Tips from the Fashionista:
Purchase classic over trendy items. Cashmere.
This may be the pricier item, but hey, its cheaper in the long run! Its your friend. This fabric adheres to any season! In all seriousness, a cashmere cardigan is appropriate in all colors and can be worn in most situations.

Knee length dresses.

Play with silhouettes. I personally like to buy A-line dresses I can wear at a picnic on the weekend and then to work during the week.

Opaque tights.

Any color! Note: when in doubt, wear neutrals.

Black, high waisted trousers. Mens button down shirt.

Heels are a must. Perhaps a ballerina bun, too. Tucked in a high waisted skirt or over leggings for a relaxed look. I personally like to steal from my brother as we share the same complexion.

Simple Accessories with Indulgences.

Accessory speaking, I like to keep things minimal and splurge on simplistic silver jewelry that go with anything. I do, however, treat myself to fun and trendy jewelry each season so I dont feel left out of Vogue.

Wedges.

A pair of sky-high wedges win over a pair of flats any day.

A nal piece of advice I ultimately began adhering to myself is, you have to keep in mind that if you dont love it, dont buy it!

Instant Spring Makeover:

armer weather brings a dose of vitamin D to the body, naturally producing a sense of well being. It also brings all the spring fashion out full force, which is super exciting. Until, that is, you put on your favorite sundress, look in the mirror and see a pasty ghost in the reflection. Sun-kissed skin flatters not only your clothes but your self confidence. With that said, we also dont want harmful rays that cause damage to our beautiful skin. Here are a few products that will boost your bronze, without damaging side effects. We also want to remember to always use rub on sunscreen that has a SPF over 30 to ensure a healthy glow while enjoying the sun. Get your glimmer on ladies!

Beauty Tips pring is here, which means shorts, tanks and S sundresses are not too far away. Dont freak out if you added a couple lb.s to your look, editor Kristine Mileson shares her secrets to a Svelte body. Her trainer, Joel Harwood introduced weight training to her work out, which burns calories and fat even after the workout is complete! Start with a comfortable weight to learn proper form and progress with extra weight and reps. Add these seven easy lifts in twice a week to sculpt a perfect bikini bod. Goblet Squat (left) Hold weight at chest at upright, straight position. Sink down, keeping back straight and knees out like you are sitting in a chair. Push off heels and pop to upright position. Preform three sets, ten reps each. Deadlift (right)
Stand straight holding two dumbbells at sides. Keeping back straight, squat down in chair position. Make sure arms stay as even with the body as possible. Preform three sets, ten reps each.

Mileson talks

After two and a half years at The Art Institute of Seattle, I feel that my time as a student has come to an end gracefully. Throughout my entire life as a student, which has been a total of around eight years, I have never grown more intellectually, emotionally and professionally than at AIS. During these years, I have committed myself to put in all of my creative energy and into projects, assignments and papers. Dont get me wrong, there were a few classes here or there that I simply managed and did not quite give my full best to. I believe that there is a lesson to that, to give what you can to all aspects in life but give passion to the areas that sincerely matter. Sometimes, it is wise to look at the bigger picture and try not to sweat the small, trivial situations. Other than just school, I have met a few of the most amazing, powerful and incredible women. I have made friendships and bonds that are so strong and they will always be a part of my life. That, in itself, is one of the most valuable blessings I have received by going to school at The Art Institute. Before I attended The Art Institute, I received my certificate in Publishing Arts. I feel that in the long run, it helped me have a heads up in the fashion department. I was lucky to receive a full year of training in Adobe software, as well as other valuable creative and articulate information. It made me feel that I had an obligation to myself to always try my best and put an emphasis on producing high quality work. If I didnt, I felt like I was cheating myself. I am also a pretty big perfectionist, especially in my artwork, so meticulousness was always in the shadows of my studies. It was not until I came to the Art Institute where I found my voice. I always knew I was a leader but it had been put on the back burner for several years. Past life experiences throughout that time only made me more of a shrinking violet. I knew that the potential was inside me and I always try to work at something when I see potential. Sometimes that trait was more of a personal demise, rather than a constructive part of growing. I also feel that becoming an asset to myself has been an uphill battle. It takes a lot to love yourself but when you finally do, life happens. I found love for myself and my life started happening. Fashion is such a beautiful part of life and I am so proud to say that I learned so much more than I had ever thought existed. There were a few designers I knew beforehand, and I had an appreciation for the garment industry but I never took into account to all that is involved. I will always hold fashion at a high level because it takes such a tenacious soul to be a part of the tight niche world. I believe my eyes, ears, knowledge and senses are heightened and tightly adjusted after studying it for over two years. It has made me a more colorful person and it still holds true that I believe that fashion is an artistic expression. It is a walking canvas and one of the creative outlets that brings such a bright light to the world. For my last quarter approaching graduation, I made a conscious choice to be selfish. If you ask anyone in my inner circle, they will say I am far from selfish but I use this word as a positive. I wanted to showcase me. Sharing my creative skills and knowledge to the people who have watched me grow is very special to me. I want to make them all proud. More importantly, I want to stay true to who I am and what I am all about. I want to stand at portfolio proudly, sharing my journey to the end of my student life chapter. It would be silly to say that I am not extremely nervous about leaving a life that I am so comfortable with. Change is never easy. It is challenging and I am glad to say that I have accepted the challenge to start my new life chapter as a professional. I finally feel like a grown up at 28 years old. I have blossomed into a different person from the time I started at AIS. I finally feel like me. C

