Coasties of The CROSS

Familiar Waters:
Take a Leap of Faith & Abandon Ship
Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. (Psalm 37: 3-7) It took me some time to find some verses that would hit on the importance of Faith & why faith is so crucial for Christians. I prayed on it & these words reached out to me (just like a man overboard reaches for a life ring). After reading the above verses over & over and there are a few keywords that stick out: Trust, heart, & patience. In order to have faith in the Lord, we must trust Him even when all the odds are against us. We have to know in our heart that as long as we are striving to do good by Him, He will always come through. All the time God is good & God is good all the time! Patience is the one thing that will keep you floating & a lack there of can cause you to sink. Stay calm & know that help is on the way. Conserve your energy for when you need it most. If you act too soon; (on your own & without God) you will pay the consequences you will ultimately grow tired, weary, & drown.

Stress is a sign of weak faith; because God will always respond even in the midst of the storm. So, hold fast & strengthen your faith. Be patient & really trust in your heart that the Lord will act & bless you unconditionally. If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you (Mt 17:20). +++ -AMEN & MAY GOD BLESS YOU SHIPMATES-

All Hands on Deck:
Will The Real Body of Christ, Please Stand Up?!
It doesnt matter if youre in D7 or D17, a YN or a BM, on a white hull or white sand, enlisted or an officer, active or reserve, or a spouse, friend, or family member. If we have received Jesus Christ as our Lord & Saviour we are the part of the body of Christ & for many the only glimpse of Jesus they will see in Coast Guard.

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal (Cor. 12:4-7). Somebody whos at a small boat station may have more one on one time & be able to share the gospel in a more personal way than somebody at a sector can. Somebody at a sector may have more chances to share the gospel than that of a smaller unit. Somebody whos a supervisor can influence subordinates in a way that others cant. Somebody whos lower on the chain can have a consistent influence that a supervisor cant. A husband or wife can reach other spouses, friends, & neighbors; when their other half cant. Somebody whos underway has a reach where others dont. Somebody with a good understanding of scripture can help another grow in Christ. All of these some bodies make up the whole body. But dont take my word for it; lets look at the word of God: For the body is not one member, but many (2 Cor. 12:12). But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him(2 Cor. 12:18). Nobody is more saved than anybody else & the qualifications arent all that hard. Be a sinner (easy enough) & receive the gift of God through Jesus Christ our Lord (check) (Rom 3:23). The last time I checked you didnt need the latest version of the Bible to be saved, it didnt matter what race you were, if you were a non-rate or an admiral, or if you could run fast, throw far, or have the ability to quickly calculate a GAR score in your head. If the Bible says we are of the same Lord, the same God, & the same Spirit why cant we open our arms to the same people we see day after day that are going to hell? Tell me this, how is it that you can ask someone to watch or play sports after work or eat chicken wings & they make time for it & they go out of their way to be there? But if you mention a Bible study or divine services, they are hesitant. If you try & talk to them about God, they are standoffish. If you invite them to church they dont go. Im talking about professing Christians. Ive come to expect this from the lost, but not from someone who claims to be a child of God. Which brings us to this thought: What is more important than Jesus? One song begs the question: If we are the body why arent His arms reaching? Why arent His hands healing? Why arent His words teaching? Why arent His feet going? Why is His love not showing them there is a way? Jesus is the way (the only way- John 14:6)!

Coasties of The CROSS

This is a great reflection but, I think we need to take it a few steps further... If we are the body? Why are His hands in His pockets? Why are His lips quivering? Why are His legs sprinting in the wrong direction? Why are His arms crossed & His backed turned; not only towards the lost, but towards each other & ultimately God.

Will we insist on being silent & not speaking out? Sitting down & not standing up for Jesus? The time is now, not then, not tomorrowbut now! This is a call to action If you are a born-again Christian today we are asking for the body of Christ to take a stand. In the Old Testament God called & Isaiah responded: Here am I; send me (Isa 6:8). In the New Testament Jesus spoke these two simple words to Matthew: Follow me (Mt. 9:9). Matthew arose, & followed Him without question, without complaint, without argument, or excuse (Mt 9:9). Right now, we may not think of ourselves as missionaries, but the Coast Guard is our mission field. Every day that our feet hit the deck we have the choice to say: Here am I; use her or use him. or we can say: Here am I Lord; use me. We can slow the body of Christ down by sitting right where we are or we can help it stand up, speak the truth, & follow the steps of Jesus. +++ Take a stand!

Basic Training:
Getting Over the Rainbow
What does the Bible say about homosexuality? It is a big topic in today's society. Especially, if you're on the so called "wrong" side of the argument; you risk being called names like bigot or homophobe. This tactic is used to intimidate or scare you from voicing your opinion on the subject, but isnt Gods opinion the one that matters? Lets see what He has to say: And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him (Gen 2:18). So God created a woman (Eve) to be with man (Adam) & in doing so God created marriage & the meaning of it. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh (Gen 2:24). God made marriage between a man & a women & it says so right here in Genesis. He could have just as easily created another man to be with Adam but he did not. That is why only a man & a woman can procreate. Think about it, if God thought that it was OK for two men or two women to get married, you would think that he would have created a way for them to have a baby. I can see that youre not convinced yet so let's look at the Bible some more. Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God (1Cor 6:9-10).

Here, we see the Apostle Paul speaking to the church at Corinth about a multitude of sins. Did you notice the list included homosexuality? The above verse was taken from the English Standard Version of the Bible. The Authorized Version or King James Version uses the word fornicators which is a little broader term for sexual immortality. The KJV is the supreme text, but this shows that the conservative fundamental Christians arent that only ones that see this as a sin. Whats more is that many so-called Christian churches who endorse same sex marriage, use the same new age text (ESV, NIV etc.) that preaches against it!?! Paul states that people who practice such sins will not inherit the kingdom of God. And let's not overlook the first words of verse 9: do not be deceived. Dont be deceived, in Pauls day homosexuality was considered an act of fornication.

Coasties of The CROSS

Today, the body of Christ is being deceived that God is going to allow gays\lesbians into his heavenly kingdom. Churches are accepting such sin that Paul clearly states that those people will not see heaven. The body of Christ is supposed to transform sinners not transform around sinners. There is a big difference there. Anyway, lets continue with Paul: Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband (1Cor 7:2). Did you notice Paul's words? Did Paul say: let every man have his own partner or every woman her own partner? No! He clearly stated that a man should have a wife & a woman a husband. Paul's choice of words is no accident but I can see you are still not convinced so finally let's look at what Jesus has to say about it. Yes, you are right if you thought "wait a minute Jesus didn't talk about homosexuality"?! He didn't speak directly about the topic, but he did reiterate God's stance on marriage. If you don't believe me then believe God: And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder (Mt 19:4-6). In the above verses Jesus was responding to a Pharisees question about divorce, but lets not blind ourselves to the simple truths in these verses. First Jesus states that God created men & women for a reason, then that a man shall leave his father & mother & cleave to his wife. Where have we read that before?? Correct! It was back in Genesis, when God not only created man & woman, but also defined marriage (Gen 2:24). You see Jesus didn't need to speak about the subject, because God's word was already clear & left no doubt as to the definition of marriage Jesus just reiterated it. Marriage is between a man & a woman. Anything else is a sin. You see Jesus did speak about homosexuality, just not directly (because He didnt need to). The Bible is crystal clear on the subject, just stand on Gods promises and proclaim the truth. You may have friends or family who reject these truths but, coming from a man whose mother is living in the homosexual lifestyle all we can do is: speak the truth in love & pray for them. Sure, you may be singled out and even called names but Gods opinion is what matter & He is the same today as He was when He first breathed life into the first man (Heb 13:8). +++ Remember: transform the sinner; don't transform around the sinner. God Bless!

From Creation --- to Revelation

Creation: Gods Word: Anything But Flat

The prophet Isaiah not only spoke about the end times; he also spoke of the universe from Gods perspective & this is anything but flat. Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?(Isa 40:21) Anyone who has been underway & stood before the high seas, has seen the works of God. These are majestic masterpieces that many will never see beyond the city lights ashore (sorry, landlubbers). Looking out at the ocean seeing the endless waves seeing the sun rise & set being at sea is really a sight to see. Of course, the sun does not actually rise or set. The term sunrise/sunset can be traced back to the days when sailors feared of falling off the edge of a flat Earth. Now, it is widely known that the Earth is not flat, but indeed a sphere in the form of a circle. The Bible implied this long before any man could: It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: (Isa 40:22). The book of Isaiah was written years 740 years before Christ walked the Earth & 2,232 years before Columbus sailed the ocean blue (Unger, 1975). Back in Isaiahs day the Hebrew text did not have the term sphere & the closest word to meet that was used & was translated as circle. The word compass or compassed is more than just a nautical term & is defined as: to encircle or to go around something. In the Bible this word is also used to describe Gods creation of the universe: When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: (Pvb 8:27). Right now you reading this while sitting on a circular planet that is spinning around in a circle & at the same time is circling around the sun which is circular star that is also spinning in a circle. We have come to find that whole systems of circular planets are spinning in circles & circling

