How You Can Help
News Update
kotchadoingood!

We had a blessed time of learning and sharing last Sunday afternoon at our 5th
in a series of 6 Adult Teacher training meetings! Our own Karen Gunstream
taught the first hour on "Spiritual Formation" defined as "...the lifelong
transformation of the believer toward the love of God, the character of
Christ and the daily obedience to His Spirit's leading that takes place as God
draws her/him into greater loving intimacy with the Trinity." Dr. David Ralph,
our District Superintendent, taught the second hour on Holiness,
Sanctification and the lordship of Christ in our daily lives. The time just flew
by and we are thankful for Karen and Dr. Ralph for their time and teaching.
Both Karen and Dr. Ralph are very gifted teachers and everyone in
attendance experienced new spiritual insights.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

What is it about significant, anticipated events in our lives that make the little,
gloved hands on Mickey Mouse's smiling watch face move at an insufferably
slow pace leading up to the event, only to make up for it by seemingly
spinning at a blurring rate once the time arrives? That's where we find our-
selves as a church today. We've waited for our Father to bring just the right
person as our next Senior Pastor for what sometimes has felt like the full 40
years the nation of Israel spent in the desert! Finally, the time is upon us when
the Board will be able to reveal the specifics about the person whom we feel
confident our God has prepared to lead DFC through our next era of ministry,
and there doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to complete all of the
preparations!

We are so excited to bring this candidate to you with the strongest

recommendation we can possibly make! We are making every effort to
create several pathways to allow you to become familiar with the
candidate. The most important of these is the personal visit he will make for
the "Family Gathering" we'll have on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at 7:00
PM. This will be our opportunity to hear him speak from his heart about the
questions most on our minds regarding what we can anticipate with him as
our Senior Pastor.

Please allow me to highlight the other events taking place over the next
several days so you can put them on your calendar. This Sunday, July 19,
2009, we will officially reveal the candidate to you. A printed biography will
be provided, a moderated video presentation will be given following the AM
worship service, and a DVD will be handed out with video features on the
candidate.

We will also rekindle our prayer initiative during this time. We will have daily
devotional e-mails distributed Monday through Friday this coming week. And
there will be corporate prayer times in the sanctuary Monday and Tuesday at
6:30 PM, Wednesday at 6:00 PM, and Sunday, July 26, at 9:30 AM. We strongly
encourage you to maintain a spirit of prayer during this coming week for
clarity from our Father.

As I've already mentioned, Wednesday, July 22, will be your opportunity to

meet the candidate in person. We anticipate this being a wonderful time of
fellowship as we gather as a family to hear what our Father has placed on this
man's heart. Questions will be collected this Sunday, July 19, and these will be
consolidated into the commonly asked questions. We'll provide these
questions to the candidate in advance so he has opportunity to carefully
consider them and bring us thoughtful responses on Wednesday evening.

Finally, Sunday, July 26, 2009, during the AM worship service, we will call an
official church meeting and vote by ballot on whether to extend the call to
the candidate to be our next Senior Pastor. The ballots will be tallied during
the service and the results will be announced at the conclusion of the
service. The Manual of the Church of the Nazarene does not make provision
for absentee voting in the matter of calling a Senior Pastor, so it will be
necessary to be in attendance to have your vote counted on this issue.

It is our prayer that you are looking forward to these days with joyful hope, as
we are. We are so encouraged by the way our Lord has shown Himself in this
whole process. We also pray these months leading up to this time have been
an opportunity seized for each of us to grow so much more intimate in our
personal relationship with Him. We look forward to great days ahead sharing
the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Serving Him Alongside of You,

Vini Giannatala

An Invitation for You!

The Children’s Department at DFC would like to invite our church family to a fun
filled evening at Pirate’s Cove on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 6:45 PM. Pirate’s Cove,
located at 1225 W. Belleview Avenue, is an outdoor aquatic facility that offers a
leisure pool with a large play structure, a 25-meter, 6-lane pool, a 35-foot slide
tower with three slides, a lazy river, an area where children can build sand castles,
and a snack shack! The cost for this event is $5/person or $25/immediate family.

This DFC Water Night at Pirate’s Cove has been purposefully scheduled as a kickoff
to Crocodile Dock Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School will begin on
Monday, July 27 and run through Friday, July 31 at DFC. VBS activities will begin at
6:00 PM and end at 8:30 PM. The registration deadline is Friday, July 24 (the same
day as Pirate’s Cove) and the cost for VBS is $5 per child. Registration can take
place online (www.groupvbs.com/webtoybox/myvbs/dfc2009) at your
convenience or in person at the registration table in the Adventure Zone on
Sunday morning.

The Children’s Department is thankful for all who have offered to volunteer during
this outreach opportunity. These volunteers are sure to be a blessing to the many
children who will be participating in this bayou adventure. Each child will surely
gain a deeper understanding of the following truths: God is with us, God is
powerful, God does what He says he will do, God gives us life and God cares for
us.

If you have further questions about

Pirate’s Cove or Crocodile Dock
Vacation Bible School, please
contact Gwenda at
gwendar@denverfirstchurch.com
in the Children’s office. Gwenda will
be happy to answer your questions.

Sincerely,
Susan Foster
