U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen and sailors hosted a Day of Remembrance at the World War II Memorial and Jonas Green Park Sept. 7 commemorating the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The day started with a ceremony at the World War II Memorial with Maryland State Senator John Astle and Maryland Delegates Herb McMillian, Ron George, and Cathy Vitale in attendance. Naval Academy Public Affairs Officer Cmdr. John Schofield gave the keynote address and Senior Chaplain Capt. Michael Gore led a moment of silence in remembrance of lives lost in the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. After the ceremony, members of the Midshipman Action Group began cleaning up the grounds at the World War II Memorial and nearby Jonas Green Park.

Midshipman 1st Class Jean Luc Currie is the fall semester brigade commander, chosen by senior Naval Academy leaders to lead 4,500 of his peers as the highest-ranking midshipmen.

All midshipmen and military personnel in dress uniform are admitted free of charge at the upcoming Annapolis boat shows in the Annapolis harbor. The U.S. Powerboat Show will be held Oct. 3-6 and the U.S. Sailboat Show will be held Oct. 10-14. For information, call 410-268-8828.

Mr. Set Momjian, a renowned collector of items of historical significance, will be the guest speaker at the NAWC luncheon Oct. 9 at the Bistro at South River. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the presentation at 11 a.m. His topic will be the history of his collections and memorabilia, including a scrapbook of vintage USNA postcards.
