Flu shots continue at the Valley County Courthouse, and receiving one today was Valley County Courthouse Custodian Bob Steele. Administering the influenza vaccine was Vickie Bell, Director of the Valley County Health Department.

Made of Steel?

The good news is that flu shots will continue for anyone needing one on Thursday, October 3rd from 2:00-4:00 p.m.; Wednesday, October 9th from 2:00-4:00 p.m.; and Thursday, October 10th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Now for the sad news: our local health department will be without Vickie after this Friday, October 4th as she is off on a new venture and has accepted the position as Director

of the Roosevelt County Health Department. I was ready to take on a new challenge in my career, she explained of her decision. But we have an excellent department here in Valley County and an excellent staff to continue on in my absence. Also, the Valley and Roosevelt county health departments have worked together in the past, and having Vickie just 50 miles down the road will ensure that this close tie continues. There will be a party for Vickie Bell at the Glasgow Elks Club on Friday, October 4th from 5 to 7 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to stop by and thank her for her 30-plus years of dedicated service in the Valley County Health Department and to wish her the best.

replied, its going to be a very cold winter. The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of wood they could find. Two weeks later he called the National Weather Service again. Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold? Absolutely, the man replied. In fact, its going to be one of the coldest winters ever. How can you be so sure? the Chief asked. Because, the weatherman replied, the Indians are collecting fire wood like crazy!

The Montana Department of Revenues Liquor Control Division would like to notify wine consumers about a new law that eliminates the requirement to have a connoisseurs license to order wine directly from wineries. The law took effect October 1. The law creates a direct shipment endorsement for wineries that allows them to sell and ship up to 18 9-liter cases of wine a year to an individual for personal use. A list of wineries that are registered or licensed with the department and have direct shipment endorsements will soon be available at revenue.mt.gov. In the past, people ordering wine shipments from wineries were required to have a connoisseurs license, pay the taxes on the wine and file regular reports with the department. The new law does away with the connoisseurs license and moves those requirements to the wineries selling the wine. The advantage to Montana consumers is they no longer have to shoulder the administrative responsibility of a license, said Shauna Helfert, Liquor Control Division Administrator. Montana consumers can order and pay for the wine from any of Montanas 18 wineries, or from wineries around the country that are licensed or registered with the department and hold a direct shipment endorsement. The law, HB 402, was proposed by Rep. Chuck Hunter and passed during the 2013 Legislative Session. We wanted to take the burden off Montanans and provide an easier way for folks to access and enjoy the wine they like that they cant find locally, said Rep. Hunter. Lets say theyve traveled to the Napa Valley and found a favorite wine. Now, Montanans can order that wine conveniently once theyre home. The law also requires the common carrier to verify a recipients age and require a signature of a person 21 years of age or older on delivery. Other alcohol-related laws take effect on Tuesday. HB 524 removes the requirement for a retail licensee selling beer or wine for off-premise consumption to also sell groceries or sundries. And SB 120 increases from one to three the number of liquor licenses an individual may hold. If you have questions, please call toll free at (866) 859-2254, or in Helena at 444-6900, or visit the departments website at revenue.mt.gov.

Bobs face on the front page shows a look of shock and pain, but he was just fooling around for a brief moment and we caught him in the act! Nope, didnt hurt a bit, he said of his flu shot which he gets on an annual basis, as Vickie, Karla and Tracie of the Valley County Health Department encourage everyone to do.

Just kidding...
