Agenda: 1. Dream concept of our Chancellor the Diploma Program 2. To look into the Teaching Circles concept. The meeting commenced at 03:00 P.M with a welcome note by Area Chair Dr. V V Gopal.

Discussions: Agenda 1-Dream concept of our Chancellor the Diploma Program Dr. Gopal spoke about the dream concept of our Chancellor- the Diploma program which will commence from 15th November, 2013. He explained that the program needs the faculty involvement on two dimensions Preparing PPTs and Lecture notes Teaching

A faculty member has the choice to either prepare the Lecture notes or opt for Teaching or take up both activities (preparing the lecture notes and also teach). He also informed that while the quantum of remuneration has not yet been finalized, the Chancellor has informed that remuneration will be given separately for both the tasks viz. preparation of PPTs / Lecture notes and Teaching Other information and suggestions given by Dr. Gopal are as follows The duration of the program will be 90 hrs. The program would consist of 3 hrs. session one day a week (time: 06.30 09.30 pm) He asked faculty to volunteer for preparing the course material initially and thereafter the allocation of papers could be decided: o Dr. Sudarshan Seshanna has chosen both (preparing notes and teaching) for Retail Management paper. o Dr. Vasanth Kiran - Teaching for Marketing Management & Sales and Channel Management. He suggested giving one month course content in advance to the students. Teaching contents should match their IQ level. Lecture notes should be given in forms of PDF format and PPTs. Content should be more descriptive, more examples should be given, theory should be less. Corse content and course outline should match.

Dr. G R Narayanan informed that he has already done substantial work relating to the preparation of course outline and teaching notes etc. He has also given a CD of the program with all details to Area Chair. It was decided that faculty would go through the material prepared by Dr. G. R. Narayanan and with his help revise the same and submit to Area Chair.

Agenda 2- To look into the Teaching Circles concept Dr. Gopal stressed that the concept has to take off at the earliest and requested Dr. G. R. Narayanan to initiate the process immediately to which he agreed. Dr. G R Narayanan suggested the need to relook into the course outline of a few subjects as there appears to be an overlap in between those courses like International Marketing & International Business Business Research & Market Research

Dr. G R Narayanan suggested doing some modification in the title of the courses. To illustrate he cited the following two examples: Instead of Marketing Strategy for Competitive Advantage we can rename the paper as Marketing Strategy Instead of Consumer Behavior and Social Media it can be renamed as Consumer Behavior.

Another suggestion was that the textbooks need to be revised. The Teaching Circles would have to work on this aspect also. The meeting concluded at 04:00 PM with a note of thanks by Dr. Gopal.

Dr.V.V.Gopal
