People always tend to imitate which is the easisest of all, everybody even though he is an idoit knows if he jumps of 15 storey building he will not live an another day , jumping from 15 storeys was a thing of past have you seen movies..name one movie where you havent seen a hero pestering a gal to love him and everybody in the cinema hall waits for her to accept not even a single soul says what the heck , if a guy who is well educated and has good family background anticipates gal agrees the hero , think about the impact on a illiterate guy who does not come from good family background....you gave an example of US..I lived in US for 5 years and have seen how movies have impacted the youth there...havent you heard of shootings , havent you heard about copy cat killers...its worse there...understand the realities...we are the same people who made silver jubliees out of movies which are suposed to be called love stories but when u see them they just teach 3rd grade shi***...not blaming movies for everything...but they play a major role in these things....

r Aiyar, I'm your fan. I love most of the things you write. Primarily because they are insightful, and contrary to the popular grain of the day. However, in this article you've completely lost it. It's just a trap you've fallen into, the trap of popular misconception. It's not films which encourage people to stalk or molest. Films also show a hero jumping off a 15-storey building and landing straight on a truck. When have we heard anybody complaining that such scenes should stop because it's encouraging society to jump off buildings...? Have you heard one such complaint in your life...? If you haven't, I'll tell you why. Because when you jump off the building in real life, the penalty is instantaneous -- you either break all your bones, or you're dead. And every single person, adult or child, knows that. The reason stalking and molesting gets encouraged in real life is not because it was shown on reel-life, but because the reality check of the instantaneous penalty is missing. Just start punishing every single stalking and eve-teasing and molestation with a harsh punishment swiftly and without fail, and you'll see that no matter how often you show it on films, nobody will dare do that in real life. In the US, there are strip clubs every few blocks in cities. That does not lead to this level of sexual violence outside of those (or even within those). You know why...? -- everybody knows that there are bouncers around to give you an instant knock, and the police just a call away, with no escape from the law. In western films, even from very eminent filmmakers like Stanley Kubrick, Bernardo Bertolucci, Jean-Luc Godard etc, you'll see a far higher degree of explicitness, nudity and even violence, than in any Indian film. That hasn't led to the whole society in the west becoming predatory. The reason it is so in India, is not because of the films -- but because of the fact that law enforcement here is toothless.
