NURSING POLICY

1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE 1.1. To meet international standards in health care services. 1.2. To fulfill Gulf Diagnostic Center Hospital ethical commitment to patient and community 1.3. To respect patients rights of Privacy and Confidentiality 2. POLICY STATEMENT 2.1. GDCH is committed to respect patients privacy and confidentiality in order to achieve high quality service and care 3. DEFINITIONS 3.1. Confidential information Is information learned or observed in the course of treatment including: 3.1.1. The nature of the patients illness, its cause and treatments 3.1.2. Everything the patient discloses to describe his ailments 3.1.3. Everything the physician learns from his/ her examination of the patient 3.1.4. The reaction of the patient, his/ her conduct in the hospital 3.1.5. The patient financial state, domestic life, any personal information 3.1.6. All records of any kind including all photos and videos accumulated during the course of treatment. 4. PROCEDURE AND RESPONSIBILITY 4.1. All GDCH staff shall take the necessary action to protect patients right of Privacy and Confidentiality throughout the course of treatment. 4.2. Privacy during History taking: 4.2.1. Speak in a low tone 4.2.2. If the patient is not in a single-bedded room and highly confidential subject is discussed, it is preferred to take the patient/family to a separate private area. 4.2.3. Draw the curtain if the patient is in a multi-bedded room. 4.2.4. If patient is in the consultation room the door should be kept closed. 4.3. During Examination (OPD-Treatment Room and/or Inpatient): 4.3.1. Curtain should be drawn. 4.3.2. Observe that door is always closed. 4.3.3. Persons who are not involved in the treatment of the patients should not be present, unless authorized by the patient. 4.3.4. Only the area of the body that is being examined to be exposed

4.3.5. Nurse should be present when doctors gender is opposite than the patients. 4.4. Laboratory Investigation: 4.4.1. A Separate area is allocated for the purpose of specimen collection. Only the technician concerned should be available while collecting specimens. 4.5. Imaging Technology: 4.5.1. Changing rooms with internal lock are available. 4.5.2. Only investigated area of the body should be exposed. Physician, Nurse, Imaging Technician 4.5.3. Nurse should be present when doctors gender is opposite than the patients. 4.6. During Discussion of Patients Condition: 4.6.1. Any discussion regarding patients care should not be done in public areas like corridors or in the presence of individuals that are not concerned. 4.7. During Operation: 4.7.1. Only area of the body to be operated on should be exposed. 4.8. Pharmacy: 4.8.1. Medicines to be given in a non-transparent bag 4.8.2. Instructions for the use of medicines should be given in a low voice observing privacy. 4.9. During Transports: 4.9.1. Patient should be escorted, if medically indicated. 4.9.2. Cover the patient properly during transportation. 4.9.3. Patients record should be kept with the escorting staff to prevent loss and mishandling. 4.10. Patients Record: 4.10.1. The medical record filing area is restricted to authorized staff only. 4.10.2. Patients Medical Record should be kept confidential. 4.10.3. Access to patients records is restricted to authorized hospital employees only. Patient records or clinical information of the patient should not be kept in an open area any where in the hospital, which is accessible to the public or unauthorized staff.

NURSING POLICY

4.11. Photos and Videos 4.11.1. Prior consent from patient/family needs to be taken when photographing/videotaping patient's and patient's body parts. 4.11.2. Consent has to mention the reason for the photograph/video i.e. educational/research/medical and the process of saving the images. 4.11.3.