around circular stars that are also spinning in circles. Whats more is that these solar systems make up whole galaxies & guess what? They are also spinning in circles! I am going to go out on a limb & say that God likes circles & that word of God runs circles around any man made theories or ideas. The latter part of the verse (that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in) is just as relevant. Is it ironic that todays society is constantly looking at evidence to prove that the universe is expanding? Maybe it is but what if we are failing to the bigger picture; either way there are several occasions where The Bible speaks about God stretching out the skies or the heavens (Job 9:8, 26:7, 37:18, Ezek 1:22, Isa 40:22, 42:5, 44:24, 45:12, 48:13, 51:13, Jer 10:12, 51:15, Ps 18:9, 104:2, 144:5, 2 Sam 22:10, Zec 12:1). See! We can only pretend to fathom just how big the universe actually is. It is estimated by the Hubble telescope that there are at least 70 sextillion known stars. Thats the number 7 with 22 zeros behind it. This is so many that in fact, that every person on planet earth could own 11 trillion stars & that is only the stars we know about! We dont know about the ones that we dont know about (Hovind, 2011). Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, (Isa 40:26). God created the Heavens & the Earth & all that is in them (Gen 1:1) & there is only one who makes the Earth revolve around the Sun. Just look around the evidence is everywhere & the same is in His word, from creation to revelation.

Revelation: The Course Ahead: Gog & Magog???

In the last days, the Bible tells us of a horrible event that will take place in Syria: The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap (Isa 17:1). This is the same Damascus that Saul (Apostle Paul ) traveled to when Christ first appeared to him, an event that transformed not only his life, but the course of human history forever (Acts 9:3-4). And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: (Acts 9:3).

Coasties of The CROSS

But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance (Acts 26:20).

Damascus is the oldest continuously inhabited city on the planet. This city has witnessed at least 5,000 years of human history. Damascus also just so happens to be the capitol of Syria. As you are aware (if you have read or listened to the news anytime in the last few weeks) there was a standoff between the U.S. & its allies & Syria & their allies. Right now it appears that Russia has called America's bluff & tension has died down a little, but lets take a look at this in a prophetic sense. If you know anything about Bible prophecy then youve probably heard of the war of Gog and Magog. It's a future war involving Israel in the book of Ezekiel. In this prophecy many countries unite to wipe out Israel. In this hoard of countries is the land of Magog, or what we would today call Russia. So its very interesting that it just so happened to be Russia, who warned America that an attack on Syria without UN backing would provoke Russian defense & military aid. Why is that interesting? ? ?? And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: (Ezek 38:4) If the fighting in Damascus somehow spills over into Israel, or a rocket from Syria kills Israelis, Israel could strike back. From there Damascus could be destroyed & the hooks would be placed into the jaws of Syria's allies, starting the war of Gog and Magog! I'm not implying that Damascus will be a ruinous heap anytime soon, but we can clearly see from Gods word that we are indeed living in the last days... And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet (Mt 24:6). In these last days we need to be grounded in the word of God, so we can understand the signs of the times and not be afraid.

Praise you, Jesus! We look forward to your return!

The Crews Lounge
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord (Col 3:16) . Are you tired of the sex, the violence, & the foul language the taking of Gods name in vain? I think if T.V. & the internet were around back then, that they would be included in the verse above. A Watch Worthwhile: The world loves to point the finger at God when all is woe & when all is good; it has no problem ignoring Him either. How many times have you heard Where is God in midst of all the tragedy & suffering? Unstoppable the new movie from Kirk Cameron, answers these questions & more as the film delves into the origins of good & evil.

Unstoppable was scheduled for a one night only showing (24Sep13) & quickly sold at all 700 theaters that carried the film. Ticket sales reported that it ranked #1 on the charts & dominated other secular blockbusters such as Insidious: Chapter 2 & The Family. The response was so great that an encore showing is scheduled for select movie theaters next Thursday 03Oct13, 7pm/1900 local times (Zahn, 2013). The response to the film shows that people are hungry for the word of God. Well, it just so happens that His word is in the Bible. This book has stood the test of time & has the answers you are looking for. The Bible doesnt always give the world what it wants, but what it needs. Movies can be a blessing, but nothing can replace Gods word.

Coasties of The CROSS

D. L. Moody had this to say about the Bible: The Bible sets forth two things-the cross and the throne. The Old Testament points toward the cross. The Gospels tell the story of the cross. The Epistles point toward the throne. The Revelation tells the story of the throne. The Old Testament tells us what sin leads to, and ends with the words: "Lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." (Mal 4:6). The New Testament shows us the way out of sin, and ends thus: "The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you all." (Rev 22:21). & this was found in the fly leaf of his personal Bible: This Book contains the Word of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy. Its precepts are binding; its histories are true, and its decisions immutable. Read it to be wise. Believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the travelers map, the pilgrims staff, the pilots compass, the soldiers sword, and the Christians charter. Here Paradise is restored, Heaven opened, and the gates of Hell disclosed. Christ is the grand object, our good its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of judgment. It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgments, and be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and condemns all who trifle with its sacred contents (Moody 1837-1899).

