Crane, was a serial killer known as the "Bride in Black" because he wore a wedding gown while slaying 15 people. Though dead, Parker (played by various actors and stunt people) continues to have anger issues because his mother (Danielle Bisutti) -- our other unfriendly ghost -- used to dress him up as a girl. No one tries any exorcising; baseball bats and fists are the preferred weapons for the finale in the basement. We also learn, thanks to a visit to a boarded-up hospital with an intact records room, that Parker was a Catholic. Happily, this informational nugget is not developed. Ghostbusters Specs and Tucker (Whannell and Angus Sampson) return for comic relief, and actress Elise Rainier -- whose character, medium Lin Shaye, was killed in the first film -- evidently signed a two-picture contract. The film contains physical violence, intense scenes involving children and fleeting profane and crude language. The Catholic News Service classification is AIII -- adults. FACILITY SCHEDULING POLICY

Chapel facility can be requested for religious activities and services within our parish. This series offers hope and healing, whether you have been divorced for years or weeks. It offers answers and guidance to the divorced/separated through an emotional healing and the power of forgiveness, and into a more vibrant relationship with Christ and the Church. A series of DVD presentations from "The Catholics Divorce Survival" by Rose Sweet addresses such important issues as Finding the Right Direction, Getting Through your Anger, Learring to Forgive, Dealing with Family, The church's teaching on Annulment,(It's not a Catholic Divorce), Handling Money Wisely and more. The DVD presentations are given by noted Catholic professionals and clergy. The healing power of Christ through His Church and the Sacraments will relate to your heartache and lead you to hope. This is not a therapy group, but is guided by trained peer facilitators who have similar life experiences and are willing to share their time and talent to help others. The Order has expanded the Knights of Columbus Essay Contest to all Catholic students in public, private or parochial schools in grades 8,9,10,11 and 12 during the current school year. The contest has also been expanded to go through the different levels of competition to the international level. The theme of the essay contest is The Importance of Religious Freedom. The contest opens the doors of young minds, enabling the entrants to be creative, thoughtful and introspective in their work. The 2012 National winner received $300. Also, laws and regulations from our governments can be contrary to our beliefs and threaten to force us to violate our conscience. VOLUNTEERS COORDINATOR (volunteer position)

St. Michaels Parish at Fort Gordon is looking for a dedicated, hardworking person, sensitive to the ways God calls and equips people for mission in daily life, to help the members of our congregation grow in both spirituality and in participation. Positive communication skills, including both quality listening skills and comfort with cold-calling, are a necessity! Ability to maintain open and often communication with parish volunteers. Duties will include, but are not limited to: - Establish and maintain relationships with congregation members and community organizations to assist the congregation in accomplishing its missional responsibilities. - Create and maintain databases of congregational member information such as skills and interests. Such databases may include some or all software such as Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Publisher. - Establish and oversee recruitment procedures to meet specific group needs for activities and functions of volunteers. - Evaluate the work of volunteers to ensure that work is of appropriate quality and that resources are used effectively. - Assist in the assimilation process of new members. Work with the Parish Life Coordinator to acknowledge, recognize, and support volunteers as well as recommend new directions for ministry. - Help connect members with existing ministries and programs within the congregation. - Report questions, comments, or concerns regularly to the Parish Life Coordinator. - Other duties as assigned by the Pastor and/or Parish Life Coordinator or as deemed necessary. Care Ministry Coordinator and Volunteers

We are looking for a volunteer to coordinate the Care Ministry and several volunteers who would like to help those parishioners in need. This ministry assists parishioners who are sick at home or hospital. The ministry coordinator is responsible for coordinating visits in consultation with the senior pastor and PLC. The coordinator will be willing to visit parishioners who request this assistance, share the Word of God and prayer with them, and offer Holy Communion at the time of visit. Pastoral Visitations
There is simply no place more appropriate than the home for pastors to interact with their parishioners in a personal manner. And this holds true whether such interaction is for the purpose of leading a person to Christ, reclaiming a lost soul, or offering support and guidance. For this reason, our Pastor, Father Joseph would like to start Pastoral Visitations to give parishioners the opportunity of meeting and knowing him. He would like to visit parishioners homes twice a week, so if you are interested in receiving the special visit of our Pastor, please contact the PLC Lola Rivera to schedule a Pastoral visitation @ (706) 791-4829, or plc@saintmichaelparishfg.org. Father Joseph is looking forward to visit your home, talk and pray with you and your family in earnestness and humility.

Matrimony
Arrangements for marriage preparation should be made at least six months in advance of the proposed date. If there has been a prior marriage that has not been annulled by the Catholic Church, more time may be required. Participation in a marriage preparation workshop/program is required. Initially, all requests of information should be directed to the Catholic Pastor at (267) 243-5861.

Confessions
Private confessions at St. Michaels are available for you before Mass on Saturdays 4pm and Sundays at 8am in the confessional box located in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, but also face-to-face and by appointment at your convenience. Confessions are available in Spanish when Father Joseph celebrates mass.

Adoration on Wednesday
Join us for adoration this coming Wednesday at 6:30pm. We meet every week to spend and dedicate an hour in Eucharistic Adoration. This is a great way to increase your faith and help you with your prayer life.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Contracts Available within our Parish

Catholic Youth Ministry Director. The Youth Ministry Director shall serve as the Youth Ministry leader for the Fort Gordon Catholic population providing vision and coordination for the parishs efforts in ministry to young people from 6th through 12th grades. Requirements included: Masters degree, being a Catholic in good standing and have received Confirmation, at least three years of experience in working with youth, and a letter of recommendation from his/her pastor. NOTE: This contract is not public yet. Parish Life Coordinator (PLC). The PLC shall oversee the general operations of the Parish Life Office. He/she performs in support of the senior Catholic Chaplain and the Catholic Pastoral Advisory Council. The incumbent serves as a resource to the Senior Pastor, parishioners and staff, and is responsible for administrative tasks.
