    Bi-syndrome

    Bi-syndrome is caused by the attack of wind, cold, heat and damp pathogens blocking
    the meridians, with soreness and pain in muscles, tendons, bones and joints, numbness
    and heaviness of limbs, difficulty in moving, and swelling and heat in joints.

    Differential diagnosis: Patients with wandering Bi-syndrome may suffer from
    wandering pain without a fixed location, inflexible movement of limbs, thin and white
    tongue coating, and floating pulse. Patients with painful Bi-syndrome may suffer from
    cold and severe pain in muscles and limb joints aggravated by cold and alleviated by
    heat, white tongue coating, and wiry and tense pulse. Patients with fixed Bi-syndrome
    may suffer from soreness, pain and heaviness of joints with fixed location aggravated
    by rainy, windy and cold weather, inflexible limbs, numbness of skin and muscles,
    white and greasy tongue coating, and soft and moderate pulse. And patients with heat
    Bi-syndrome may suffer from soreness, pain, swelling and limitation of limbjoint
    movement, fever not relieved by sweating, yellow, thick and greasy tongue coating,
    and soft and rapid pulse. Rheumatic fever, rheumatic arthritis and myofibrositis
    recognized by modern medicine can be treated by the following methods.

    Treatment:

    Foot massage: The massage is applied to spleen (34), stomach (15), kidney (22), lung
    (14), lymph nodes (upper body, 39), lymph nodes (abdomen, 40), lymph nodes (chest,
    41), adrenal gland (21) and other correspondent reflecting areas of lesions on the
    limbs (Fig. 59).

    Foot acupuncture:
    1) Mefidianal acupoints: At J iexi (ST 41), Kunlun (BL 60), Pucan (BL 61), Shenmai
    (BL 62), J inmen (BL 63) and Shangqiu (SP 5) acupoints, a reducing technique is
    applied and the needles are retained for 20 minutes, and moxibustion after
    acupuncture may be applied to patients with Bi-syndrome, except those of the heat
    type.
    2) Extra acupoints: At Xiakunlun (EX-F 3) and Qiduan (EX-F 23) acupoints, a
    balanced reinforce-reducing technique is applied and the needles are retained for 20
    minutes, and moxibustion after acupuncture may be applied to Bi-syndrome patients
    except those of the heat type.

    External application of drugs:
    1) The powder of Wuzhuyu (evodia fruit) 31 gm and fresh ginger 3 gm is fried with
    alcohol and wrapped in a bag for application over the central area of both soles to
    relieve pain in lower limbs.
    2) Wuzhuyu (evodia fruit) 16 gm and one bulb of garlic are pounded to prepare a