Rescue & Assist
Lost at Sea

Its a cold & windy night out on the water. A fierce storm has left you lost at sea. Your pleasure craft is damaged & is now taking on water. You are alone & desperate for help. The light from the old radio that you bought when you first purchased the boat gleams from the corner of the console. Would you not make a distress call on channel 16 when it is your only hope? Channel 16 on a marine radio can save your life, but it cant save your soul. However, John 3:16 says: For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. If you do not make the call, you cannot be rescued: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Rom 10:13). No matter how hard you try you cant save yourself: For by grace are ye saved through faith: and not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast (Eph 2:8-9). As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one (Rom 3:10). For the wages of sin is death, but (Rom 6:23 a) But it doesnt have to end here. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom 6:23 b). Turn from the waves of this world & turn to the Saviour: ...Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand (Mt 3:2). ...except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish (Lk 13:3). Jesus saves souls. God freely gave His son to redeem us from sin & the death that comes with it . The course to salvation is simple: Admit that you are a sinner & are unrighteous before God, make the call, repent, & turn to Christ. From that point on your life will never be the same again.

It doesnt end here (dont sit dead in the water). Once you are saved find a good Bible belie ving church, (believe me this can be harder than it sounds) start reading the Bible to grow in Gods word, & pray constantly (God wants to hear from you). Hold fast to the gospel & dont let the waves of this world bring you down. The good news is that Jesus has overcome the world & we can have victory through Him (Jn 16:39). If you have any questions or have just made a call of faith please contact Coasties of The Cross (via our Facebook Page or Coastiesofthecross@yahoo.com ). May God bless you & give you grace!

The Watch

Its a cold & rainy night in the comms room & it has been quite for hours. As your watch drags on you grow ever more weary & tired. Then out of nowhere, you hear what appears to be an S.O.S. call coming through channel 16: - - - Then beneath the static, you hear a frantic cry for help. You know someone is out there in need Would you not answer the call & let them know that they can indeed be saved? Channel 16 can aid in saving lives, but it cant save souls. However, Romans 1:16 says: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth Will you remain silent & hope that someone answers or will you key up & answer the call? Anyone can hear the call, but hearing is not enough:

be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves (Ja 1:22).
Dont let interfering signals (the flesh & this world) distort your transmission: What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid (Rom 6:15). Know how to respond: Whether we realize it or not, the Coast Guard is our mission field & we need to reach out to others who need to be rescued from sin & the death that comes with it. Be prepared: carry a small New Testament Bible, tracts, or memorize some of the verses on the previous page.

+++
One of the 1st things they teach when answering distress calls is to get a position. 1st you must know where you are before you can help someone else. Youve made the call to the Saviour in the past but youre in the same boat you that you always were & your position hasnt changed.

Coasties of The CROSS

When you abandon ship & take Christ: your position changes. Everything changes; nothing is the same. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Cor. 5:17). Your mission changes: That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God (1 Pet 2:4). Jesus said: Ye shall know them by their fruits (Mt 7:16). Salvation is more than just a prayer; its a surrender to God. Some people claim Christ but, wouldnt be caught dead in the same boat with Him. If you are saved you want to seek God, maybe youll get off course. But the conviction & desire are still there. You may even ignore it but, it is still there. If your want to didnt change You probably didnt get saved. If youre unsure or if you dont know then the answer is most likely No. Ive been there. Make today the day: Abandon ship & take the hand of Jesus--- His grip will never let you sink. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one (Jn 10:28-30).

+++
Maybe you have took the Saviours hand & there is no doubt that you are Christs, but youve gotten distracted & are now off course. Even the saltiest of Christians can get off course. After Jesus rose, His disciples went back to fishing for fish instead of men. It took a visit from Jesus Himself to get them back on course (Jn 21). The term backslidden has been used when Gods people get off course. If there was ever a time in your life when you were closer to God than you are today, then you are backslidden. If so, get back on course let & Jesus be your guide. The Bible should be our beacon, chart, & compass. Our comms should frequently be made to God. Dont get caught up in the waves of this world; remember Jesus has overcome the world (Jn 16:39). Hold fast to the His faithful word & stand a taught watch! These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world (Jn 16:39).
