DLT2 Lap timer information

(firmware version 1.32)
1. Connectors

The two female connectors are for the wheel speed sensor and IR sensor.
They are both wired the same way:
Pin 1: Wheel speed sensor input
Pin 2: Sensor Ground
Pin 3: Sensor Power (+12V)
Pin 4: IR sensor input

The male connector is for power and RPM input:

Pin 1: RPM signal
Pin 2: Ground
Pin 3: Power (+12V)
Pin 4: RPM ground

The RPM signal input is normally connected to the ECU rpm signal and RPM ground to
ground somewhere close to the source of the RPM signal.

In the power/RPM cable, RPM signal is brown, Ground is white, Power is blue and RPM
ground is black.

2. LED display

The display is used to show both lap times and user selectable information. The lap timer
works like a conventional lap timer by showing the lap time in the right display and the
lap number in the left display when the car passes the IR beacon. However, after a few
seconds (this is programmable) the display switches to display user selectable
information. This is normally current-lap-vs.-best-lap-time-delta and speed (this can be
changed in Advanced setup, parameters P12 and P13).

3. Buttons

There are four buttons used to control and program the lap timer - Exit/Setup, Left
Mode/Down, Right Mode/Up and Lap Time/Next. The functionality of the buttons
depends on if the lap timer is in “street mode”, “track mode”, “lap review mode” or
“setup mode”.

If both Exit and Next are depressed for about 3 seconds the lap memory is erased and the
timer is reset. This will also erase any saved persistent predictive timing information.
4. Display modes

Street mode:
After power-on the unit will show firmware revision for a second and then the display
changes to become a digital dash, showing speed on the left display and RPM on the right
display. This mode is called “street mode”

Track mode
When a beacon hit is detected, the timer will enter “track mode”. In this mode the right
display will show current-lap-vs.-best-lap-time-delta, i.e. the time delta between the best
lap in the session and the current lap (this is described in more detail below), while the
left display shows speed. Every time the vehicle passes the beacon, the display will show
the lap time and lap number for 5 seconds and then return to show best time delta and
speed. (All this assumes default values in advance setup, see Advance setup below.)

The user can at any point enter lap review mode or setup mode as described below. The
unit will return to normal display when a beacon hit is detected or when the Exit button is
pressed.

Lap review mode:

Lap display mode is entered by pressing the Up, Down or Next button. Next will show
the best stored lap time. The Up and Down buttons are used to scroll through the stored
lap times. The Exit button will return the display to show “live” information (i.e. speed,
predictive lap time etc.).

Next: shows the best lap time

Up, Down: scrolls through the stored lap times
Exit: return to normal display mode

Setup mode:
Setup mode is used to set timer parameters specific to the vehicle and beacon. Setup
mode is entered by pressing the Exit/Setup button for about 1 second. When setup mode
is entered, the left display will show P1 and the right display will show the data value for
parameter 1. In setup mode, the Up and Down buttons are used to increase or decrease
the parameter data value, the Next button will move to the next parameter value and the
Exit button will exit setup mode. The Up and Down buttons will repeat (at an increasing
rate) if held down for more than a second.
The lap timer is still running while in setup mode so it’s possible to change a parameter
while the timer is running.

Up: increase parameter value

Down: decrease parameter value
Next: cycle through the common parameter values
Exit: exit setup mode
Advanced setup mode:
Advanced setup is used to change advanced timer-specific parameters. Advanced setup
mode can only be entered at power up by holding the Exit/Setup button while the unit is
powered up. When advanced setup mode is entered, the left display will show P9 and the
right display will show the data value for parameter 9. Just as in setup mode, the Up and
Down buttons are used to increase or decrease the parameter data value, the Next button
will move to the next parameter value and the Exit button will exit setup mode. The Up
and Down buttons will repeat (at an increasing rate) if held down for more than a second.

Up: increase parameter value

Down: decrease parameter value
Next: cycle through the advanced parameter values
Exit: exit setup mode

5. Setup parameters

P1: Beacon Select

1: Hot lap beacon
2: AIM lap beacon (default value)

P2: Vehicle travel distance per wheel speed sensor pulse

Distance (in inches) that the vehicle travels for each wheel speed sensor pulse
(Must be set for correct speed display, default is 72.22)

P3: Shift light #1 RPM turn-on value (default is 6700)

P4: Shift light #2 RPM turn-on value (default is 6800)

P5: Shift light #3 RPM turn-on value (default is 6900)

P6: Shift light #4 RPM turn-on value (default is 7000)

P7: Shift lights flashing RPM value (default is 7100)

P8: Engine type

1: ½ pulse per revolution
2: 1 pulse per revolution
3: 1 ½ pulse per revolution
4: 2 pulse per revolution (default value)
5: 2 ½ pulse per revolution
6: 3 pulse per revolution
7: 4 pulse per revolution
8: 5 pulse per revolution
9: 6 pulse per revolution
6. Advanced setup parameters

P9: Lap display time (after detecting a beacon hit):

0: disable the display of user selectable information (i.e. only show lap times)
1 – 255: The time (in seconds) that the lap time is displayed after a beacon hit
(5 is default value)

P10: Beacon blocking time

0 – 255: The time (in seconds) that the IR sensor is blocked after a beacon hit
(10 is default value)

P11: Max track length (in miles)

This parameter is used to optimize the predictive lap time function.
Shorter max track length will increase the frequency of predictive timing updates.
(Safe value is 4.5 miles, the longest track in US)

P12: User selectable information on the time display in “track mode”:

0: Elapsed time in the session since first beacon hit
1: Running lap time
2: Best lap time in the session
3: Last recorded lap time
4: Current lap vs. best lap time delta (default value)
5: Predictive lap time
6: Engine RPM

P13: User selectable information on the lap display in “track mode”:

0: Speed (default value)
1: Engine RPM
2: Elapsed time (can be reset by pressing Exit when it is shown)
3: Current lap vs. best lap time delta
4: Predictive lap time
5: Total laps stored in memory

1: 1 (default value)
2: 2

P16: Advanced functions enable bits

0: Advanced timer functions disabled (default value)
1: Display mode change enabled (using Left/Right mode buttons)
2: Persistent predictive timing enabled (timing info saved between sessions)
3: Display mode change and Persistent predictive timing enabled
7. Current lap vs. best lap time-delta

The current lap vs. best lap time delta display will show how the vehicle is doing on the
current lap compared to the best lap in the session. It’s doing this by comparing the
current lap timing with recorded information from the best lap. The first time after
passing the beacon, the timer will start record timing information as reference data.
During this time the display will show -.-- indicating that it’s in recording mode. For
subsequent laps, the time for the current lap is continuously compared to the recorded
time information and the difference is shown on the display. If the current time is better
(i.e. less) than the recorded time (indicated by a - sign on the display), then that time will
become the new reference time for subsequent laps. The display is updated
approximately every 60 feet of vehicle travel. The recorded reference time information
is lost when the power is turned off (unless persistent predictive timing is enabled, see
Advanced setup, parameter P15), i.e. each session will start with generating new
reference data.

8. Lap memory erase

The lap times stored in memory can be erased by pressing the Exit button and Next
button for three seconds. This will also erase any saved persistent predictive timing
information.

9. Specification

Lap memory: last 115 laps

Max lap time: 9min, 59.99 seconds
Max Elapsed time: 9 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds
