Dear Friends and Fellow Animal Lovers,

I am pleased to announce that after a successful inaugural year, the Boulder Project will
continue to rescue dogs from Animal Control in Kingsville and fly them to the Humane
Society of Boulder Valley, which will help them locate wonderful forever homes. I
sincerely hope that you will continue to support this innovative program.

Last year, a total of 32 dogs were pulled from the pound or rescued during the Boulder
Project and 24 of these dogs were transferred to HSBV (attached, please find two
documents that describe the process and animals saved). Others found forever homes in
Texas.

This year, the Boulder Project is proud to partner with Tip of Tex K-9 Rescue
(www.tipoftexk9rescue.org). Tip of Tex K-9 Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization, and was
founded to help the large number of unwanted or abandoned homeless dogs in South
Texas. It is also a member of The Very Best Pet Network as well as being one of few no-
kill shelters or rescues in South Texas.

With Tip of Tex, the Boulder Project will continue to provide vaccination, medical
treatment, and transportation to homeless dogs in this community, giving them a chance
at a better life. All of the funds raised go directly to animal care and transportation with
no funds spent on marketing or overhead. The next transfer date is scheduled for October
3, 2009 and one dog has already been rescued and will be fostered until the transfer
(please see photo below).

Your donation is crucial to the operation of this program. Donations can be made
directly to me, via PayPal (labunski@aol.com), or via a check sent to:

Dear Friends;

Thank you to all who responded to the appeal last summer to help save dogs from the pound in Kingsville
by sending them on to forever homes in Boulder, CO. We have surpassed our original expectations and
the project was completed with 24 transfers which took place in the fall of 2008, the winter of 2008 and
the spring of 2009. We previously provided an update on the fall transfer but wanted to let you know how
the balance of the transfers went. The winter transfer of dogs to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley
took place on December 6, 2008. Although it was anticipated that 10 dogs would be able to make this
trip, only five dogs made the trip from Kingsville to Colorado and quickly found forever homes.

This transfer was complicated by an outbreak of Canine Distemper Virus in Kingsville. Thanks to
information from HSBV’s Dr. Lesli Groshong and a referral to Dr. Sandra Newbury, we were able to
safely transfer some dogs to Boulder. Sadly, three dogs that had been rescued from the pound for transfer
succumbed to the disease and had to be humanely euthanized but two others survived and were adopted in
Kingsville.

The spring shipment took place on March 21, 2009 and used the remainder of the funds that were raised
last year. Two dogs were pulled from the pound and adopted in Kingsville and a total of 10 dogs made
their way to HSBV and everyone was adopted in less than a week! The puppies were definitely a big hit
and the adults quickly found homes as well. The problem with distemper that impacted the winter
transfer did not affect the third group of dogs, although distemper continues to be a significant problem in
Kingsville.

We have already heard from four of the adoptees from the spring. Wiry is living in a home with two little
boys and enjoys his snuggles, learning tricks, and walking to the bus stop each day. Wendy is outfitted
with a sweater to protect her against the snow and has bonded with a boy who is also from Texas. Otto
got to ride the bus on his first day with his new family and enjoys taking them for walks. Blaze has
learned to walk up and down stairs and has been on a ski weekend to Vail! It sounds like they are all
doing well and the happiness they have bestowed on their new families would not have been possible
without your support.

In addition to financial support, there were a number of people who were instrumental in this rescue effort
and we gratefully acknowledge their contributions. We would like to thank our foster families for
supporting this effort. Judy Anthony & Mark Tews fostered dogs in both shipments, while Becky Huss,
Teresa Mayorga, and Chris Dunick fostered dogs in one shipment. Dr Amy Hamilton Hubert continued
to be an essential part of the rescue effort by providing the health certificates that are required in order for
the animals to fly to Denver. April Lopez and Monica Garza provided the required heartworm testing.
Gary Huss transported the dogs to the airport and used his shipping discount – without which the project
would not be financially possible. Finally, we appreciate the assistance of our new friends Caitlin Lepper
(adopted a dog from the fall shipment) and Michelle Tregoning for their assistance in getting our animal
crates back to Kingsville!

Finally, we would again like to express our thanks to everyone who supported this rescue effort. A total
of 32 dogs were pulled from the pound or rescued during this effort and 24 dogs were transferred to
HSBV and given a second chance due to your compassion and hard work. Thank you to all!