Designer Grandeur

Up & Coming: Meet Lina Zeineddine

L

You can create anything, be anything you want. Limitless.

ebanese designer, Lina Zeineddine, is well known for her use of beautiful fabrics and unique detail in design. Working in custom designs, her talent to manipulate fabrics is defined within every creation for each individual. In 2011, Lina launched the very first Lina Zeineddine ladies shoe collection, which she will carry in several boutiques located in Seattle, LA, New York, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai! The key to her creations are bold elegance with lasting quality and comfort. Working with fashion is a way to fully and freely express her dreams, beliefs, and aspirations. Lina is inspired by everyday events of life and the belief of conveying our true identity. She lives by her quote, Passion for an everyday purpose, and these are the very words which stem from her love and devotion in the birth of each and every masterpiece. Editor Kristine Mileson sat down with Lina and inquired more about this talented designer.

Kristine: You were born in Shoof, Lebanon and have said that has been a major factor to your fashion influence. Why? Lina: I moved away when I was only 3 years old and a lot of confusion of who I was haunted me. It wasnt until I was 15 years old that I traveled back with my father and I had an ah hah moment in my aunts boutique. I was watching a fashion show and as I felt myself entranced with the flowing beige and pink chiffon adorned on the strong and passionate model walking down the runway. My father leaned over and said, To be a designer is to have limitless skill and success. You can create anything, be anything you want. Limitless. I felt the greatest sense of freedom, I never looked back after that. Kristine: Wow, what an inspirational story! What would you tell others who are doubt themselves or are lost? Lina: My personal experience taught me that as humans, we fear and judge our own expressions and those of others, out of fear of being judged ourselves. I would tell them to step back and look at the big picture that enraptures their life and what aspect makes them truly happy. Follow that! Kristine: I heard you are opening a brick and mortar boutique in Seattle and all the Svelte readers are begging me to get the address. Where will you be located? Lina: I will be opening my shoe boutique in North Seattle, right over by Northgate Mall. I am so excited to have a store and cant wait to get ladies in the Northwest in my shoes. They deserve it. Lisa Hunter, owner and designer of Vian Hunter House of Fashion, is bringing the allure of classic silhouettes of the 50s and 60s to Seattleites. Originally located in San Francisco, Hunter has always had a love for old Hollywood starlets and vintage goods. As we go on a journey through a day in the life of a modern day Audrey Hepburn, the magic of the retro style is obvious. Breakfast at Tiffanys never tasted so delicious.

Peter Czar

Putting on the Glitz

Born and raised in Las, Vegas Nevada, Peter Czar was meant to shine in the fashion business. Approaching graduation, Czar is ready to get his designs known, which doesnt look like it will be hard to do. His plans are to move to the Big Apple, where his dreams of becoming the next Micheal Kors or Diane Von Furstenburg will start. The truth is, that Czar has already started his dream of becoming a renown fashion designer. His upcoming fall line is hitting the runway March 8th at The Rite of Spring Fashion Show, produced by his college The Art Institute of Seattle. His fall collection gives a nostalgic vibe of The Great Gatsby era, filled with flirty silhouettes, luxe faux fur and feminine movement. To dig a little more into the innovative designers mind, editor Kristine Mileson sat down and asked some personal questions. Kristine: What inspires your designs? Peter: I am inspired by architecture, classic actresses, music and history. I like blending modern trends and fabrics with classic silhouettes, to create visually interesting and timeless pieces.

for his fall 2012 collection

Kristine: What would you say your biggest defining moment has been this far? Peter: One of the biggest defining moments so far in my life was doing the study abroad in Paris. Walking the streets, discovering new designs and attending fashion shows made me feel like I had finally chosen the right career path.

Kristine: I bet you loved the Oscar nominated Midnight in Paris! So what would be your dream career? Peter: Yes, darling. That movie was beautifully done! My dream career would be to own my own luxury lifestyle brand based out of Manhattan. I would love for my store to be a shopping destination, in that customers can feel at home and find pieces that they can pass down to family. I will always want to have a huge part in every aspect of the brand to ensure it keeps up with my demand for quality construction and materials.

Kristine: Looks like you are heading in the right direction. So if I were to see your future collections as I was walking down Madison avenue, what would they portray? Peter: My designer style is a mixture of 1920s-30s and modern elegance. I like to take the bohemian feel and put a professional spin on it. Kristine: Sounds like I would be an avid customer. Who is your inner designer? Peter: My inner designer is the product of what would come from a love child of Michael Kors and Elie Saab.

Kristine: (laughs) I can envision that. And your muse? Peter: Why, the lovely Vy of course! She is such a doll and fits my sample sizes lovely. I would also have to say Florence Welch from the band, Florence + the Machine. She takes risks with fashion and encompasses the classically beautiful woman with a bohemian modern edge. Kristine: What is your definition of fashion? Peter: Fashion is a means of self-expression; its a medium to blend culture and art on ones body. C 25
