WHY DID GOD CREATED MAN?

Week 7 - Jacob and his twelve sons
EXERCISING FAITH
According to what we saw last week, God created man so that he might express Him and
exercise His dominion over every creature and over all the earth. This implies exalting the
Creators name in every place. Nonetheless, in Babel Nimrod attempted to do just the
opposite by building a tower whose top would reach the heavens in order to exalt mans
name instead of Gods name (Gen. chapter eleven, verse four).
This greatly saddened the Lord, who decided to confuse their language so that they
would be dispersed over the face of the earth and cease building the tower. After that, God
called Abraham (Acts chapter seven, verses two and three) and told him to go out of his
country, Ur of the Chaldeans, which was a land full of idolatry.
However, Abraham did not immediately take heed to Gods command. Rather, it was his
father, Terah, who brought him to Haran where he remained until his fathers death. Haran
was in Assyria, which was a region noted for its sinfulness.
After some time, God appeared to Abraham once again, saying: Get out of your
country, from your family and from your fathers house, to a land that I will show you. I will
make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a
blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all
the families of the earth shall be blessed (Gen. chapter twelve, verses one to three).
This time, Abraham took heed to Gods voice which from that time on led him
constantly, teaching him to exercise his faith that it might grow. At every stop, Abraham
would pitch a tent, build an altar and call on the name of the Lord. In this way, Abraham
restored the practice of calling on the name of the Lord.
Today, Abraham is known as the father of faith. However, when he left Haran his faith
was not yet so strong. As he learned to depend on God and follow Him, his faith grew little
by little.
These days, God is preparing His children to rule the coming world. For this purpose,
however, our faith needs to grow and be strengthened in the same way that the faith of
Abraham, the father of the nation of Israel, did: [Abraham] did not waver at the promise of
God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully
convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform (Rom. Chapter four,
verses twenty and twenty-one).
