Holy Spirit Guidance or Spiritual Enemy Guidance?

(by Bill Stevenson)

Directions for Part 1: Try to see the links between the verses and determine the reasons why
they are in the order they are in. Also try to determine the reasons why
each line is indented in the position it is. Look for relationships of
coordinate and subordinate ideas. Finally, there are reasons why some
words/phrases are in bold print. Then write an essay about each.

1 Corinthians 10
12 Wherefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
13 There has no temptation (or test) taken you but such as is common to man;
but God is faithful,
Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able;
but will with the temptation (or test) also make a way to escape,
that you may be able to bear it.
Romans 8
26 Likewise The Spirit also helps our infirmities,
for we know not what we should pray for as we ought;
but The Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings
which cannot be uttered.
27 And He that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of The Spirit,
because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good
to them who love God,
to them who are the called
according to His purpose.
2 Thessalonians 2
1 Now we beseech you, brethren,
by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and by our gathering together unto Him,
2 that you be not soon shaken in mind,
or be troubled,
neither by spirit,
nor by word,
nor by letter as from us,
as that the Day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means;
for that Day shall not come, except there come a falling away first,
and that man of sin be revealed, the Son of Perdition;
4 who opposes and exalts himself
above all that is called God, or that is worshipped;
so that he as God sits in the temple of God,
showing himself that he is God.
5 Remember you not, that, when I was yet with you,
I told you these things?

6 And now you know what withholds that he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of iniquity does already work;
only He Who now lets will let, until He be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that lawless one be revealed,
whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth,
and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming.
9 The coming of the lawless one is according to
the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish;
because they received not the love of the Truth,
that they might be saved.
John 14
25 “These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But The Comforter (or Helper), which is The Holy Spirit,
Whom The Father will send in My name,
He shall teach you all things,
and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.”
John 15
26 “But when The Comforter (or Helper) is come,
Whom I will send unto you from The Father,
even The Spirit Of Truth, Who proceeds from The Father,
He shall testify of Me.”
John 16
7 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth;
it is expedient for you that I go away;
for if I go not away,
The Comforter will not come unto you;
but if I depart,
I will send Him unto you.
8 And when He is come,
He will reprove the world
of sin, and
of righteousness, and
of judgment:
9 of sin,
because they believe not on me
10 of righteousness,
because I go to my Father, and you see me no more;
11 of judgment,
because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you,
but you cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when He, The Spirit Of Truth, is come,
He will guide you into all Truth:
for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear,
that shall He speak; and He will show you things to come.

2
14 He shall glorify Me,
for He shall receive of Mine, and shall show it unto you.
15 All things that the Father has are mine,
therefore I said that He shall take of Mine, and shall show it unto you.”
Luke 8
9 And His disciples asked Him, saying,
“What might this parable be?”
10 And he said, “Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God,
but to others in parable that
seeing they might not see, and
hearing they might not understand.
11 Now the parable is this:
The seed is the Word of God.
12 Those by the way side are they that hear;
then comes the devil
and takes away the Word out of their hearts
lest they should believe and be saved.
13 They on the rock are they,
who, when they hear, receive the word with joy;
and these have no root,
who for a while believe,
and in time of temptation fall away.
14 And that which fell among thorns are they,
who, when they have heard, go forth,
and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life
and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 But that on the good ground are they,
who in an honest and good heart,
having heard the Word, keep it,
and bring forth fruit with patience.”
Hebrews 6
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ,
let us go on unto perfection
not laying again the foundation
of repentance from dead works, and
of faith toward God,
2 of the doctrine of baptisms, and
of laying on of hands and
of resurrection of the dead,
and of eternal judgment.
3 And this will we do, if God permit.
4 For it is impossible for those who
were once enlightened, and
have tasted of the Heavenly gift, and
were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and
5 have tasted the good Word of God and the powers of the world to come,

3
6 If they shall fall away,
to renew them again unto repentance;
seeing they crucify to themselves The Son Of God afresh,
and put Him to an open shame.
7 For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it
and brings forth herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated,
receives blessing from God;
8 But that which bears thorns and briers
is rejected, and is near to being cursed,
whose end is to be burned.
9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you,
and things that accompany Salvation, though we thus speak.
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love
which you have showed toward His name,
in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
11 And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence
to the full assurance of hope unto the end;
12 that you be not slothful,
but followers of them who through faith and patience
inherit the promises.
Ephesians 5
15 See then that you walk circumspectly,
not as fools, but as wise,
16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be you not unwise,
but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess;
but be filled with The Spirit;
19 speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 giving thanks always for all things
unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Romans 8
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk
not after the flesh,
but after The Spirit.
2 For the law of The Spirit Of Life in Christ Jesus
has made me free from the Law of sin and death.
3 For what the Law could not do,
in that it was weak through the flesh,
God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh,
and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us,
who walk
not after the flesh,

4
but after The Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh;
but they that are after The Spirit the things of The Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death;
but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God,
for it is not subject to the Law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh, but in The Spirit,
if so be that The Spirit of God dwell in you.
Now if any man (or woman) have not The Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin;
but The Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if The Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you,
He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies
by His Spirit that dwells in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if you live after the flesh,
you shall die;
but if you through The Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body,
you shall live.
14 For as many as are led by The Spirit of God,
they are the children of God.
15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear;
but you have received The Spirit of adoption,
whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit,
that we are the children of God.

Directions for Part 2: Answer the following questions based on what the previous Scripture
says.

1.) What are the qualities of the Holy Spirit and living in the Holy Spirit?
2.) What are the qualities of the devil and living by the flesh?
3.) Now how can you discern thoughts that come to your mind?

I postponed three projects for this one after I skimmed an article by Joyce Meyer titled
“who’s Speaking to Me?” Ironically, a man in the USA I have been discipling also had similar
wonderings about his thoughts. How can
